It is also known as Viceregal Lodge. This is old british constructed building which definetly looks amazing when you see it in person from outside. There is Rs.30 ticket to see it from outside while at inside there is museum which can be seen by paying separate ticket. The area and laws are very well maintained. At the enrty point there is a cafe where you can get some snacks and hot drinks. There is washroom facility just behind this cafe.
Please be noted that visiting this property needs good amount of walking and there are no sign showing way to property. Need to keep asking for direction to students and other staff who walks on this road.
One cannot take car inside the property as the road access is given only to the staff. One need to park the vehicle beside main road (where you wont get cha1llan)

Old place to visit heritage place .but missed to visit in side because of corana we missed to see inside the property will came bake while it's open

Visit to Advance study Shimla - Himachal Pradesh. It was a dream comes true moment for me. From long I was planning and finally succeeded. It Just beautiful Haritage just 4 Kms from ridge and shimla mall road. Old monument is surrounded by lush green tree and Majestic Himalayas
Visiting inside was not allowed, Might be due to it was closed for the day but the beauty all around was just awesome. Such peaceful lush green Deodar and Pine trees do add on on its beauty. Front Lawn was well maintained and have pure green grass no mark of dirt, Even we were stopped to walk upon. Initially we thought why would they stop us for walking in the lawn but later we realise that it might be mandatory to save it's beauty
It is a Beautiful Combination of Ancient monument which located in mid of the Jungle. So Many specimen of old architecture, Building foundation, Ancient time tracking system with the help of sun rays. Perfect example of planing of a building which is suitable for hilly weather around the years
Suitable time for Visiting is Summer season when you can spend your entire day around. No Hurry carry your snacks but be careful and contribute to Bharat Swachta Abhyan other wise you will punished.

Great architecture, kids enjoyed alot due to its resemblance with hogward magic school, but truly a marvel of Scottish architecture. This is Indian Institute of Advance Studies aka viceregal lounge( British era name) that selects only few scholars in the field of humanity and social sciences who reside there and that too without any faculty ,for independent research. Building is partially allowed for common people with 200 rs tickets for adults and 100 for kids .Only 3 halls can be visited , most lavish is the hallway near stairs , wood work is just amazing and so massive .Garden and outskirts are so beautifully created that features this place so distinct so one can easily believe the place is not in India or magical like hogwards of India. A Must visit place that is amazing for kids as well as adults..

We were in India for 10 days in early March 2019. Shimla Manali and Dharamshala exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Hotels we stayed in, or the places we visited. Thanks to North India routes for their planning selection of places and their hospitality. The guide & Driver and the vehicles they provided were outstanding. At every place we were provided with resourceful knowledgeable English speaking guide who were with us from the time of arrival at the airport to until departure . our visit was more memorable because of the hospitality and hassle-free arrangement by the Company. We highly recommend them if you are planning a trip to India -Shimla or Manali, and we would go with them on any of our future trips to India.
Thank you for making our trip and absolutely memorable one.

Scottish architecture - home of the Viceroy of India between 1884-1888. Known as Viceregal Lodge then. Functioning as a research institute since 1965 offering fellowship programs in the fields of humanities, social sciences, natural and life sciences.
I took a shared e-taxi at the end of the mall road to reach here. The institute campus is huge, had to walk a km from the main gate. Took a Guided tour of the institute which happens every hour or so till 5pm.
Photography isn't allowed inside the institute.
Architectural Design, interior work is just Wow. It has a unique fire fighting system, water harvesting system, it's the 1st electrified building of Shimla Scholars from across the globe apply here for research fellowship programmes. Only a few get selected at this prestigious institute.
As a tourist IIAS is a must visit place in Shimla, spending an hour here is totally worth.

Quite a majestic building with large lawn and back yard. The visit was quite an experience and the naratives given were informative. The interior of the building is very inspiring. Really a good pleace for people to do research.

Shimla was the summer capital of India during the British rule and this building was the residence of the Viceroy. This is the building where the discussions related to Independence and partition of India were finalized. Post independence, it became the summer residence of the President of India and during S. Radhakrishnan's time, it was converted into an institute of advanced study. Built in 19th century, this beautiful and majestic building had all the technology and facilities well ahead of its times like electricity. Immaculately preserved, this heritage building is a must see in Shimla

How the road conditions towards this Institute, if we are driving by car as roads are normally slope upwards in Hills? Will it be safe to drive? And how will be weather these days? Will it be sweaty trip?

The road particularly towards this institute is nice to drive. slope road upward but not at all risky. You can easily go by Car there. The weather currently in shimla is cloudy. You will enjoy there. But prefer to hire taxi and you just enjoy.

Sir, Please don't mind. This is not a hotel. This is an academic Institute for post graduate Fellowships for scholars and also a famous tourist attraction in Shimla. And there is no facility to stay here as it is not a hotel.....

Yes, the visiting time starts from 11 AM and closes by 2 PM as they have research scholars working there too. The guided tour is very informative from the Govt. of tourism where the guide explains everything in English and Hindi. But the tour is only with batches of 20-30 persons, so you need to take the entry ticket and wait for your turn to go inside the historical palace. Only the ground floor is open for tourists and photography is not allowed inside. The tour inside should be over by 45 minutes, one can enjoy the campus outside and take snaps and visit the souvenir shop.
