The journey to Cape Pembroke lighthouse is as much a part of the experience as the destination itself. It is about 7 miles from Stanley on well maintained gravel roads.
There is no public access to the lighthouse, an iron cylinder about 18 metres high.Construction was around 1855. The lighthouse alerts shipping to the most easterly point of the Falklands.
On the journey are several bays where you may see dolphins, seals and penguins.
Past the light house is a memorial to those killed in the 1982 conflict, particularly those on The Atlantic Conveyor.

Iconic structure just outside Stanley. Going a bit further have a look at the rocks, they were covered with penguins when we were there. The lighthouse could do with an information board.

Stood on the easternmost point of the Falkland Islands, this circa 1855 built cast iron tower is roughly 18 metres in height. From Stanley it’s about seven miles, on a road that’s fairly well maintained (although deteriorated in places). I believe the tower was rebuilt on new foundations in 1905 with the light structure itself being restored many times over the years.
During the 1982 conflict, the lighthouse was deemed no longer operational. Although it has weathered, funding is in place to actively maintain it through local charities and companies.
On our visit, we were lucky enough to witness Whales (although very much in the distance). A monument is situated a short walk towards the coastline and, the remains of what appeared to be a cottage were still visible at the foot of the tower.
Recommendations - take binoculars with you, warm clothing (obviously), travel in a vehicle that can handle off-road conditions and wander down to the sea, where you’ll find coves etc.

This is well worth a visit for the views and if you are very lucky you will see seals laying out in the long grass at the end passed the light house is one of the propers from The Atlantic Conveyor that was sunk on its way to the Falkland Conflict

Well, a trip with dolphins rather a porpoise if I'm honest. The Lighthouse is great, as is a walk or run out and around the dunes of Cape Pembroke. Surf Bay is nearby and is stunning. As are some of the little beaches on the north shore of the Cape where the dolphins play in the surf. Whilst out this way, visit the Atlantic Conveyor Memorial and remember those who gave everything for a cause they believed in. A visit to much more than a lighthouse.

We were lucky enough to have access to the key for the
lighthouse,it is a very tricky vertical climb inside but well

Awesome view and well worth the 10 charge . If your not good with heights like myself it can take a few deep breaths to get up and down . However the ladders are 1000000% safe just take your time .

easternmost point of East Falkland. Old lighthouse. You can get its key at the Historic Dockyard Museum/Falkland Islands Museum for a small fee. Inside the old lighthouse you can climb up and enjoy a wonderful view. Don't forget to lock the door when you leave...

After picking up the Key (£10 charge) we drove to Surf Bay and walked out to Cape Pembroke and the lighthouse. An easy walk along the coast past some delightful beaches and bays. In one bay we watched a pod of about 12 dolphins for at least 30 minutes. The lighthouse itself was last lit on the day of the Argentine invasion. The views from the top of the lighthouse are 360 amazing. There is now a gravel road all the way, but I would still recommend the walk.
