I spend about 3 hours at this museum today in the furthest outreaches of D9. Thankfully I was already in D9 at Grand Park, shortening the trip considerably if i had been coming from D1.
I read the reviews before going and I am glad I ignored the negative ones, because I actually felt this was truly a special experience. The museum is in two parts: one is the huge gallery of Ao Dai, the second is a more interactive experience and together it is quite special. In the first part I especially loved the Ao Dai from the 1960s to 2000s and also how their designs embraced wider cultural movements.
The second interactive part is about a very special element of the museum which is a positive reflection on Vietnamese culture. Especially how the youth embrace it. There were over a hundred mainly young (late teens to late 20s) boys and girls in small groups all dressed up in Ao Dai and other traditional clothes doing their own photo shoots, no doubt taking them for the upcoming Tet festival for family and social media.
I just love how the museum has created a mini Village with many styles of buildings and bridges around a lake and it is all geared towards visitors taking their own photos. I was the only western visitor that I could spot today, everyone else was local. You can bring your own or hire a Ao Dai and many different accessories for your own shoot. This is brilliant. Everyone looked happy and excited to be taking part. I actually spotted the hire centre and saw clothes being freshly steamed after being cleaned.
For someone who places a great deal of emphasis on celebrating one’s own culture and not letting it be swamped and erased by any form of cultural imperialism, seeing this and the incredible enthusiasm of everyone, truly made me happy.
Not sure what tour groups charge, but the entry fee was only 50,000 VND, about the price of a coffee. Do visit, you will be happily surprised.

The place is very boring, most people come here for photos. Seems like they don't take care of the place. I wanted to rent the Ao Dai but I felt gross when I came choose the pants for the Ao dai. They all looked dirty, I don't think they washed them at all. The lady at the rental place was not helpful, she just tried to get you rent the clothes.
I didn't learn any useful information about the history of Ao Dai, just random stuff there. The exhibition room smell bad.
No recommend this place.

you can observe some ao dai exhibits on bitexco financial tower observation deck
but if you would like to see the full display in a countryside setting, then ao dai museum is the place to go. it is about 60 min outside of hcmc, or 250,000-300,000 VND by Grab ride. it will be much cheaper to come by bus but it will take 90 min or more for the ride.
proper visit on site will take about 60-90 min.
entry fee is 50,000 VND

Location: about 30-45 min Grab ride from the city. In the middle of nowhere. Grab driver relied on GPS the whole time. Signage near the place is very small.
Exhibits: small collection of Ao Dai over the years. Not well maintained. Ao Dai rental is overrated. The selection is plain and boring. Buildings on the grounds are few. Pond in the middle breeds mosquitoes. I did get bitten!
I took my time walking around and spent an hour there. If quick, about 20 min is enough.
To get back into town, you need to walk about 700m out to the main road and cross over to the bus stop. Take bus 88 for VND6000 to go all the way to Ben Thanh bus terminal. There are absolutely no other transport options available as the place is really remote. The ticket counter staff drove me out to the bus stop on her motorbike, which I really appreciated!

Visited this museum yesterday - was a delightful way to spend an hr or so away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Something that surprised me was the size of the estate - the building that displays all the ao dai is an airy barn with both Vietnamese & english descriptions, and is amongst a beautiful garden/park setting. Visitors are able to hire ao dai and take photos amongst the gardens - very picturesque with a lake, small boats, small bridges... lots of young people around taking beautiful photos. A little run down but still plenty of rustic charm.
Getting there way easy enough - we took a grab car which was around $300,000 VND from Sofitel Hotel and was driven up to the gate of the museum. On the way back we felt a little more adventurous and took the bus back - was a little tricky as no proper bus stop but with some directions from the staff from the museum we were able to stand in the right place (at the t-intersection on the main road/turn off for the museum) and flag down a bus (no. 88). Much cheaper at $6,000 VND a ticket back to HCMC and great experience seeing local life on a bus.

ツアーではあまり訪れないのか、あまり人がおらずゆっくり楽しめました。さまざまな時代のアオザイが見れるのはもちろんのこと、敷地も公園のように整備されており、時間をとってのんびり過ごすのがおすすめです^^

Ao Dai Museum
Grabが捕まるまで待った方が良さそうです。

I had read just a couple of reviews about this Ao Dai museum located about 23 kms outside Saigon in Long Phuoc District 9. It truly is worth a visit and can be reached by local means using the No. 88 bus departing from Ben Thanh Bus Station (NOT Ben Thanh Market). Actually we went to the market instead of the bus station (they are near but not that near) & nearly gave up but happened to see a No 88 & waved it down & it stopped (well, slowed down) & we hopped on. For 6,000 VND we travelled 23 kms on a journey of 1.1/2 hours through not very exciting districts until crossing the last bridge to reach lush countryside. The Museum really is lovely and very peaceful. We had called earlier to ask for an English-speaking guide. The tour, at a gentle pace, lasted just over an hour, then we wandered on our own, enjoying the lake and gardens. Miss France arrived for a photoshoot so the venue wasn't as unknown as it first seemed. The "stop" for the No. 88 is on the "main" road about 300 metres from the Museum which is located up a small dirt road. Buses are frequent around every 12 mins. Enjoy!

Such a pity this was almost an hour out of the city. Very disappointing as we realised after a long drive it was closed. Only way is via a tour. A strange location (district 9) and luckily our Grab driver hung around, we were out in the countryside and would have struggled to get back.
