A very beautiful garden, especially after visiting war memorial in Hiroshima and feeling low due to the suffering of Japanese people during a-bombing. A cruel history indeed.

Extraordinary park. You wouldn't expect it in the middle of town. Big too. Note, many stairs that are not all equally easy. (For the slightly older among us)). Sufficient explanation in English. The kois begging for a bite. Very rewarding became.

Beautiful varied garden area that you should definitely visit. Even with many visitors, you can let the beautifully designed landscapes take effect here.

The Shukkei-en Garden is just a short walk ~10 minutes from the Hiroshima Castle. You may purchase the entrance ticket inside the Prefectural Art Museum. Note if you are 65 years old or more, it is free entrance to the Shukkei-en Garden & Prefectural Art Museum. They both close by 5p.m. Get your eki stamp of the Art Museum next to the Ticket counter's left side as you face it.
The Shukkei-en Garden is a very scenic place that includes many small Japanese bridges and ponds that are filled with Japanese turtles and colorful koi (carp). There are plenty of hidden gardens such as a bamboo grove, miniature temple/torii gate, gingko grove, etc. We took the scenic route to walk around the garden. Very well kept Japanese garden that is nice to stroll and relax in as there is an authentic feel to it. Allow yourself at least an hour to visit Shukkein-en Garden, of course , depending on what season you visit as I'm sure during the Spring, the cherry blossoms will draw a crowd and fall colors as well.

When talking about the scenic spots in Hiroshima city, many people first think of Hiroshima Peace Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Although Hiroshima Castle is also one of the scenic spots in Hiroshima city, it is never as good as the former.
When it comes to relatively unpopular attractions, apart from Hiroshima Castle, there is Shukkeien Garden. Even though it is Shukkeien Garden, it is also one of the 100 selected historical parks. Part of the compact design in the park is based on the West Lake. Although the West Lake is also a man-made scenery, but I have actually been to the West Lake, my own feeling is that the story is relatively high, and the most important thing is that the imagination is beautiful.
If you look closely, I feel that the bridges are the most impressive thing about West Lake, and the Hongqiao bridge in Shuking Garden is somewhat similar, but in fact they are incomparable. I personally think the broken bridge in West Lake is more beautiful, and as for the span bridge Hongqiao is basically the key area of Shuking Garden.
As for the attractions in Hiroshima, most of them can be reached by ground tram. If you plan to visit Hiroshima city for a whole day, buying a one-day ticket is relatively convenient and hassle-free. If you divide the day into two like me For this part, friends who may have returned to Miyajima in the morning and returned to Hiroshima in the afternoon may only visit one attraction. In fact, it is not recommended to buy a one-day pass, especially with the aid of the pass. Shukkeien only has two round-trip fares. It’s not necessarily necessary to buy it.
Departing from Hiroshima Station to Shukeien, the fare is 220 yen. IC cards can be used on the bus. The most familiar watermelon cards and icoca are both acceptable. Just click the card when getting on and off. In principle, departure from Hiroshima Station to Shukeien It took about 26 minutes to get off the bus, and it only took 2-3 minutes to get off the bus and walk to Shukkeien Garden.
The admission fee for Shukkeien Garden itself is 260 yen. It and the art museum nearby sell passes. If you have friends who are considering going to the art museum, you might as well visit together, because the art museum is right next to Shukkeien Garden. You can see it when you drive to Shukkeien on foot.
Basically, the shrinkage of Shukkeien Garden may give the illusion that it is smaller. However, although it is not compared to other gardens, it feels very big and requires a lot of walking, but it has a condensed and compact feeling. Generally speaking, 40-60 minutes is It is enough. Most people will spend more time in Zhuoying Pond, which is across the Hongqiao Bridge. The main reason is that there are many koi fish raised in the pond water. Fish feed is also sold here for tourists to feed the fish and take photos. Children especially like to feed fish, so parents usually accompany their children here to feed fish and take photos.
The most important part of the garden is the Zuozakura Pond, which is divided into east and west areas across the Hongqiao Bridge. It is the concept of a circulation garden. Some of the scenery incorporates a Zen artistic conception. Savor the feeling carefully. It is quite beautiful, not famous for its grandeur but for its cleverness and exquisiteness. It also somewhat incorporates part of the literal meaning of the garden. It may be one of the less popular but interesting scenic spots.
I personally stayed here for about an hour. Although the garden itself is not big, it is worth savoring it slowly. As for the Hongqiao itself, it is not possible to walk across it, so a wooden pallet was built next door for people to walk through. The greenery inside makes it a rare oasis in the urban area. It makes you feel that it is a very good tourist attraction if you enjoy the tour.
After visiting Shukkeien Garden that day, I walked to Hiroshima Castle, which is not far away. In fact, it took about 20 minutes without taking a ride. However, I did not go up to the castle tower. I only used it from a distance. The camera records Hiroshima Castle, and then we return to Shukkeien Garden to take the Hiroshima Electric Railway. If it takes half a day, these three scenic spots can be visited together.
As for Shukkeien, I personally feel that although I have been to all three famous gardens in Japan, Shukkeien is relatively not that famous. It is because it is not so well-known that it can still maintain such a quiet environment. There are not many The hustle and bustle can be easily visited, which is my favorite urban attraction. As for the sad feeling of the atomic bombing, although a long time has passed, the building is still there to remind the historical process. Although when it comes to Hiroshima, everyone should think of Miyajima. , but if I had never been to Hiroshima, maybe I would also be that tourist who never enters the city.

We believe that visiting Hiroshima requires doing this. We thought the gardens were wonderful, among the best in Japan. The tiny version of a landscape may be found in the gardens. Large pines are represented by bonsai trees that have been well pruned, mounds by hills, etc.

Beautiful, relaxing and easy to manage park in the middle of Hiroshima. The entrance is a bit hidden in a side street. At cherry blossom time, you can also visit the park illuminated in the evening. Then the cash register is located in a building to the left of the park entrance during the day. The park offers beautiful planting, romantic paths and a small mini bamboo forest. For a few yen you can buy koi food. However, most of the already well-fed carp are actually full (a state that our koi somehow never reach at home ...) and you already have to look for a place where you can still find fish with appetite. Two packets per family or one packet per pair is probably enough. For the park you have to pay admission, but this is really very manageable in price. Very good opportunity to take it easy in hectic and noisy Japan and relax.

Shukkei-en Garden is a breathtaking example of traditional Japanese landscape design, offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of Hiroshima. The name "Shukkei-en," meaning "shrunken-scenery garden," perfectly describes its carefully crafted miniature landscapes, featuring serene ponds, graceful bridges, and meticulously pruned trees. Each step through the garden reveals new, intimate vistas that capture the essence of Japan’s natural beauty. Whether you're strolling through in spring when cherry blossoms adorn the garden or in autumn when vibrant foliage reflects off the water, Shukkei-en is a place of contemplation and timeless charm.

Nice Japanese garden near the Hiroshima Castle, and you can include it in your itinerary together with Hiroshima Castle and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. You can walk around the pond with bridges, pavilion, carps, etc., and will hopefully bring peace and tranquility with its atmosphere.

What an amazing place; it seems that just because it is situated in an exotic place it must be amazing. Far from it. Shukkeien translated into English means shrunken-scenery garden. The gardens represent the scenery of Japanese terrain in miniature. The gardens are set around a central lake and have been in existence for over 400 years are based on Lake Xihu (West Lake) in Hangzhou, China. The gardens served as refuge after the bombing of Hiroshima. The family owned gardens were donated to the City and after considerable renovations opened to the public. The gardens resembles valleys, mountains, and forests landscapes of Japan. Meandering around the garden are different footpaths that take the visitor along the different landscapes and provide a variety of perspectives. There are different routes to follow, each with branching paths and little side paths to explore. Taking our time and slowly strolling around, enjoying the pleasant views and relaxing at one of the tea houses.
Central to Shukkeien Garden is the pond, and the points of view one gets to enjoy while walking around it. Within the pond are countless Koi (carp) that visitors can feed for a small fee.
The garden can be visited year round and is especially beautiful during the spring, in the Sakura period when all the cherry blossoms bloom is out and in autumn when the garden turns a stunning red and brown, and is spectacularly lit up after dark.

Hi, I am wondering can I enter here with my luggage?
If I go here on 12th/13th/14th April, will I still be able to watch Cherry Blossom?
Thanks.

The café closes at 1600 so if they hold your luggage..be sure to pick it up by then! Or you can have any of the Japanese luggage companies like Black Cat or another mail your luggage to your next location in Japan even most airports..I have found it to be convenient and cheap!
