Would love to visit again.

This is unashamedly a very poor community, but hospitality second to none. Friendly smiles everywhere. Best ocean swim I had in 14 days of cruising. Easy walk around the island, and seemed no no-zones.

Отличный риф
thg 3 năm 2020 • Bạn bè

A dream island, clean sandy beaches
thg 3 năm 2020
Such an experience to spend a day on such a remote island in the South Pacific. The islanders were so welcoming, especially the teachers at their primary school.Good swimming and snorkelling opportunities. Speed boat tours from 10Fijian Dollars upwards. Crystal clear waters. Pity about the islander who imprisoned a sea turtle in a bath and who was charging 5 dollars for tourists to photograph this beautiful and endangered species.

Explore, enjoy and soak it in.

Got it the cruise ship and really didn’t expect much, but walk the beaches and explore the rocks which include coral and lava as well as the shells. Tiny population but all nice and trying to make a living leave money for them but something and explore and look around you. We even stumbled on a graveyard.

Another Slice of Paradise….
thg 1 năm 2020
….THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PLACES LIKE THIS IN THE S.W. PACIFIC….

….and the Cruise Line Companies are rather good at finding them. Visiting is kinda unique – many people, myself included, have holidayed FIJI intensively but it is rare to get to one of these out of the way offshore islands.

AN UNTOUCHED PARADISE? Not quite – local fishing boats are now tinnies** with outboards rather than outrigger canoes and the village has solar panels and satellite dishes. But otherwise we are looking at a place much the same as way back, There are no cinemas, vehicles, roads.
What we are talking about is a small island (abt 2000mx500) to the north east of KADUVU, one of FIJI’s bigger southern islands. DRAVUNI sits within a big lagoon formed by the GREAT ASTROLABE REEF which surrounds this and several nearby islands. Visiting cruise liners anchor in this very sheltered lagoon about 500m offshore and passengers are tendered to the main beach. This runs the full length of the western coast. Sand closer to white than yellow, not much coral debris or shells, plenty of width at high tide, good tree shelter back of beach. Smooth rock on entry to water in some places, not slippery. Offshore reef and island lee meant no waves/currents. Water clear, shelved gently, got progressively deeper for the 70m I snorkelled out, no coral, few fish. I wasn’t prepared to go the 1km+ to the reef for the apparently excellent snorkelling/diving on the drop-off.

The only village of about 200 people is just behind a northern section of the beach. Worth a wander – the locals are very friendly.
Between village and beach they had set up stalls with the usual touristy stuff – clothing, hair braiding, snacks, drinks, beach-side camp-chair rentals and $aud10 tinnie rides around the island.

Several tracks radiate from the village and climb over a low but steep central ridge to a number of beaches on the eastern coast. Smaller but similar sand wise to the main beach, prevailing winds were onshore meaning cooler area, snorkelling better off the beach and around the separating rocks.

There is a higher hill (130m) at island’s southern end with a track climbing to the summit. Panoramic views.

TIPS – tendering is pretty easy. The anchorage is very sheltered as is the central pier at the beach.
- be aware that Fijians are deeply religious – wear modest swimwear and cover up in the village.
- sunscreen needed – the tropical sun is fierce
- pick a shade tree which looks recently groomed of ripe coconuts
-didn’t see any outfits offering diving or snorkelling trips out to the surrounding reef.
- the track to the summit was not too steep – my shorter cross-ridge trail to the eastern coast was very steep over short distances with helper ropes.
- FIJI gets plenty of TROPICAL CYCLONES (aka HURRICANES/TYPHOONS) so beach conditions can change markedly.

Beautiful Island
thg 1 năm 2020
There isn't much to do on Dravuni Island but enjoy the beach, the village, and the scenery.
The friendly people show you their wares---jewelry, fresh coconuts, and other local specialties.
A calm relaxing place to enjoy.

Beautiful beach, very friendly locals, incredible snorkelling, the ocean was very clear.
Very few people live on this island, and there is not much there because they want to keep it pristine, and good luck to them.
Because of that, not much available in the way of food. I bought water from a local lady.
Would return in a heartbeat.

Unspoiled tropical paradise
thg 1 năm 2020
Arrived on a tender from our ship on a perfect sunny day to enjoy a few hours on the white sands and clear waters near the local village. Friendly locals selling the usual souvenirs and fresh coconuts were happy to see us and make some money. A walk to the other side of the Island took about 12 minutes on a level but narrow path, but not as nice a beach there.

great for families with children
thg 11 năm 2019
inviting, safe and clean beaches allow for swimming and snorkeling in pristine waters
on this island almost untouched by civilisation. Great for families with children.
Elderly people too can get enjoyment out of a beach walk and a paddle in the ocean. They should not attempt the steep climb to the hilltop lookout. Enjoy!
