We started our journey on safari at Shanga before heading out to Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. The tour is excellent and they teach you sign language appropriate to the setting so that you can communicate a bit with those who are working who are deaf or hearing impaired. Glassblowing, weaving, tikatika painting and other crafts are demonstrated by their very talented workers. We bought many souvenirs to take home. A great coffee shop is next to Shanga with very clean restrooms. Itʻs a great visit when in Arusha and seems a wonderful employment and training facility with folks with special needs.

Une très belle expérience au sein de cette association. Une association qui fait travailler les personnes handicapées. Travaille du tissu, du verre, de l’alu et ils les vendent à la fin.

This was an amazing place to shop. They offer quality products that are beautiful and support jobs for people with disabilities. They start off with a tour where you can watch them work on looms and glass beads. My lodge had a lot of their products. The bed covers were from Shanga and were beautiful and high quality. Our water bottles and glasses were beautiful also. I will definetly shop there on my next visit.

Don't miss this tour

This was a great place to meet the workers and they show you how to make their products. We tried what they were making, from making new bags out of recycled paper and making our own bracelets and necklaces. They had many wonderful products to chose from. I highly recommend to try out making their products. It gives you a great feel on how many steps it takes to making one product.

Amazing experience!

Today I visted this incredible place. Due to covid, many employees are not there. But there were a handful. The things these people make here are so beautiful. It is a a great cause to support. All proceeds go to directly bringing employment to people with a disabilty. Don't waste your money with things made in China. Any amount you spend here, you directly make a difference. The layout was beautiful, and the cafe next door is excellent for a nice glass of wine too! I am so glad I went here today. I would highly recommend the wine stoppers for a gift idea. They are beautiful and make cute little gifts to bring to loved ones back home!

Great to wander the facility and see how the various products are made. Bought so many handcrafted and unique gifts here, and love that they're using recycled materials. Followed by a fresh lemon and ginger drink, it was a great experience overall.

We didn't intend to come here, but I'm so happy we came!

We entered the property and I was already amazed by all the beautiful art made out of recycled materials, especially glass.

A kind man introduced himself and offered us to do a free tour. He showed us the people and how they worked here - from beading to glass blowing... It was truly impressive.

After the tour, you go into a little shop where you can support the whole thing financially by buying wonderful crafts.

Definitely recommend coming to everyone in Arusha! :)

Shanga is the Swahili word for bead. We had a great time on our tour with the disabled workers at Shanga, an Elewana initiative based at Arusha Coffee Lodge. The workshop was a hive of creative activity and everything from glass blowing recycled bottles, recycling old pots and pans, paper making, beading, bead making, weaving and metal work is done here. Shanga provides a protective, consistent and warm environment for Tanzanians with disabilities; and artfully crafting stunning products from waste materials. Highly recommended.
