If you be there at praying time,women should leave the mosque but men can stay and visit the Hall and that is not fair

Hagia Sophia is an absolutely beautiful building with amazing architecture. The only problem is that they STEAL SHOES in a Holy Place is very sad. Spoils the whole tour. The Blue Mosque allows you to open your shoes and carry them with you

Went after 2130, no queues, peaceful beautiful mosque, glad I got to see it without the hoards of tourists and constant cameras that follow......

Hagia Sophia is an amazing piece of architecture. Beautifully constructed and huge. The queues were long but moved very quickly. Ladies need to wear a head covering.

Bezoek aan de Aya Sofia was indrukwekkend. Wel lange rijen en lang wachten, maar zeer de moeite waard. Goed te combineren met de blauwe moskee.

We toured this Mosque and it’s grounds. We weren’t disappointed. The attention to detail that it took to build and maintain this beautiful place is commendable. I’m an American, compared to Turkey, the USA is a baby country.
I’ll remind non religious people, that this is a house of worship, on sacred grounds, we are guests here. My travel companions and I were careful to respect these grounds. The number of tourists who obviously paid to vacation in Turkey, only to disregard the country’s customs is shameful.

I finally got inside after a long queue of waiting , but it was the most beautiful experience of them at all I didn't want to get out it was a holy place .

We used to be able to go to the 2nd floor when it was a museum and we could see so many more .

I have booked a holiday to Istanbul in October and want to visit the Hagia Sophia Mosque . I have a big interest in Viking history and one of my main reasons for my visit was to see the Viking runes carved into marble parapets on the 2nd level , however since booking the holiday I’ve read that the 2nd level is closed off to the public . Is this true and is there no way I will be able to go up and see the carved runes for myself ?

I visited Hagia Sophia in December 2023 and the upper level was closed to the public. I know the place you are referring to and you cannot get to it. It may be worth asking an official guide who does tours of the Mosque - sometimes those guides have access to areas that the general public do not. The conversion to a Mosque has made the visit significantly less rewarding than when it was a museum, as public access areas are very limited. Still worth a look though as long as you get there half an hour or so before opening - less queuing.

You cannot take a flight from Antalya to Sogut . You need to take a ferry from Istanbul to Yalova and from there a car or other land transport to Sogut . You can take a bus or other public transport to Bursa and sleep over and travel to Sogut from

Planning to visit in October and have following questions:
1) can buy tickets online prior visiting, if not, what time does office open? How much is per person, do they accept cash/credit cards?
2)is it open for visitors in the late afternoon, if so, what is time?
3) is a small bagpack allowed?
4) Prayer hours?
5) what time is open?

Haggis Sophia is free , there is no charge to enter . Make sure you are properly dressed though … they do have coverings in case you forget . You can also take pictures .

What is an updated estimate on wait times to enter the Hagia Sophia now that it's a Mosque? We will be visiting in October

Hello, In general, I suggest you not to choose Saturday, Sunday and Friday to visit this place, and this place will also be crowded during prayer times.

Hi, I stayed at the Cheers vintage hostel, less than 1mn from the Blue mosque and Ayasofia, and all the others attractions and cafes/restaurants. This hostel has private rooms as well as dorms. It’s super clean, is facing the Bosphorus and is very friendly.

Здравствуйте! Будем в Стамбуле с 26 августа по 3 сентября - очень хотели попасть в Св.Софию! В связи с этим буду очень благодарна за ответы:
1. Я знаю, что теперь это мечеть, но, кажется, она все еще открыта для туристов?
2. Главный вопрос - открыта ли она уже для посещения? (гугл-карты пишут "временно закрыто" - напугались :( )
3. И, в связи со статусом мечети - какие ограничения по часам посещения? (про маски-перчатки-юбки понятно)
4. В отзывах читала, что оригинальные фрески теперь скрыты все время, а не только во время служений - правда ли это??

1. Открыта для туристов, вход бесплатный
2. Она открыта, но на ремонте, внутри стоят леса часть мечеть загорожена
3. Если вы девушка,вас даже как туристку не пустят в основную часть, потому что мечеть.
4. Да фрески скрыты все время, во всех частях мечеть, даже не ремонтируемой.
