The place is the home of a peranakan who is passionate about his heritage. A private museum, all the items in the place were bought from all over with no government funding. Impressive!
It is the stories and Peranakan history told by Alvin that make this visit so different. This experience complements what I had at the Peranakan Museum in Armenian Street.

Alvin is such a lovely and knowledgeable host and the whole experience is interesting, educational and charming. Well worth a visit and I’ll be coming back!

A lovely museum tucked in a quiet row of quaint houses. A warm and wonderful experience awaits you when you enter the door. Your hand instinctively reaches for your phone as you want o capture everything inside - a wide and colorful collection of everything Peranakan imaginable! When Alvin shares how it all began, you are taken back in time and for a while, you forget everything else and just be there in the moment...

Wonderful visit and tour of Alvin's home and collection of Peranakan furniture, furnishings, clothing, shoes!, china, tiffin boxes, jewellery, and many other items far too numerous to mention. Even more amazing than the collections themselves was hearing his personal story and insights into this unique culture! Plus we got to try some Peranakan treats! Definitely worth a visit for those looking to delve a bit deeper into the history and traditions of an important cultural group in Singapore.

We were lucky to be able to book a last-minute visit at The Intan. It was worth the visit. The Intan is not your regular museum, not stuffy or rigid.
Our visit started with a short conversation with Alvin, we got to know about the history of the place. Through telling the story of how he started his collection we learned the history of the Peranakan. The conversation was very casual, he asked about where we came from too. At this point it felt like we were talking to a friend. After that we roamed around the first then the second floor. It was a feast for the senses. Our visit ended with a homemade Peranakan meal where some dishes are the recipe of Alvin’s mother. All the dishes were very good, some flavors I have never tasted before.
We stayed at The Intan for almost 2 hours, but it felt like it went by fast. It was like going to a friend’s house who has a very cool collection of rare historical pieces. Here, we did not only learn about history of Singapore and the Peranakan but we experience Peranakan hospitality. I cannot recommend this enough and will come back when I visit Singapore.

Alvin was an enthusiast on all things Peranakan. He explained the history and culture and his collection is vast and eclectic. The tour ends with tea and traditional cakes and the colourful Peranakan houses are nearby.

This was a great way to see the soul of Singapore--to see that it is more than just fancy shiny buildings, but that it has a rich historical culture. Highly recommend.

The Intan is beautifully curated and offers a rare and rich glimpse of the multi-faceted Peranakan culture. These were brought to life by museum owner Alvin Yapp, whose personal anecdotes and hospitality made the visit an enriching experience.

Alvin was the perfect host. entertainer, and museum curator!! Everything was fabulous! His collection of Peranakan items was amazing and the meal they cooked us was delicious!

When our Grab driver dropped us off I was convinced we were in the wrong location but Alvin Yap the delightful proprietor came out to greet us. We hosted our family of four with tea, snacks and an introduction to his personal passion project of many years, collecting Peranakan artifacts and displaying them in his home. Clearly, the collection is destined for a more formal venue, and we felt lucky to be viewing it in such a personal setting. Many thanks to Mr. Yap for sharing his home so generously with the public, and for what I thought was a modest fee.

the price is same for local and foreigners. For 1 person the cost is $120. For min. 4, the cost is $60 per person

Hi . Bus 33 from the city gets you closest to where we are . You can stop at the tembeling/Joo Chiat place bus stop n its a 7 min walk from there. Paya lebar station is the nearest train station . Ask directions to for Joo Chiat complex n from there it's another 7 mins walk
Pls note tat the museum is open purely by appointments only

The cost for a 4 person visit is $65 per person, with tea and refreshments provided for. The visit will last an hour. Do let us know when you will be coming so that we can make a reservation for you!
