Un grande lago, circondato da panorami brulli, con alcune spiagge bianche di sale, che migliorano un pò andando verso nord. Una porzione significativa del lago, parte giordana, è "invasa" dall'attività delle saline dell'industria di estrazione del potassio, deturpando non poco il paesaggio. L'accesso al lago ed all'esperienza balneare in tali acque non può avvenire che all'interno di un resort con spiaggia oppure di uno stabilimento balneare. Questo in parte per l'inopportunità di spogliarsi in luogo pubblico (in Giordania) ma, soprattutto, perché è necessario, dopo una breve balneazione, rimuovere il sale dalla cute con una doccia, ad evitare problemi (comunque è assolutamente pericoloso il contatto dell'acqua del Mar Morto con gli occhi ma anche le labbra non ne ricavano certo vantaggio). Peraltro, il Mar Morto sta andando verso la scomparsa: a salvarne l'esistenza c'é il progetto di canalizzare e far giungere acqua dal Mar Rosso o dal Mediterraneo (ricavando anche energia idroelettrica perché si sfrutterebbe il "salto" di 400metri tra il livello del mare e la depressione dove si trova il Mar Morto)

Well worth the experience. My recommendation would be to stay in one of the hotels with access to the sea. They have all the facilities such as fresh water shower which is a must after your Dead Sea bathe and mud bath.

There is a bit to see here so do dedicated a couple of hours, or even longer if you want a sit down meal. Probably don't need yo stay yhe night.

This visit was to the Jordanian shore around 30 years since we went to the Israeli side. At that time we felt that the Dead Sea was a bleakly beautiful landscape where we saw shepherds guarding flocks, an ibex, rock hyrax in the oasis of Ein Gedi, the fortress of Masada as well as taking a float in the sea.
On the Jordanian side in 2023, apart from a very pleasant stay in a good hotel, the abiding memories are of dusty roads, ugly potash extraction plants and a rapidly receding shoreline.
Perhaps the Israeli side has seen similar degradation in the intervening decades but, given the choice it may be preferable to visit Israel for your Dead Sea experience.
Overall it’s a unique and vulnerable environment that’s worth a trip.

I love it coz despite not know how to swim I could easily float. The mud pack was fun too coz after clean up your skin feels very smooth.

Visited salt beach which is open to the public and seems to be where everyone goes if not staying in a hotel ,

I have a healthy respect for water not being a great swimmer but trust me sit down, lay on your back, try to relax and watch yourself float and soak up all the goodness. Just don't freak out and get water in your eye, not fun, I got a tiny splash and had to get out ASAP. Use the mud, be sure to go in first then apply the mud, let it dry a bit and then rinse off in the sea. Your skin will be the softest you have ever felt. Be sure to rinse off once you get out else it starts to burn.

Di ritorno da Petra ci siamo fermati al Marriot x riposarci il primo pomeriggio abbiamo fatto un escursione a Betania , ci siamo concessi un bagno nella spiaggia dell hotel dove il sale viete tolto per proteggere il turista (??)!) noi cercavamo le spiagge bianche di sale, quindi oggi con L aiuti di Hammath autista giovane molto simpatico consigliatoci dai locali alla reception ci siamo avventurarti verso sud e dopo una ventina di minuti siamo arrivati alla CRYSTAL BEACH … bellissima .. senza parole bianca il sale contrasta con il

… einen Hotelstrand zu benutzen.
Zum einen muss man nicht über rasiermesserscharfe Salzkristalle laufen (die - nebenbei bemerkt / auch unglaublich hart und stabil sind) und zum anderen kann man im Anschluss das ölige Salz auch mit Süßwasser abduschen. Den Schlamm sowieso.
In unserem Fall war dies derjenige des Ramada-Hotels - was mit 15 JD pro Nase zu Buche schlägt.
Nimmt man Buffet dazu (nicht so der Brüller, ich hab’s ausprobiert) kommt man auf 25 JD pro Person.
Das Treiben auf dem Wasser ist lustig - Zeitung mitnehmen für ein paar nette Fotos - bis zu dem Zeitpunkt an welchem einem einige Tropfen in die Augen laufen. Das brennt ganz ordentlich, bis die Tränenflüssigkeit das nach ein paar Minuten wieder neutralisiert - bloß nicht reiben.
Schlammcatchen ist bei dem Heilschlamm auch nicht angezeigt, das verfärbt die Badehose noch mehr als es das Meerwasser ohnehin tut.
Das Korken-Feeling auf dem Wasser ist herrlich.

Not fancying the hotel accessed beaches nor the public beach, I was so pleased to discover Salt Beach at the southern end. So quiet, so beautiful, so easy. A short walk down from the road, and a lovely guy who offers shower facilities for when you are finished for 2 dinar. A wonderful, wonderful experience of the Dead Sea...

Vorrei venire ad agosto dal 1 al 11 ho già chiesto dei preventivi per aereo ..Vorrei fare mezza pensione e sapere prezzo bevande tipo acqua e bibite al dead sea .i fanghi che si vedono sulle persone in foto sono in spiaggia e tutti possono usarli ? O bisogna pagare ? Grazie

Does anyone know the best place to “swim” in the Dead Sea for a family with children aged 5-15? Should we go to a hotel/resort or a public beach. We’re more public beach type people and don’t want to spend a lot but prepared to pay entrance fees if it’s much nicer at a hotel. If a hotel, which one? Thank you!

Thanks everyone. We splashed out on the crowne plaza - 40JOD for buffet lunch and Dead Sea swim. Loads of mud for smearing and a really nice beach, plus a slightly tired but huge swimming pool and pretty good food. No problems for teenaged girls in bikinis! We weren’t sure a Dead Sea swim would be that special but it was. Would definitely recommend

Would definitely recommend hiring a car. It’s cheaper and gives you the benefit of touring on your own time. Bear in mind, sites to see are somewhat spread out so having your own vehicle will definitely work out. My wife and I hired and was the best thing we could have done. Roads are decent with little traffic especially once out of a major area. Take the plunge 😊 it’s fun and you will definitely remember your trip this way.
Hey! I am planning on driving from aqaba to amman in may. What would you recommend as far as car rentals go. I have looked in to some but the only one that got back to me wanted my visa information right away. Any suggestions would help!

Ci sono molti ‘lidi’ scendendo dalla strada principale. Basta avere un po’ di parlantina è un po’ di faccia tosta ma sono una popolazione tranquillissima. Noi siamo scesi da jericho e passato tutta la costa poi abbiamo chiesto ad una stazione di benzina e poi ad un ristorantino sul mare. Enjoy
