We had a corporate event, and Matt Heron Fishing was setup to bring a great experience for our group. They split us up so that only 2-3 people per guide were headed out to separate parts of the area to fly fish. We were not fishing on top of each other at all - didn’t even see the others until we were back at the general store. The equipment was is great shape - rods, flys, waders, boots, etc. My group had Dan as our guide - very knowledgeable, patient, and great attitude. Before we even got started, I had issues with my boots being too small (I wore too many socks) - Dan gave me his boots right off his feet. We had a tutorial on land before we got the lines wet. Overall fantastic experience - I had never fly fished before and was able to catch a rainbow trout based on knowledge gained from Dan (or from his lucky boots). Highly recommend!!

My Dad and I had the pleasure of spending a full day fishing with Matt.!We had an excellent time to say the least. Not only is he the best fly fishing guide I have come across in my years of fishing, but he is a very friendly good soul who is passionate about teaching the beautiful art of fly fishing. Any season, any weather, any skill level, there is no one I would recommend more than Matt Heron.

Matt is an outstanding coach/instructor. He is great with finding great spots to fish. He’s professional and is very aware of a customer’s needs.

Had the most amazing morning with Jay, fly fishing on The Little Truckee river! My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and both love to fish, but were not experienced fly fisherman - booking with Jay was an excellent choice. He's very knowledgeable, patient, and fun to be around - he made our day very memorable, we learned so much - can't wait to come back!

Just finished a day with Matt and had a terrific experience. He tailored the day to what I hoped to gain from his depth of knowledge. I was able to learn various techniques on nymphing and even landed a giant brown trout after his guidance on Euro nymphing, which was my first attempt trying this technique. He is very interested in teaching and also provided excellent insights on all of the local rivers. Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club utilizes his guiding service for our members because of his excellent service, knowledge, and teaching. Thanks, Matt!!

My family gifted me a day of fly fishing with Matt Heron Fly Fishing. Even thought Matt has a number of guides working with his company, my friend Rich and I reserved a day on the Little Truckee with Matt. Although I had fished the LT before, I never had much success. That was until I went with Matt.
Not only did Matt put us on the fish, he was a great instructor and teacher on the intricacies of fishing those waters. I learned so much.

I am new to fly fishing and went on a half-day trip guided by Dan, it was a great experience, my girlfriend and I had an awesome time and learned a ton about fly fishing. Looking forward to another trip through Matt Heron Fly Fishing in the near future!!

I am new to Reno and have been wanting to try fly fishing! A group of my friends and I searched online and found this guiding company. We had Matt and J hosting us and they were AWESOME! Nice, informative and patient. Everyone in our group caught a fish and we were very happy. Super glad we found these guys and cannot recommend them enough.

My flyfishing experience far exceeding my expectations. As a lifetime learner, I am driven by an intense curiosity in everything I pursue. Matt consummately embodies a professional angler and naturalist. Affable, patient, kind, personable, and effective, Matt Heron didn't disappoint. After spending the day with him, I was impressed with his knowledge, skill, and very personal approach. I learned so much from him, and have every intention of retuning to fish with Matt. If you are looking for a professional who has the knowledge and skill to take you flyfishing - Matt is your man.

Matt has an excellent beginner flyfishing program in the Truckee/Tahoe area. Never touched a fly rod, but want to try? This is the program for you. I've known Matt for several years and brought two young boys (ages 8 & 11) visiting from Paris, FR to learn casting and fishing. The experience was beyond all expectations and we will likely see these two on the river 😁 (one has already fished the Truckee). Thanks Matt!
