I loved the first class so much, I went back for a second time. Widya and the team are so lovely and attentive - not to mention oozing with talent and excellent instructors. The process of batik is amazing. This is the best thing I’ve done so far in Ubud.

My husband and I each spent five hours designing our batik creations and learning how to apply the wax and then the color. We had ample help at each step of the process. It was a great experience and helps us to better appreciate the batik tradition in Bali.

We were recommended Widya Batik and are so very happy that we had a 3 hour workshop there. From the start we were given excellent instruction and guidance, and as absolute beginners this was greatly appreciated. We are totally thrilled with our pieces and will be making them into cushions for "the Front Room"!!
While waiting for our pieces to dry we enjoyed a lovely home cooked Balinese meal. Overall the experience was fantastic and will be recommending Widya Batik ourselves.

We had a fantastic experience. My partner and I were joined by just one other person in the class. We were both grateful we opted for the 5-hour experience. We love what we created and plan on hanging them in our home. It was an honor to be taught by Mr. Widya, who is a multi-generational batik artist, in his home. My partner liked the experience so much that he went the next day to do a second, more advanced batik. There were no other students that day and he was grateful for Mr. Widya's hands-on assistance on creating a hanging that he is so proud of. Josh thanks you!

What a great place to learn how to make a batik! The only regret I have was that we didn’t make a design of my own precious to the date we were doing the batik. It’s so cool to explore the possibilities! The staff is amazing and super arty. They know what they are doing for sure and help you bring it to life. Everything gets explained very well. So if your a little artistic start sketching and bring it to the class! The dimensions are 30cm x 30cm ❤️

A fun afternoon spent learning the art of batik painting, taught by a wonderful teacher and his family. The instructions were clear and easy to understand and the process was explained thoroughly. We also had a delicious lunch and the owner organised a driver to take us to our accomodation afterwards.

Wat n geweldige ervaring! Sacht eerst 'leuk n batiklesje', maar met n lapje stop een batik design ontwerpen en maken. Heb dit altijd links laten liggen maar is echt n must-do!

I really enjoyed the class! Very relaxing activity. You can make your own design or use one of them. The teachers are very skilled and friendly.

I didn't think this was as good as some of the reviews suggest. I have done a range of classes in Ubud and this was the worse. The others were very good. I just felt the teaching wasn't great. The other classes I did were more attentive, you were guided and taught a lot. This was more just showing and then leaving you mainly to your own devices! I wanted to learn more about processes and understanding the technique. The teacher I had did not have very good English and I struggled to understand what he was saying. When I asked any questions, answers were limited. It was relaxing and the family and setting are nice. I did also think that it was a bit unfair when I needed to be dropped very close by that they charged me! I would have walked had it not been raining. The location is advertised as five minutes from Ubud Palace but it is nearly a thirty minute walk in the heat and maybe five to ten minutes with a car. There are many batik classes in Ubud so I suggest shopping around for a better option. There are different classes that the family run. I did the Learn and Enjoy the Art of Batik in Ubud which is advertised as three hours but it can take longer depending on design. What annoyed me is that as soon as it hit noon, we were offered a menu to buy lunch. When I politely declined, the woman appeared annoyed. Whilst I know a lot of people appreciated it, I just felt that the whole experience was about making money rather than learning and teaching like the other experiences I did. I didn't think this was a cultural experience like the art of batik should be. They provided complimentary water. Any additional drinks then you need to pay. Toilet on the premises.

Do batik class was fantastic. Well worth it! I stayed a night at Mason elephant sanctury and that was incredible. Had a swim with elephants ,washed them. Heaps of up close and personal photo opportunities. They are happy to take photos for you with your own camera at no cost. Fantastic experience. Saw lots of monkeys at the monkey forest.

Hi I will come to Bali and stay AIR Ubud from March 8-20. I am an artist and would like to study Balinese Batik. I would like to learn the basics of batik and then work on some large panels on very thin cotton. I would like the light to shine through the batik design on these panels. I want to experiment and would like to come for 10 days. Is this possible? What would be the cost? Can I pay extra for an artisan assistant to help me with the process on the large pieces? Karen

Yes, you can learn the art of Batik painting :) The artists from Widya’s will guide and teach you. Batik class starts at 10am, and normally ends at 3pm. Fee is 450K rupiah (~32 USD) per person.

I would just like to see , watch and have a look at the artist's work. I am not interested in learning the art. How long will it take inside the place? We are a family of four. Will the men get bored?

If the men are interested in an ancient and very interesting art form, then no, they won't get bored. The beautiful silk batik scarves and larger wall hangings he has for sale are magnificent and worth every penny. You will need to arrange directly with Widya to find a time convenient for him to show you his studio.

I contacted them on Messenger and they answered almost immediately with prices, dates available etc. I don't remember exactly how much it cost but it wasn't expensive. Hope that helps.

It goes from 10-3 with a lunch break. I don't know how much children would enjoy it...the process is fairly tedious--in that it takes some concentration. You should ask them if they have a program for children.

Hello!! I took the class this week for $400,000 rupias. They also have option for lunch for a very good price. Transportation is included in case you are staying in Ubud. You can contact them by Facebook "Widya Batik Studio" to book your class!
