Site très sympa, vue imprenable sur toute la ville. Panneaux à tous les points cardinaux avec les endroits clés. Musée sympa avec de belles pièces.

Nice place to visit although too expensive for what it is and lots of garbage on the site. Also a little bit of discrimination. Locals can enter for free and tourists have to pay.

Medio Oriente è sinonimo di siti archeologici spettacolari, e nel cuore della modernissima e controversa Amman si trova uno dei parchi archeologici più suggestivi della Giordania. Nonostante non sia così grande come Jerash, ospita comunque resti conservati in maniera esemplare come il Tempio di Ercole, il tutto con una vista mozzafiato sulla città e l'antico Teatro Romano. Da qui si respira un'atmosfera straordinaria e ogni volta che ci vado è come sentirmi a casa. Bellissimo anche il Museo Archeologico e i resti Omayyadi dall'altro lato della collina. Assolutamente da non perdere, anche solo per ammirare la vita frenetica della metropoli dall'alto e il fascino delle città mediorientali con le loro case una sopra l'altra!

This is worthwhile to visit in conjunction with Jerash. I would recommend to visit with a guide to get the most out of it. The museum on site is especially worth a wander around.

Incontournable à Amman. Après une visite du Forum situé en contrebas, montez à pied jusqu'à la citadelle (15min), puis visitez ce superbe site empli d'histoire. Au coucher du soleil c'est fabuleux.

How much of time would one require to see the major attractions at the Citadel and what are they please.
Also what time due they close in winter.
Finally can you get a taxi back to the city centre / Hotel soon after sunset,

The area is not so large that one can’t see everything in a three hour visit. There is an excellent, small museum that should not be missed. It should not be a problem getting a taxi back to city center. Think they close around 4 in the winter because of earlier darkness.

For the citizen of the arab league, they do pay like jordanians. 250 fils or 25 piasters. For foriegners non jordanians 3 Jds.

Mejor en un taxi sobre todo si te encuentras alojado en un hotel que no esté en el casco viejo de Amán. Una vez que estés en la Ciudadela puedes bajar andando al casco antiguo de Amán, para visitar el teatro romano, el odeon y el ninfeo de las ninfas. Espero que te haya podido ayudar y bienvenido a Jordania. Abdul.

What would it cost , approximately , if I were to use a cab to do a free an easy tour from any of the centrally located hotels? Would it be cheaper than guides n tour packages?

A taxi to the citadel should cost no more than 4-5 JOD. For touring from there I would recommend looking at Lonely Planets excellent self-guided tour of Amman which is available freely (Links are not allowed here).
I used it myself and found it covered all the major landmarks. It's definitely cheaper than using a guide/tour package.

La ciudadela de Amman, tambien conocida como la Acropolis. Es uno de lugares mas antiguos encontrados por todo Jordania, se data a la epoca Neolitica, 5500 a.C, Calcolitica 4500 a.C, Edad de Bronce 3300 a.D y la Edad de Hierro 1200 a.C, cuando lo habotaron los ammonitas y se llamaba Rabat Ammon y mas tarde Filadelfia cuando fue conquistada de los persas por las tropas de Alejandro El Magno apartir del 332 a.C.
