If you're looking for unique art pieces to buy in Kyoto, this is your best bet. They offer high quality, hand-made wood block prints, and many other crafts and houseware items, clothes, glasses, etc. If you want a gift or souvenir that is more high quality than the items you find in the shopping arcades, make the trip here. The prices are higher, but so is the quality.

During a group meal, I ordered a beer and paid with a 1,000 yen note, but was given 250 yen in change in the form of 25 10 yen coins. I couldn't believe my eyes! I had heard that food in Kyoto was expensive, but I didn't think it would be this bad. When I go to Kyoto, I'll buy bento boxes from a convenience store!

Thanks to the gang here for demonstrating the ritual-rich tea ceremony and for allowing us to participate.Not thin like the tea at home, this was thick and green. Interesting. Shop on ground floor too.

If you order "Warm Chestnut Surinagashi" on the first floor of the Kyoto Handicraft Center, a staff member will bring it to your seat by the window on the second floor. It tasted like a cross between a meal and a snack.
A floor stool draped with a scarlet carpet under a red Japanese umbrella on the left side of the window seat creates a Kyoto-like atmosphere.
It is early December, and outside the window, the autumn leaves of the Enkianthus campanula and the remaining ginkgo leaves are coloring the streets of Kyoto at the end of the year.

The ginkgo leaves are falling

This a wonderful shop of high quality crafts produced in Japan. There is a wide range of items, jewelry, pottery, wooden products, clothes. Definitely worth a visit. The prices are not cheap but seemed fair given the uniqueness and quality of most of the items. We have been on our two last trips to Kyoto and would go again if ever we return

An absolutely wonderful selection of art and crafts. Staff spoke English. Reasonably priced for the very high quality.
And superb service - when we noticed a small issue with something we'd bought, they jumped in a cab to our hotel to replace it.

Really expensive!! Selection was ok - a lot of art pieces, but also some tat that was way overpriced. If you are looking for art prints and lacquerware, this place is fine (though overpriced even for that). But if you are looking for nice affordable souvenirs or any of the textiles goods, the gift shop at the Nishijin Textile Center is much better and cheaper, and the Atsy Street souvenir shops in Kyoto Station, near the Kintetsu Line escalator are even cheaper and also really nice. The stuff at Nishijin was a little more unusual and unique than Kyoto Stn stuff, but also a little more expensive.

I found souvenir shops a bit few and far between if you wanted anything other than food. The Handicraft Centre came to the rescue with a large variety of nice, quality gifts, t shirts, art etc. It's a bit of a walk from the main attractions, but worth it!

買物に行った訳ではありません。この口コミページも多分、上階の食事処「正阿彌」等を分離して小さなこの施設にいくつも口コミページ作って楽しんでいる人もいるかも・・・(何の意味があるのかは理解に苦しむが)。今回は、セット旅行の昼食と云うことで無理やり連れて来られた。誤解の無いように申し添えておくが、ここの昼食が最低、と云う訳ではないので・・。この酷いメニュー(正規のメニュー表にも掲載されていない)をチョイスした旅行会社の責任なのだが・・・さんざん待たされてようやく目にしたのが写真の通りのほぼ１００％近くが「作り置き」の粗末な弁当、これではト〇ピ〇クスのバス車中弁当(今ではそれさえも略されて無いが)よりも落ちる、パンフで後から確認したが、掲載されている最低の価格のメニュー写真よりも遥かに酷い、安物・・・。これでは本格的京懐石を提供してくれると云う評判もあるこの料亭に傷がつく・・・良かったのは畳部屋だが、今風に(当然のことだが)椅子・テーブルがセットされていたことと外の景色が平安神宮や武道館の緑で楽しめたことだけ。料理は「０点」でした。旅行社が値切り過ぎたんだね。これではいくら京都府民割で５０００円返してもらっても、別途２０００円の金券(本日中に使用しないとただの紙屑になる)を貰っても・・・割が合わない。割引して貰わなくても良いのでもう少し上品で美味しい料理を設定すべき。
