The official name is Rengeo-in Main Hall. On Monday, March 3, 2025, we received your donation at the Spring Tokai. On this day, I was able to see a thousand bodies of Kannon from a specially built high platform, and the flowers in Ikenobo were beautiful. Jun MIURA & Seiko ITO's 'Let's meet at Kyoto Sanjusangen-do Temple!' event, and at 3:33:33, the two of them appeared and gave various fun talks.

Beautiful complex on the edge of Kyoto. Very nice little garden and imposing interior. One expects rather small figures, but we are instructed on entering the hall of a better man. Very impressive impressions. Shoes must remain outside and photos in the temple hall are not allowed.

A very impressive temple that is very worthwhile. It's a shame you can't take pictures inside. Definitely a must-see.

Sanjusangendo is well-known for its Kyoto sightseeing. It's been a while since I've visited. The 1001 Kannon deities are truly stunning. Standing in front of the main image makes you want to pray quietly for a moment.

Buddhist temple, it was founded in 1132 and rebuilt at different times. Easily accessible via Shichijo Station, admission costs ¥600 per person. At 125 m long, the building happens to be the largest wooden structure in the world.
It houses the 1001 wooden statues representing Buddhist deities. The tour of the building is one way, it is forbidden to make photos and videos. Wooden structures allow you to take a little height to contemplate the bays of statues, aligned on several levels.
In the center, we can see the huge statue with 11 faces and 1000 arms and whose sculpted eyes are crystal. There are 100 bodhisattvas around it.
Possibility to donate or buy different candles and candles in the building. It is also possible to write on pieces of wood that will then be burned during an annual ritual festival.

Kannon deities line the 120-meter-long temple in an orderly fashion. There are other statues such as the wind god, thunder god, and twenty-eight other people, which are overwhelming. You lose track of time when you read the instructions on key points or look at your face.
The statue of Kannon does not change places. You have a face that looks like yourself, but you won't find it in one visit.
In early December, it was not cold, but the soles were cold because I took off my shoes to observe.

It is a magical place.
The main hall contains a big Buddha sitting on a lotus flower surrounding 1001 (!) standing golden Kannons (Goddess of Mercy) about human height made from cypress wood almost 1000 years ago. It's a shining army! The statues have 21 pairs of arms which symbolizes 1000 arms. There are different objects in the statues' hands. The statues have many faces (there are 11 small heads attached to the Main head). There are many other statues: G-d of Wind, G-d of Thunder, Heavenly Kings, etc. Some are playing musical instruments, some have wings, some have horse head on their head, some have fin-like brows, etc.
Unfortunately, you cannot take a picture there.
There is also a nice small garden outside.
Allow at least an hour.

This place is just breathtaking… and we have visited a lot of temples. Reminds me of the terracotta warriors in China. Absolutely beautiful place and really worth the visit.

Agree with the above. Though it also depends if you want to read all the signage at the bottom of some of the statues along the very long hall and how many people you have to walk through. The exterior garden was a quick breezed through for us.

We stumbled upon this temple by chance, it was mid /late afternoon and although somewhat busy, it wasn’t overcrowded. The temple is huge and everyone inside was respectfully quiet so it never felt busy.

京都駅前バスターミナルから１００系統のバスが平日、休日ともに数多く出ています。清水寺、銀閣寺行
で２個目のバス停（七条京阪前→博物館、三十三間堂前）です。バスで１０分位料金２３０円、１日３回以上バスに乗るのでしたら１日バス乗車券５００円をバスの運転手さんから購入するとお得です。
歩きだと地元の人なら早いのでしょうが慣れないと
２０分以上掛かるのではないでしょうか。
