Awful treatment to the elephants that were chained up on a very short lead and in complete distress and swaying side to side, absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting.
The waterfall was natural and beautiful but ruined by the shocking treatment of the poor elephants

This was recommended by our hotel staff as a beautiful natural location where you could walk & enjoy. On arrival, you pay a small fee to enter the area which comes with a plastic bottle of water. There is a cafe set up, and public toilets. Be warned, these toilets were the most disgusting sewage smelling & dirty toilets I have ever had to use, ever!
It is a very short walk to the waterfall which because of little rain, it was not at its best.
We had thought we could walk further up, along side the waterfall but the path was not available, it just kind of disappeared.
What shocked me was the amount of plastic water bottles everywhere & cigarette butts, it was like a dumping ground of rubbish - Mother Nature fighting with plastic pollution.
There were lots of friendly smiling staff around, but no one seemed to care.
And obviously many visitors don't care either.
What a disappointment, beauty was not winning in this environment.
I wish I had taken some photos but only in hindsight did I realize I should have because seeing is believing, photographing rubbish was not on my mind at the time.

The waterfall was good but trip completely ruined by the disgraceful mistreatment of the elephants kept in the entrance car park.
The elephants were kept in tiny enclosures with limited ability to move around due to being chained up and having large metal chairs attached to their backs at all times ready for tourists to ride them.
These elephants displayed all signs of feeling anxious, distressed and sad such as the constant swaying of their ears and heads and droopy, watering eyes.
The worst part of all was that the owners showed no concern at all for these poor animals and tourists were still riding them despite witnessing the poor conditions they are kept in.
Please if you visit this waterfall do not support this part by paying to feed and ride the elephants. The use of elephants to make money in this way is very cruel and was totally heartbreaking to see.
There are many ethical sanctities you can visit in Thailand as-well as opportunities to watch elephants in their natural habitats in which they should be kept. This is NOT needed and must be stopped.

The waterfall and jungle weren’t important in comparison to the elephants they had chained up in the parking lot. It was so sad to see. So crazy this is still happening.

The waterfall is nice but not worth the effort to be honest. We were early but when you are not you need to be in a big line to make your picture..

Honestly one of the worst things ever, what you don’t read is the trek to get to the top, you have to climb a mountain basically and all the way it’s no paths or no steps, it’s all climbing rocks and basically tree’s! It took an hour to get to the top and then the view was so basic. To get down you have to basically go on your hands and knees. Seriously not worth all the hype.

Can we visit the waterfall with a 1 year old baby ? Is it safe enough to walk with her on our back?

Yes it is safe if you just stay next to the waterfall and do not go deep to the forest.

Is the waterfall active and worth to see in February since it is the dry season?

Hi there, yes the water fall should still be OK in February... so certainly worth going to see.... Take mosquito repellent with you and good walking shoes! It's a bit of a hike!
Apparently now it's way down at the end of July~

can v drive our own car hear the park, then walk up by ourselves instead of the tour or the elephant?
how long will it take for the walk?

Hello Charmaine.
You park as you enter the Safari Park area, (ignore parking signs driving up the road) It's a good kilometer from the main road or more before the parking area which is to the right .... it's free.
Now you have two options to get to the waterfall area.
1. Walk pass the Safari park area and there are trucks to drive you most of the way up, 100 baht per person. When they drop you off you'll see a lot of people swimming, in the pool area, but get on the path (left and up) and keep climbing or you'll miss the best view of the water falls. It was not well sign posted last time I went up.
Do wear good non slip shoes as it can be slippery on the rocks. also mosquito repellent might be a good idea, perhaps some water too, although you can buy on the way up.
2. You can walk all the way up, but it's long hard grind! Which takes 45 mins to an hour to get up.
At the end of the paved road you'll see two entrances , keep to the left.
If you use the right side, they charge you 50 baht I think, but that is really for the gardens, although you can still reach the falls that way.
Earlyish in the morning say 9 or 10 am it should be less people and a bit cooler.
It's worth the effort which ever way you go... coming down is easier!
The Safari part and elephants are separate!
Can I try cliff jumping at this waterfall?

Hi, Has anyone experienced problems with dogs near the waterfall?? This seems to be the same waterfall where Paul Nicholls Eastenders actor was surrounded and attacked by 15 dogs and lay bleeding in a rock pool for 3 days. Im very worried about this story. I would love to visit the waterfall but am worried, as I am a lady on my own. Can anyone please reassure me! Thanks

That was a different waterfall that Paul Nicholls fell, one that few people go too. I don't remember hearing that he was attacked by 15 dogs.... that sounds like fake news to me!
Na Muang falls, (both of them 1 and 2 ) are usually very crowded and it would be highly unlikely anyone would get lost there or get attacked by dogs, unless going up areas which are sign posted as no go areas.(up beyond the main falls)
I go to these falls at least two or three times a year, I can't say that I've seen dogs.
Do wear good non slip shoes, if you decide to go as it can be slippery on wet rocks.

Did you ever consider how cruelly the elephants are treated when they are trained to do safaris? They suffer terrible pain (many severe beatings) and lose their liberty so people can have a bit of fun on vacation.

How much is the elephant trekking by the waterfall per person? and what does that price include?
Thank you in advance

I would like to spend the day at one of the waterfalls on koh samui. Is it possible to arrange just transport, without being part of a tour.
