Heart warming and stirring memorial. Read the names of the ships, in particular. Military and commercial. TV images from 1982 spring to mind. Superbly maintained and fiercely proud to do so. The monument overlooks the harbour inlet. Inescapable if you want to understand this place, from all sides.

Two separate memorials from each other, nicely done to commemorate those lost in 1982, well worth the walk to both.

A very well maintained monument to those who lost their lives, though I always do wonder why those that put their lives at risk and kept them are not acknowledged more than they are.

We were here on the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War. Princess Anne visited by pure luck when we were in town. We had a beautiful day and ceremony was very nice.

This memorial is a spectacular commemoration of the British Forces and supporting units that helped to free the Falkland people of Argentine rule. Unveiled by Sir Rex Hunt in 1984, it is situated off Ross Road in front of the Secretariat Building.
We were humbled by the amount of military personnel who sacrificed their lives - all 255 are listed on an array of plaques, and the side of the memorial. The central obelisk holds a bronze figure of Britannia atop and directly behind, a very detailed relief identifies certain moments of the war.
This was definitely near the top of my list of things to see during my detachment. I’m glad I took the time to pay my respects and admire the intricate design of the area as a whole.

No visit to the Falkland Islands and its capital Stanley would be complete without visiting the 1982 memorial. Easy access and on the sea front pretty much in the centre of Stanley. Well maintained and a fitting memorial to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in liberating these islands from illegal occupation in 1982.

We were there on Remembrance Day. The memorial column and wall plaques were in excellent condition and although many people present a reverential air was maintained. An experience of the highest magnitude.

Of the 92% of Islanders who voted in the referendum, 99.8% voted to stay with Britain. The Falkland War and those who died in it were the price of the freedom to choose. This is a moving memorial to those who served and died.

Como argentina no puedo sentir satisfacción estar ante monumento. Me embargó mucha tristeza en pensar en los jóvenes que en 1982 sufrieron y hasta murieron innecesariamente en estas frías tierras.

Visiting this monument was the main reason one goes to the Falkland Island to pay respect to the dead and to try to experience what it must have been like during the battle. You cannot help but be emotional when reading the the names of the war dead and the battle honours that so many received.
Margaret Thatchers bronze bust is on a plinth nearby which says"THEY ARE FEW IN NUMBER BUT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE IN PEACE. TO CHOOSE THEIR OWN WAY OF LIFE AND TO DETERMINE THEIR OWN ALLEGIANCE."
I guarantee you will never forget this place.
