Oldest Buddhist temple in Phnom Penh. It is worth visit exploring all buildings where buddhist monks are staying.

This is a very interesting Temple. It is one of the original monasteries in Phnom Penh and built in 1422. It is a location where Buddhist Monks receive their training. The buildings are interesting to look and is definitely worth walking through. It will take you between 30-60 minutes to see the whole place (depending on in the Temple is open)

…but the ones here seemed semi-domesticated at least, probably kept as pets by the monks? Anyway, other than this is a lovely temple complex with stunning stupas, buildings and statues wherever you look. Well worth visiting and easy to find.

Een tempel met veel gouden beelden, verschillende beelden van verschillende geloven. Leuk alternatief voor de zilveren pagode en het paleis welke gesloten waren. Er is 1 gebouw open waar 3 boedistische monniken aanwezig waren. 1 van hen kwam even een praatje met ons maken.

We had a short time visiting this place in the afternoon. This place was so great for buddhist monks.

Phnom Penh is full of Buddhist temples throughout the city and Wat Ounalom is one of the biggest in the city centre. The interior of the temple is accessible only at certain hours of the day but the area is worth a visit. It's full of colour.

Wat Ounalom, one of the five original Pagodas in Phnom Penh, dating back to the early 1400’s. Nowadays, the HQ for Cambodian Buddhism where monks receive their training. The Khmer Rouge Regime, 1975/79, attempted to destroy everything Buddhist & murdered the patriarch, Huot Tat, but with dedication much that was damaged has been restored. I want to say that, with so much history in this place, my presentation here is but an overview which I hope will whet the appetite, for in-depth research, for those who wish to learn more about Wat Ounalom’s 600 years existence.

As I leave, I can see the statue of two warriors across the street, on Sisowath Quay, where I will turn left for the pleasant walk along the riverfront.

Gegenüber vom River liegt diese kleine Tempelanlage und ist kaum besucht. Außen ist sie wirklich sehr schön und gepflegt. Leider waren alle Tempel verschlossen. Dennoch lohnt sich ein Besuch durch die Außenanlage.
