Went to see the good stuff that should be inside the palace buildings but turns out not much to see at the time apart from some nice embroidery that's about it.
I think the national museum was better, with a lot of good national treasures.

This museum is small in size, but was free of charge when we went. It is located right next to Gyeongbokgung Palace, and had some informative, historical displays and exhibits. If you are visiting the palace, it is worth visiting this museum.

A small and free museum, next to Gyeongbukgung and adjacent to Exit 5 of the subway station, with nice exhibitions of Korean royal families, their daily lives, rituals, and the scientific achievements in Joseon era. Nice place to learn Korean royal history.

We were here in June 2023. Very interesting museum with many interesting things to see, as well as descriptions also in English. Would like to see more, but get so many impressions when travelling from Norway to South Korea that sometimes the impressions disappear a bit over each other, but this place is a must when you are in Seoul!

This museum covers much about the Korean royal family from the proclamation of the empire. There's a lot of information about the daily lives of the family members, including rituals, ceremonies, Confucian principles etc. Those with an interest in pre-modern astronomy will enjoy the exhibitions on the scientific achievements of the Joseon Dynasty as that's what most of it is. This section also has a fantastic video show on Korean science and use of the constellations. Sadly, it's in Korean only, but it looks good and is understandable. There's plenty of information in English or free audio guides using QR codes. Just remember to bring your earphones. The museum contains truly outstanding items including silk screens, palanquin of the king, the imperial throne.

Entire second floor housing the Joseon era is closed for updating of the collection !
Closed from April till end of October 2024 so if you are interested in the ‘ royal era ‘ do not bother to go as the only collection to visit is on the 1 floor and this is end of 1800 ‘s and into Japanese era … This closure was not mentioned on the website when we prepared our visit so in fact waste of time …

It is a nicer place to visit then the Gyeongbukgung beside it. It gives you a good perspectives of Korean history and the artefacts are good to see. Free admission.

Definitely, this is a must visit museum if you want to learn about Korean history. Although I'm not a fan of the royals, it's still interesting from a historical perspective. There are so many artifacts (from thrones to dresses) to check out. We spent over two hours checking out the displays. The best part is there's no entrance fee.

Best place to visit Monday when all other sights and attractions are closed. Easy to get to as it is in the middle of the city. We saw the change of guards at 11 am and then followed the free English guided tour.
Beautiful palace, gardens and architecture. On a hot day, cool down in the museum building within the complex and see a rare antique Cadillac and learn about Korean history and see some great antiques.
