Looking to do a backpacking trip to Saddlebag lake in July. I’m not even sure if this will be possible with the amount of snow there has been this year. My question is about backpacking at 10,000ft. From what I’ve read about this trail, it’s fairly flat, so that will makes things easier. We live at sea level, so it will be quite a change to go from that to 10,000ft. Any tips or suggestions or concerns about this? We went on our first backpacking trip in March in Yosemite at Hetch Hetchy. The trails highest point was 4,500ft.

Hi, thanks for all the info. My friend and I are planning to visit Inyo National Forest around second week of October for up to 10 days. We would particularly like to see autumn color, lake and mountain scenery. We will be driving from LA via 395 all the way to Yosemite and loop back via 41, 180, and 198/Visalia to King's canyon and Sequia Nat parks. We would like explore Bishop, Mono lake, june lake, mammoth basin, Big Pine, Rock Creek, Bristle Cone, And the three nat parks. We will most likely skip Mt Whitney unless there are easier/moderate hikes. We will probably stay 2 nights in King's canyon & Sequia, 2 nights in Yosemite and a couple nights around Bishop or one of the lakes. I would appreciate any input on the following: 1. Other places that we should see? 2. Where and how many days would you recommend us to stay if we want to explore the above areas in Inyo National forests, Yosemite, Sequia and King's canyon (most scenic and less driving back and forth) 3. Will there still be autumn color around mid October? 4. Will 2 nights in Yosemite and 2 nights in Sequia/King's canyon, 3 nights in Bishop or one of the lakes be enough to explore the main areas? Likely I will be hiking Mt. Whitney in june 2016. What is the weather likely to be in the end of june? Still a little bit of snow, will it be a trouble? Temperatures, shorts, long trousers, jacket, what to wear? It's going to be a one day hike.

Where is the nearest airport and how do you get to this region? How do we get there using public transport? Are there public facilities available near the forest and how do you get to the hot springs?
