Tried to visit Mullayangiri on 14/01/2024 in the morning around 8:00 AM. Could not reach the peak. The Traffic was pathetic. No traffic management - 01 km long Traffic Jam. Vehicles were parked in single and double lines all along the narrow road meant for climbing up and down to/from Mullayanagiri peak. No space to even walk to the peak. A total waste of time.
I would discourage folks to visit this peak till Karnatak Govt or Chickmagalur District Administration do something about Traffic management in this narrow road and restrict/control the vehicles going up to the peak. Proper Parking area should be created at various points/heights and hold vehicle at lower levels till parking at higher levels are vacated.

Highest peak of karnataka. Excellent location in the winters to visit. Good but narrow roads, prefer using driving vehicles which have Hill assist control because of the sudden and steap elevation. Unlike ooty and munnar, the roads are very steap and narrow, so if u are stuck in traffic then it will be difficult to manage your car. Suggest taking a cab from sitalayangiri which is just below mulayangiri. To reach the peak, you have to climb 500 steps. And at the peak there is a shiva temple. Views are mesmerizing from the top. Not advisable for people who have knee pain. Food options available at the site are Maggi and some cold drinks.

A very pleasant and scenic drive from Chikmaglur town takes you to Mullayanagiri peak. Some tips :
1. In google maps, put the destination as Mullayana giri car parking.
2. Reach here early so that you can park your car hassle free. We reached by around 9:30 am and the car parking was already full. We parked our vehicle on the side of the road a small distance away. It requires some good driving skills to manoeuvre the vehicle while parking and also more importantly, while exiting as by that time, there would be more crowds, more vehicles and none will have the patience to stop and allow you to take out your car 😀
3. Those who are reaching here later in the day, I would suggest that you park your car at Seethalayana giri car parking where the road is wider and then take a hired jeep ride to Mullayanagiri.
4. It is very windy at Mullayanagiri so come prepared with any caps or light jackets if needed.
5. The climb up the steps is doable with reasonable fitness levels so don’t worry.

Amazing location. The climate was changed from one to another. You can feel the passing clouds, mist and the high velocity wind. We visited on the weekend. Our vehicle was not permitted .We took another Jeep to reach this place. You can enjoy the nature. During our visit it was cloudy, but after some time it was clear. We enjoyed the 270 degree view. Very serene and beautiful place.

A lovely drive with breath taking views. A must do if you have a car at your disposal. There are some steps which one needs to climb for better views. It is like you are driving through the clouds

After reaching there, from down walk through the stairs ( approx. 400). Then you have beautiful view of the landscapes. We had cloudy climate, raining here and there which made the place more scenic. Worth taking few mins to enjoy the nature from highest peak of the state.

A very peaceful place to go. You will have to book a personal taxi/cab/jeep or better to book a auto if you are 2-3 people and looking for a cost efficient personal vehicle. On the way to Mullayanagiri hills, there will be places like Baba budangiri and Jhari falls to visit. From Chikkamagalur, you should start your journey early morning 6am, and have your breakfast at Chikkamagalur itself because going forward there will be less restaurants to eat.

Travel to Chikmagalur from Hyderabad by Road. We started at around 9 AM and stopped at Mantralayam for darshan. We started our journey at around 5 PM. We reached Chikmanglur at around 1 PM. We stayed at “Tresca a luxury hotel.”.
I wouldn’t say that it’s a luxury hotel. It’s basically a three star hotel. Brand-new and very well maintained. It’s a perfect place to stay if you want to be in the city. The staff here are very well coming and friendly. It is located on the main road with ample Parking (covered). The room is spacious with a very comfortable bed.
The next morning we drove to Mullayanagiri Peak. It’s and hours drive from the hotel. It’s quite an experience. It was drizzling in the atmosphere on the peak was amazing. After reaching a point. It may not be safe to drive in our own cars so we hired a jeep go to cast to the top having snacks like hot, Maggie and boil corn in that atmosphere was fun later that afternoon. We checked out from the hotel and move to Mudigeri. This was approximately two and half hours from the town.
We booked accommodation at the river missy resort in Mudigeri. The staff from the property were constantly in touch with us over the phone. While we were reaching the property. We had to park our cars at a location which was 4 km is away from the resort. We then got on there jeeps as we had to cross a couple of Water bodies to reach the property. We enjoyed the ride thoroughly.
River misst resort is a beautiful property spread across 7 acres. It is full of greenery and beautiful views of the mountains. We stayed in our luxury cottage which was very spacious and had a private sit out with great views. The staff here are very polite, friendly and welcoming. They have a naturalist on board who takes the guests on nature walks at a stipulated time twice a day. I am not sure if I remember his name correctly. I think he is Ajith. He is a young guy from Karnataka interacting with him was a great experience. Our plan included Having three meals at the property and the food was good. The property has a nice swimming pool and indoor games. The best part about the property is they have a private waterfall at a walking distance. It’s quite an experience. Overall it was a great vacation which was not pre planned

I am told that the road from the checkpost till the top of the peak is closed due to heavy rains. Even the roads from Chikmagaluru till the check post is quite a risky one due to narrow patches, dense fog, heavy rains etc. Better to check with police authorities if the travel is permitted.

I took my own car. But a jeep drive may be approx. 150 to 200 per person.

Do we need to take guide for the trek or not for routes?. And can you describe the full route from chikkmangalur to mallanagiry peak then bababudangiri and return to chikmangalur. Also what kind of public transportation are available for same??

Hi, one usually dont need a guide, however, you need to hire local jeeps for baba budangiri, so hire a mini bus that can take you to both the places and try to wind up before sunsets.

Can be cooler up at the top, but you should be okay without taking extra clothing
