This is my favourite place in Ladakh. Beautiful lake surrounded by impressive mountains. Amazing landscapes in the area. Should not be missed!

Out of all the lakes in Ladakh, this is genuinely filthy! Yes, you read it right. Trust me, because this was our second visit to Ladakh. Have seen this heaven on earth. Went there after reading so much hype on the blogs, TA but simply not worth your time. There’s immense construction activity going right on the bank of the lake making it shabby. All sorts of random tents and very filthy. Save yourself by not bothering to visit

We drove from Hanle to Umlingla Pass to Tso Moriri lake on the same day. It was a tiring drive. To add to this the road to Tso Moriri (the last 45 kms approx to the homestay/camps) was terrible. Sharp rocks and boulders.
We reached the place by 6 pm. It’s wiser to stay in camps as home stays were kind of dingy, bad food.
The lake is beautiful. Smaller version of Pangong Lake.
DO NOT STAY AT DOLPHIN HOTEL IN FRONT OF THE MONASTERY. VERY BAD.

It's a much smaller version of Pangong. I liked it but not everyone will think that it's worth traveling for 6 hours after visiting Pangong.

A hidden gem at an altitude of 14800 feet, surrounded by cold snow covered mountains and dessert with deep blue brackish clear water! Isolated place in midst of nowhere, ideal for adventure seekers, honeymooners, and nature lovers.

Tso Moriri is a brackish lake in the Changthang Plateau. You need an Inner Line Permit to visit. It's less popular than the Pangong Tso but equally beautiful. It's at an altitude of >4,500m which means you must be equipped to handle the altitude.
The Tso Moriri & the surrounding marshes are a Ramsar Wetland Conservation Area which means you need to be mindful of the native fauna. The Korzok village is the nearest settlement; you'll be able to get a couple of basic hotels & home stays here.
The mountains surrounding the lake were snow peaked even in September. & it was biting cold at night. Make sure you've the appropriate gear. The lake water is an iridescent blue; one of the most gorgeous scenes I've ever come across.
Extremely calm lake except for birds paddling & wading in it. While Pangong has gotten commercialized now, Moriri remains pristine. In case you're driving on your own, be mindful there are no fuel stations/ toilets on the way.
Also be mindful that the Korzok area has a heavy army presence.

We travelled to tso moriri directly from pangong.. Though its a long lonely route but was worth it. I suggest you take this route only if you have either a local driver or you are travelling in a big group..
The lake itself was too beautiful.. Iam myself not a big fan of view points but the one at tso moriri changed my view becaise the lake looked beautifil from that view point.
Tha lake looks totally different from all sides and at all times of the day.. The place was really really cold.. So plan to stay in tents only if you are going in summer months..
We got to see so many beautiful places on the way from pangong to tso moriri.. Must go place while you are in leh ladakh

Hi,
Am reaching Leh on 8th October. I want to visit Hanle, pangong, Tso moriri and whatever comes in between. I have no fixed schedule or itinerary. If anyone can suggest how do i do this ? I do not feel comfortable driving alone on a bike. Nor can i drive car. I can’t afford to do private taxi. So any suggestions?
Or anyone would like to join let me know. I can customise my itinerary.

You can join any group who are going there. Contact few tour operator who can club you. Or, join any group from your hotel.
It will be very economical.

Hello,
My husband and me are taking a 7 night taxi trip to Ladakh. We are wondering if we should add Tso moriri after visiting Leh, Nubra, Turtuk, Pangong, before returning to Leh. Would it be too much of a repetition of landscapes during the drives? Would it be very tiring or stressful? We are 35 years. Not been to altitudes higher than 3000 m. But absolutely love landscapes.
Thank you in advance.

You need proper acclimatization ar leh before you go higher altitude, usually two days. In these two days you can cover leh and near by places.
I suggest you to ho Tso Moriri then plan for Pangang Tso. Some people skip it after Tso Moriri as you will visit several lakes in way to Tso Moriri

Yes, one night is enough to cover Tso Moriri and Kyagar Tso... just take care of AMS as it is at 15000 ft height...
Stay at TsoMoriri Lake view hotel... it is good... see reviews for this hotel on tripadvisor

you can expect broken roads and dirt roads in some sections. But an Innova should work fine. high ground clearance is needed not a 4 wheel drive.

We are planning total of 5 days tour of pangong tso lake, tso moriri lake ,nubra valley, khardungla pass, zanskar valley .
Can this be possible in total of 5 days including 1 day of acclimatisation.

If you have 5 days, you must cut Tso moriri lake out. It's too far from the other places in your trip.Of course it's possible but you will visit every places just for a short time. Not recommended.
Can someone suggest a good budget hotel in Tso Moriri for 30th June.
