When we were there we had to good fortune to chat with Steven. He really knows his railroad history and all kinds of fun facts. We had a blast learning so much from him and seeing the extensive railroad. Kid friendly.

Off the beaten path type of place. Local model railroaders have created a working historical summary for Ft Bragg with a focus on the railroads. To get to this facility, you walk west and around the Skunk Train station, cross the tracks and enter a rundown area of buildings. It is a small gem, and you don't need to be a kid to enjoy the trains.

The Mendocino Coast Model Railroad & Historical Society is an amazing work of volunteer craftsmanship located at the Skunk Train. Worth a visit!

They have indoor and outdoor areas of track laid out showing models of local rail history. The docents were very informative.

What a train set! Free but donations are welcome. Someone has put a lot of time and effort into this train set. Lots of working trains and details.

We read that there was a $5 admission to the museum, but they charged us nothing, and the guides told us some interesting stories about the history of the railroad. The museum has many model trains travelling along some very lengthy tracks, with scenic background. It's well worth a visit.

The model railroad museum is a must-see. In fact, it makes the high price of riding the Skunk Train all the more worthwhile. The volunteers were quite knowledgeable and gladly shared some history. Don’t miss the chance to attach your cell phone to the front of one of the trains and capture a 4 minute video of the model train museum ( and some cameos of yourself)! Great signs outside, too!

We had some time before our rail bike ride so we wandered over to the Model RR area which is tucked behind the main Skunk Train Depot. What a delightful surprise! Friendly docent & extensive model RR scenes depicting historical logging operations in the area. A nice find.

The exhibit is very detailed and tells the story of the redwood lumber business and the railroads. I never realized how much my wife enjoyed railroads before. Plus its a great place for children.
