This is a must do if you're in Perth.
We did the tunnel tour, and it was worth the cost.
Exciting 20m climb down a ladder into the tunnel
Walk around the tunnel with the guide providing many interesting facts.
Then into a canoe for a paddle of the water filled part of the tunnel again with our guide who provided great information.
If you are tall your back will get a workout, you are at 90 degrees for walking part.
Boat part u will stay dry.
You are given overall, helmet and boots so everything is protected.
Great fun totally enjoyed it. Pity our time did not permit for so above ground exploring.
Definitely book in advance, limited paid parking is available.

We did the one and a half hour tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were highly entertained by Glenn, who had great knowledge and a very good line in puns!!
We would highly recommend.

It was a great tour.
We were escorted by a gentleman whom I have forgotten the name of - I think Kevin?
We learnt a lot.
The only thing worth less stars is the cafe
$8 for a Lipton iced tea and $5 a can of lemonade is a tad crazy.
Looked at the cheesy mite rolls - but $10 for one was insane.
Slightly lowering would have had more customers I’m sure.

Great visit, very interesting and a good day out when coupled with a walk around Fremantle. We did the true crime tour led by Nathan who was very knowledgeable with loads of good, sometime funny, local stories.
Book tickets in advance.

The Fremantle Prison is a well-preserved artifact from the era when Britain was populating Australia with convicts - and long after. It wasn't closed until the 1990s. It was so crucial to the founding of Fremantle, it is kind of a don't-miss for anyone interested in the city's past.
Several different tours are offered, and buying tickets in advance is recommended in peak season (when we were there). We chose Convict Prison, which turned out to be mostly stories about individual prisoners of the convict era. The guide's English was hard to understand so the tour was not particularly helpful, but we were glad to see the inside of the facility.
We learned much more walking through the excellent museums and wished we had planned more time for them. Buying a tour was necessary to get into the prison itself.

From the Market we walked up to Fremantle Prison and took the 1030 tour. It was originally home to the prisoners delivered to Australia by England starting in the mid-1800’s. Later it became a maximum-security prison for men, women, and some children. The prison had a maximum capacity of 1000 prisoners and was used until 1991. Several different tours are available every day.

We went on the tunnel tour with Debbie as our guide and everything was fantastic. This was a great activity to do in Fremantle. Debbie made the experience extra memorable with her enthusiasm.

We went on the torchlight tour of the prison. The tour started at 19.45 and finished about 21.00 or thereabouts. You are given a torch…and yes, you need it! Our guide, Nathan, was informative, knowledgeable and with a good sense of humour. He clearly enjoys his job and this was conveyed to our party quite openly. We were able to ask him a wide array of questions and he wasn’t flawed by any of them.
We were a large group by all accounts, yet still able to get into a circle or a triangle when the need arose! The tour takes you across the quad, through all of the four divisions (wings) of the prison, the exercise yard, the solitary confinement bay, the gallows and finally the mortuary. Really really interesting.
Nathan touched on some of the more famous residents and their cases from the years, but I imagine that you would receive more detailed info on them during the day time tours? That said, the tour was interesting and informative and such an amazing piece of history right there on the doorstep. Also amazing to believe that…. 1 in 5 WA residents (born and bred) are descended from residents of the prison.!
Great tour and thank you Nathan.

This was a thoroughly interesting visit to a former colonial/convict prison in Western Australia. It was a typically hot summer day, and you can only imagine the conditions the inmates had to endure. There are 3 separate tours including the tunnels but we only had time to do the convict tour, which was expected to last 75 minutes but was nearer 90 by the end. Our guide was ex-pat Sarah and she was fine but we had 2 concerns ... she started the tour with an apology that she had bad breath due to a previous meal. An inauspicious and unglamorous start. She was constantly losing her train of thought during her speeches but thus wasn't her fault. Other staff and late joiners kept interrupting her and the volume of the tour translator device kept putting her off. She was a trouper though, and made light of it and successfully completed her pitch. The one thing I didn't like however (and some may think I'm being over sensitive) is her recanting of a famous escape by several Irish 'freedom fighters'. They are the pre-cursor to the IRA and as several of us were ex Military and experienced first hand the deaths of close friends and relatives, I didn't feel it was necessary to glorify their cause. Referring to them as Irish, would have been sufficient. Other than that, a decent tour and I recommend a visit.

We had a tour with Ken about the prisoners. One story he told us was about a prisoner who was released and as an elderly man he sat outside the prison daily. A guard befriended him, firstly with a daily sandwich. He went on to rape their 3 daughters after being left to baby sit ( madness) do you know the name of that prisoner so I could research please. Thank you.

Hi, i’m planning on doing the torchlight tour for my sixteenth birthday with 5 other friends just wondering how early we should get there before the tour starts?
Đã viết vào 15 tháng 8, 2022
10-15 minutes should be ample, but if you're earlier there's a couple of things to have a look at pre-tour.

Use the free CAT bus. Get off near the old market and it’s a 10 minute walk.

Can you please describe the 3 available tours so that we can decide on which to book.
Thank you

Hi t16mytm, access to the museum displays and exhibitions at the Prison entry is free of charge. To see inside the buildings and grounds you have several tours to choose from. Adult entry for one Prison Tour (Convict Prison, Behind Bars or True Crime tours) is $22AU. You can do two of these tours for $32AU or all three for $42AU. The Tunnels Tour underneath the Prison is $65AU and the Torchlight Tour on Wednesdays and Fridays is $28AU. Concession, child and family pricing is also available. Hi there. I am interested in doing the Tunnels & Prison Tour Package on a Sunday. May I seek advice on what time would be good for me to start the tour as I would like to plan my schedule to include visiting the Freo weekend market.
Thank you in advance!
Đã viết vào 24 tháng 10, 2018
Tunnels Tours have a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes with Prison Tours having a duration of 1 hour 15 minutes. There are a multitude of options available, depending on which of the Prison Tours you would like to do - Convict Prison, Behind Bars or True Crime'. For the Tunnels we would suggest you do either the 9.00am or 9.45am timeslot to provide you with an early/mid afternoon finish at the Prison once you have completed your chosen Prison Tour.We would recommend you contact us by phone to make your booking and we can provide you with your options. The markets are a very short walk from the Prison and are open until 5pm on the weekend.

We booked when we got there. There are about 4 different types of tour, so you may wish to look if there is anything on their website so you can time your visit accordingly. We just turned up and took the first available tour. It was excellent.
