It wasn’t just a drive; it felt like shaking off the heaviness of winter and stepping into a new chapter.

The island is in the south of China and belongs to Shantou City，The seafood is delicious. It's really pleasant to have sea breeze and barbecue.

Fishing village island, natural sites and serene scenery. Oyster farming, seaweed farming, and lots of dried seafood stuff on sale. Good value. Good place to have a nice seafood lunch or dinner.

This island is highly recommended for anyone who travels in Shantou. Nan'Ao bridge ( 南澳大桥)can bring you a across from Mainland over the ocean to this beautiful island.Taking photo while you are in the bus for long bridge is a must. Public Transport from Shantou downtown is amazingly convenient by bus NO.161A, 161B or 105.I would recommend to Drop off at Nan'Ao Tourist center ( 南澳游客中心),then take bus NO. 601or 602 for going around the island.View on the way on the road passing along cliff is fabulous. Tropic of Cancer square (北回归线)is the main point that you need to visit as this island has geographical line passing through.Seafood can be found every where here.

I stayed at the Century Hotel, which did not accept foreign credit card, I had to go to a local bank with ATM that accept Visa/ Master cards, to get cash for the payment of the hotel. Other than a very basic Chinese breakfast there are no facility in the hotel, not even a frige to keep your drinks cold in the 30+ degree heat.....

Getting across the island is now very convenient with the opening of 9,341 meters long Nan'ao bridge. The island is famous for its seaside activities besides the many seafood around it. There are many historical places to visit too. The Tropic of Cancer line runs across this island and at noon, the sun shines directly over the globe at The Gate of nature park.

Our 2nd visit, the previous we get into a boat. Now the Nan'ao bridge linking Shantou is build, beautiful & approximately 11.5 kilometres long build into deep waters. The technology was fantastic, in its engineering works. Filled with security cameras to deter speeding, overtaking & reckless drivers - this bridge has a safety first except for the number of road hogs who drove and took videos at the same time with their hands on the wheels. even tooting the horns with them travelling at less than 40 kilometres an hour did not encourage a response to moving aside for faster vehicles. But our first stop here were the small seafood village, where the seafood were fresh & the pricing affordable. We did not believe the tour guide & so made many purchases, then we realise that our wholesale center selling these seafood were much much more expensive & of poorer quality except for the variety. Edible seaweeds were at going prices of 10 rmb here, whereby we bought ours for just 5 rmb.(same weight packaging). We had our lunch with the restaurants workers standing, screaming for customers in the middle of the road, waiving at any vehicle that passes. But the attitude of the service staff were appalling & impossible (unlike the bosses). We had a nice tasting "PenCai" seafood lunch before leaving.

It’s a yeah 💕this is our second visit to this area of Shantou the first being 2015 whilst working in China 🇨🇳 The area is renowned and loved for the its various food delights served in small local restaurants or catch a street trader, equally wholesome food. A lengthy drive from our home in Guangzhou, normally to with our Chinese friends to unwind and relax.. it’s a yeah Gordon 🇬🇧 Mrs .. Sissi 🇨🇳

sitted in a bus. the only restaurant whose waiters & waitress waives & calls each car that passes along this road (yes practically in the middle of the road they were howling). That is how they gather the businesses & competition.
situated next to a long stretch of sea coastline,You can't miss. Pencai should comprise all different sea food & tasty (albeit could be salty because of the range placed into it. Short & lacking in touristy location except for dried seafood shopping.

The Tropic of Cancer monument is at Qing'ao Bay where there is also a beautiful beach. Yes, you can go on a public bus from the main town on the island. I think the bus numbers are 601 and 602. The buses go regularly, all very easy. The island is lovely, well worth a visit.
