54 Traditions Gallery is a must see whilst staying in Hanoi. The collection is rich with history & Nhung is extremely professional & knowledgeable.

54 Traditions is fabulous. they have museum quality pieces from all 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. The artifacts are displayed beautifully and the staff are really knowledgeable. They moved to 44b Hang Bun just recently.

Skip all Hanoi's other museums and come here instead.
You'll learn more about Vietnamese culture and the particularities of its 53 minority people here than anywhere else.
I'd spent two weeks traveling through Vietnam and coming here opened my eyes and mind to a much broader Vietnamese picture. In fact, it set the scene for a future trip.
I also enjoy collecting antiques and pieces of art on my travels and this gallery does a great job of describing each piece's unique story with well-researched and well-written documentation.
This place is a wonderfully understated gem that few people know about.
Try and pop by when Nhung T Nguyen, the gallery's founder, is there.
You'll be learning from the master!

Loved this gallery - a fantastic collection of artefacts from all over Vietnam. Dr Mark Rappaport is extremely knowledgeable and the team provide detailed information about your purchases by email when you get home. I bought a water puppet duck - I smile every time I look at it or pick it up... I also have a wooden block print - new print from old block - very affordable souvenirs of a great trip to Vietnam. There's something for everybody!

This is such an amazing place! Lovely just to wander around and look at. Everything is meticulously labelled, with dates and information. I wanted to buy something, but it was a bit beyond my budget so the people there had no problem at all with me photographing things. Incredible textiles and printing blocks amongst other treasures. Well worth a visit.

If you are in Hanoi visiting this gallery/museum is a must. It is a collection like you will see no where else in this city-- maybe all of Vietnam. A stalwart New Yorker, Dr. Rappoport is the proprietor, collector, gatherer, historian, cultural maven and all around great guy. He has on display authentic (some very very old) textiles, carvings, engravings, prints, wall hangings, clothing, etc. and the knows the story behind each and every item. If you're lucky you can get recruited to his eyeglass distribution program up north-- a great deed and a great way to meet tribal artisans.

This is an excellent gallery, displaying hundreds of objects, reflecting many Vietnamese cultures. We were taken on an interesting tour of the gallery and then fortuitously, the owner, Mark Rapoport arrived and escorted us to revisit the items we particularly liked, detailing their composition and purpose, as well as discussing many other matters in an engaging and personable manner. We were able to find a number of items that we loved and could afford, and these were wrapped carefully, and fact sheets were provided. This is a perfect place to look for a quality memento of a visit to Hanoi.

Visited with my husband and another couple who have traveled extensively. This shop is filled with ethnic items - many old (antique or ancient), some new, all interesting. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable about everything.

Mark and his staff take great care of their visitors to this rather unique place. I have visited three times now and always find something new that catches my eye and my heart that I have to take home. If you have any interest at all in the culture and costumes of the ethnic minorities of South East Asia in general, and of Vietnam in particular, you really must visit here; even if you don't yet, you will have by the time you leave this gem of a gallery.
