Anjar: sua população de 2400 habitantes é quase toda de origem armênia. Seu nome deriva do árabe: “fonte de água”. Hoje foi dia de conhecer outro sítio arqueológico que foi um local de caravanas comerciais árabes.

Anjar has the ruins of a former Umayyad city. Anjar means running water. It is near Baalbek. The town is based on Roman City planning. Two large avenues - the Cardio Maximus and Decumanus Maximus divide the city into four quadrants.
I enjoyed walking around and seeing the ruins. It is not as impressive as some of the other places such as Baalbek but definitely worth a visit.

This is another good place to stop if you are in the area. There are some amazing ruins here. We stopped here for about 45 minutes on the way to the Baalbek ruins and found it to be worthwhile. The shops out front by the entrance also have some great souvenirs.

A differenza di altri siti archeologici libanesi, che testimoniano spesso una sovrapposizione di epoche diverse, Anjar è uno straordinario esempio di pura architettura omayyade. Le cronache portano la fondazione all’inizio dell’VIII secolo d.C. e la sua distruzione solamente pochi decenni dopo, nel 744 d.C. Gli Omayyadi, la prima dinastia araba ereditaria dell’Islam, governarono in questa regione per circa 100 anni, prima di essere sconfitti dagli Abbasidi. La città era probabilmente un centro mercantile, cinto da mura e 36 torri circolari; spiccano le rovine del Gran Palazzo, il primo ad essere scoperto nel 1949. Si visitano anche la moschea, le abitazioni, il Piccolo Palazzo e gli hammam.

Dans la plaine de la Bekaa et venant d'Homs vers Baalbek la ville d'Anjar abrite des ruines romaines assez intéressantes avec un petit coté "Pompéi".
Une ancienne grande cité avec de fines et majestueuse colonnes par-ci par-la et quelques cèdres du Liban bien caché du coté des thermes...
Mon conseil : Si possible à voire avant les temples de Baalbek pour ne pas être trop déçu par ces frêles colonnes qui semble si fragiles !

Auch wenn der ursprüngliche Platz nur ca. 50-60 Jahre in der Geschichte existent war, so ist er doch ein wunderbarer Ort, den man unbedingt an der syrischen Grenze besuchen sollte! Schöne, erhalten Kunstschätze kann man hier begutachten!

Nice place to visit. Guide gave good explanation of the history and description of the ruins . Cute little souvenir shop just outside. Toilets available too!

Mooie UNESCO plek. Goed bewaard/geconserveerd. Het was heel erg rustig, dus je kon alles om z'n gemak bekijken. Het is denk ik wel nuttiger met een gids. We deden het met een boekje wat wel een idee gaf, maar hier en daar onduidelijk was.

This UNESCO site is pretty high up with nice mountain views at a distance. It is also close to Syria. It is quite a big area so needed around an hour or more here. This city is founded in the 8th century. Some of the ruins are still pretty well preserved. Have to come earlier to beat the crowd.

The reason for my visit to Lebanon was to visit ruins and you cannot ignore these, right next to the Syrian border. This ancient city is reasonably well preserved and the visit is very pleasant for an hour or two.
