This your was amazing! We used a guide and strongly recommended that you do as well. Our guide spotted animals that we never would have seen without him. We saw sloths and frogs and birds and so many others and even learned about plants as well. Our guide clearly loved his job and knew so much about the area and the animals. It was perfect!

Sehr zu empfehlen, besonders der Guide William, wenn man viele Tiere sehen möchte und Erklärungen zu diesen haben will

Without our guide William, we would not have seen so many animals and especially the Tucan. Definitely worth the investment for the guide.

This sloth tour was AMAZING. Within the first 5 minutes we had already seen a sloth, and we saw more sloths and lots of other animals, too! Hire a guide, it is so, so worth it. We wouldn’t have seen any of the wildlife we saw without a guide. Our guide was Jason, and he was THE BEST.

OVERALL: Wow! Absolutely the highlight of our 1-week in Costa Rica (we went around La Fortuna, Monte Verde and Manual Antonio, and I loved this tour the most!). We saw such diverse wildlife that I've never seen before: three-toed and two-toed sloths, a pit viper, red eyed tree frogs, poison dart frogs, bats, butterflies, toucans, birds, and more! I would 100% recommend booking this tour. As a bonus, I was pleased because we didn't have time to do a night walking tour but were still able to see 3+ species of frogs, bats, and a snake that are all nocturnal! At the end, they cut us some lovely fresh pineapple, which you can enjoy near their check-in office that has many types of birds flitting around :)
TOUR vs. SELF GUIDED WALK: This is a VERY important question that I'm sure many other tourists will be considering, as we did. I could not emphasize more how our guide (Alex) made our experience MULTITUDES better than what it would have been without. (1) He provided a monocular that he set up perfectly so we could see many types of animals up close (sloths, bats, and toucans are always high in the trees) (2) The wildlife is VERY difficult to spot. Sloths do not move very much by nature, do not assume you can do this on your own (we couldn't!). However, the naturalists are trained to keep an eye out for them, and they also do a morning scout to find where the animals are in the park and help each other out to identify them throughout the day. (3) It's extremely important for safety to keep on the paved roads, I saw many self-guided people walking off the path because they didn't know what they were doing; I saw them playing with an extremely poisonous frog and poking him with a stick (horrible, I know); the guide however, can go off path. Our guide found a baby sloth on a marshy path that was too difficult for us to walk over to, but he helped take photos so we could see. (4) Photos!!! Unless you have a professional camera, most of the wildlife is extremely difficult to get any good photos of because they are so far. However, our guide took photos and videos through a monocular, and we got crystal clear ones! See attached. (5) Our guide also helped us by grabbing some wildlife (very safely, e.g. guiding a frog onto a leaf frond and bringing it over) so we could see more closely in some instances!
As a final thought, I saw some reviews online that said they did a self-guided walk and had a great time, and were able to traipse off a guided tour and see what animals they were spotting. Self-guided people had much difficulty spotting wildlife themselves and were walking around quite aimlessly, unless they could hear what another tour guide was saying. They were also unable to get amazing photos of the animals because the animals are very high in the trees; one asked me to AirDrop the photos I had taken with the help of my guide. All to say that the experience without a guide is not as great and that becomes obvious once you are there!

Bogarin Trail was so cool - highly highly recommend in La Fortuna and especially with a guide (ours was Alex who was awesome). Beautiful setting and we saw so much wildlife with Alex's help - sloths, frogs, toucans, snakes, and more. Great and convenient way to see a bunch of cool animals!

We had a great walk round this trail, guided by Alex, who was brilliant. He showed us lots of sloths (including a baby right by the trail) and told us loads of fascinating things about them, and also pointed out many other interesting things. The telescope let us see the creatures we were looking at with amazing detail and Alex was very patient letting us attempt to capture this with our photos. We learnt such a lot!
The entry wrist band gives you chance to come back again later that day or next day for free to see what you can see by yourself, which we did, and even with all we had been told we could still only find a fraction of the wildlife by ourselves. Really great tour - expensive but totally worth it.
Thank you Alex, we really appreciated the care you took to make the tour so interesting for us and answer all our questions.

This was one of the best excursions we went on during our trip! The guides have an obvious respect for nature. I would say that a guide is mandatory for the park as we wouldn't have seen 10% of the animals without him pointing them out to us. Alex was a very informative guide who answered almost every question we could come up with.

Really really nice place! If you’re kind of on a budget like me the self-guided tour is not expensive and if you walk slowly and silently you’ll see plenty of birds and other wildlife. The sloths are harder to spot but other people on the trail can point them out. There are plenty of them around! Bring binoculars. The bird feeding station is a nice place to rest for a bit. Also a good activity if you’re staying in town but don’t have a car because you can just walk there.

Hi there looking for a tour for 4 adults in the next 3 days. Do you have availability and how much please would it be? Thank you

I agree with everyone that a guide is worth the money. All the people working there were pleasant and helpful, a group of 4 people should not be a problem if you just show up. I’d go early, your admission is good all day, you could take a break (there’s a good food court type place nearby) and go back and wander around on your own.

We called the day of to inquire about a tour. They let us know the prices. They offered to have us book over the phone but we just let them know we were going to arrive in about an hour and ended up booking upon arrival. Highly recommend going with the guide to be able to see the wildlife.

You can show up minutes before any guided tour scheduled, but we recommend to save your space in advance since we work with small groups. Besides booking is free of charge!

We toured with Geovani over 12 yrs ago and loved his tour. He was an amazing bird guide and absolutely passionate about birds. I would love to contact him if we come again. Does anyone have his contact info? Thanks!

Agreed. They are very responsive. Not sure if they would give his personal information out specifically, but it seems that he is often there and I think he had a public email or social media page to reach him at.

Hello. Do I have to take the tour and pay $35 or I can just pay the general entrance fee $10 and tour on my own? Thanks

Get a guide for this tour! We thought we could do CR without a guide and finally broke down after many hikes of not seeing anything. This was my absolute favorite thing we did. The guide William was fantastic he showed us the blue jean frog, the red eye tree frog, 7 sloths and some caiman along with tons of birds. I can honestly say we would not have seen anything but maybe one sloth if we had been on our own. Also had great conversation about his life growing up in CR.

What is the best time of day to do this tour to see the most sloth activity? We'll be there the first week of September. Thanks!

We will be visiting in April and staying at Tabacon. Does anyone have any experience with getting transportation to the trail without a rental car. Assuming we can just take a taxi but just curious of others experience. Thanks!

You can ask at the Reception of Tabacon Hotel to call a taxi for you. We have many clients that have been doing that :)
