This building is thought to be the tomb of Fahim Khan, an attendant to Abdur Rahim Khan, during the Mughal period. The most notable feature is the blue and green glazed tiles on the dome. Restored to its former glory in 2020, it has sadly started to suffer from the infamous Delhi pollution and lack of maintenance. Some of the blue tiles have fallen off, while other parts have become discoloured. It sits in the middle of a roundabout, so it’s not possible to enter and it’s ringed by a metal fence anyway. My autos and taxis like to drive crazily round and round, so I often get a good all round view anyway.

The Sabz Burj a building right in the middle of the Sabz Burj Circle roundabout and thought to be a tomb (although there’s no tomb inside). The structure is mostly covered up due to renovation works, but walking around it you can see it’s an octagonal structure built using Central Asian influences, judging from the blue, green and red glaze tiles that’s exposed. I was only passing as it’s close to Humayun’s Tomb, otherwise I wouldn’t not go out of the way to see it until the renovations are complete.

This is an everyday sight. You can't miss it even if you want to, ofcourse if you're traveling from nizamuddin side to central delhi. Its bang on the way.
Its the gol chakkar of the area,
it's the merry go round for all the cars,
it's the circle of life for the traffic there,
it's the mixer grinder if you're stuck in traffic
It's the whirlpool that goes round and round
You can make centripetal force if you keep driving around
And you might even think you're lost, but alas, you're not, you're just at subz burj

Sabz Burj, meaning "Green Dome" is a octagonal tomb located at the roundabout/circle at the end of Lodhi Road, opposite Humayun's Tomb, and adjacent to Nizamuddin. It is a protected archaeological monument, conserved and maintained by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Presently the restoration work is in progress on site. The crown dome as well as Mughal tilework are being restored. The lawn around the structure are well maintained, clean and green.
The main dome at top is made of Blue tiles (although "Sabz" means "Green" as in "Sabzi"- Green leafy vegetables) and stone. The Blue dome is also popularly known as the Neeli ("Blue") Chhatri.
Some historians say that Sabz Burj tomb was constructed for Fahim Khan, who was an attendant to Abdur Rahim Khan during Mughal Emperor Jahangir, but some other historians opine that it was made in 1520-30 AD. The official board put by ASI reads 1520s AD (Refer to one the photo I have posted). Although, it is called and known as a tomb, but there is no grave of anyone inside the complex.
One of the historical landmarks and reflection of rich cultural heritage of India, Sabz Burj can be visited during the same trip as Purana Qila, Humayun's Tomb complex and Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia's Dargah. One can just see it from outside and click snaps while passing through the area.

This monument is currently being renovated. Although you get an idea of it’s grandeur it will be much more impressive when it’s finished. It’s a testament to the incredible history of Delhi that this beautiful monument is just in the middle of a roundabout, albeit right by the entrance to Humayan’s tomb.

This octagonal building is situated just across the road from the entrance from Humayun's Tomb, in a small circular garden, surrounded by railings.
We passed this building a number of times during our recent stay Nizamuddin, sadly due to reconstruction and restorative work we were not able to visit. Most of the structure was covered by scaffolding and tarpaulin, however the blue doom did protrude out. This did give the sense of the majesty and grandure of the building.
It is a protected archeological monument of Delhi.
It is rather ironic that the dome is covered in blue tiles, the translation of Sabz Burj means Green Dome.
