Beautiful, safe beach, great for swimming. Caroline Bay beach also allows dogs to run and play at a certain time of year.

If you park your car in the 1st lot there's a nice walk 4.2 km ~1 he along the Dashing Rocks Coastal walk. Pretty colored water and pleasant walk

We visited here recently while travelling the South Island. Main reason for visiting, I have a picture of my Grandmother taken approx 100 years ago on this beach. So it was kind of a trip down memory lane of the pic I have of her.
Lovely sandy beach to walk along, also a board walk type area also. It was a pity many of the tracks up from the beach were water logged and barely walkable.
Still a lovely spot and I am glad we visited.

The beach was small and next to a cargo dock. The dogs enjoyed the run on the beach, dogs not allowed on beach in Summer

Great place for a family. The boardwalk great for anyone on wheels. I walk this often. But see elder person's on ride ons, Mums with prams or little one on trikes with trainer wheels

A wonderful, safe open space with lots of activities open to you. A casual stroll, run or jog, look at the aviaries, well maintained gardens, paddle in pool for wee ones, skate, train on open days, boardwalk or on the sand. Appreciate historic photos of our forebears on the buildings, walk up to cafes via connecting stairs and lift option. Lots of parking for cars, buses and campers.

just loved it all can't wait until next year, fire works display was absolutely amazing. the entertainment and bands were fantastic.

Enjoyed the boardwalk and gorgeous beach. Lots of driftwood and the sand is so soft. The kids loved the beach.

Little Blue Penguins or Korora
There are currently several breeding pairs of Little Penguins at Caroline Bay where they nest among the rocks. The only place to see them is from the footpath on Marine Parade where the street and port lights make a great place for viewing.
Best time is just after dark when the parents come back from their day out fishing and the young ones come out of their nests to wait for them to arrive. As a volunteer keeping an eye on them when they come in and also to talk to the visitors I see them every week but still absolutely adore them! Come and have a look, it's free!

The Caroline Bay beach was at its best last summer and the swimming was fine. parking was very easy as the parking areas were spacious and well designed. The whole aspect of the coastal environment and surrounds was superb.

Yes. its all to do with extra sand arriving on the beach. It being sheltered by the harbour breakwater the sand settles there rather than being swept north
