This is a hard review for me to write. We actually love this park and it is a beautiful location. The main issue and reason I am giving it one star now is overcrowding. This park is a traffic and parking nightmare. In some areas if you aren’t at the park before 8AM you will not have any convenient parking. It makes the experience that could be wonderful, an awful one.

Mixed review on stay. Park has so much to offer for outdoor activities. However, compared to prior experiences at Cherry Creek State Park, we were very disappointed in the lack of cleanliness in the laundry area, Loop D campsite. Campground host was a family and their site was a mess. How hard is it to get creepy bug filled cobwebs out of the windows/ceilings in the laundry room. Filthy floors as well. Raise the bar here!

This is a beautiful park and sites are very spaced out. Very quiet and we loved the miles of trails right there in the park for bike riding. Wished we could have stayed a few more days longer.

Another gem in the Colorado State Park system. This is a large, beautiful park great for water sports, hiking, biking, and camping. Good signeage to guide you to the park. We camped for a week in our motorhome. Checkin was efficient. Interior roads are paved, wide and easy to navigate for any size rig. We were in site D188. We had full hookups. We had no issues with utilities and no problems getting level. Our site was full sun but other sites had mature trees for shade. Large sites with paved parking pad, crushed stone patio edged with timber, picnic table and fire pit. The grass around the patio is mowed, the rest is natural vegetation. Everything is well maintained. We had good WiFi and T-mobile signal. Laundry facilities for D loop were modern and clean. We particularly enjoyed the paved walking/biking trails throughout the park. We entered via the Plum Creek entrance (11500 N. Roxborough Park Road, Littleton, CO 80125) to avoid the low canopy at the Deer Creek entrance. Highly recommend this park.

Our 3 Whippets had a great time swimming (kind of, for Whippets). Nice people and dogs. Park Fee ($10) plus dog park but worth it; “kids” had a last.

We stayed here one night in early September while driving through the Denver area. Given that this park is on the edge of the metropolitian area, it is really very impressive. All sites have electricity (which we didn't need; wish they'd provide cheaper no-electricity sites for "simple campers" like us). The sites are faily well spaced, and bushes provide some privacy. Toilet, sink and shower facilities were convenient, clean and well-maintained. The reservation and check-in experiences were excellent. There was a positive, civlized vibe in the campground: no problems with noise or rowdy behavior. We enjoyed our overnight stay. (FYI: some campers seem to be living there long-term, and get up and leave early to go to work).

If you are looking for quiet Colorado, this is not it. Chatfield State Park is a heavily used, multi-use area with camping, boating, a model airplane park, hiking trails, a dog park, horse stables, and fishing. The park is nearly surrounded by urban sprawl and another housing development now touches the south boundary of the park. Animal habitat is severely threatened by the unchecked development. The reservoir has been expanded to accommodate the growing urban population. Campgrounds are nice, but typical of Colorado State parks you will pay a $10-per day entrance fee in addition to camping fee's. Showers will cost you .50-cents for 3-minutes. Expect a long wait to get in on the weekends. Overall, it's a nice park that is heavily used.

This park has an outstanding dog park that is fully fenced and includes a couple of ponds where your pets can swim. Plenty of parking. There is a $3 charge but there is a $25 annual option as well. Plenty of parking. Combination of paved and natural trails.

We visit all the time in the summer as the lake is very close to our house. Expect lines to get into the park on busy days. It’s pretty clean, has showers (bring change!), and a snack bar. My kids love it and there are lots of families. I don’t see too many loud adult groups here like there are at a lot of other lakes.

Is ther a fee for bicyclists to enter Chatfiled SP?

Hopefully there is a fee for anyone entering a Colorado State Park - they need the revenue.
Colorado State Parks do not get tax revenue (dumb idea) for operations - it all comes from fees.

kcbruder,
I was wondering if you can tell me if there is a way to purchase the quarters needed for showering? And if so, where?
Thanking you in advance,
Evy

There are change machines, but they (mulitple ones) were out of order when I was there. I recommend you bring your own.

We are looking for place with good scenery to SUP during our visit in July. We’d like an area where we can spend a few hours paddling and exploring. We are staying near Denver/Littleton. Is chatfield a good option or should we look into another state park/lake?

I would say Chatfield is a good option. I know they are doing some construction on roads, but I would go on the main lake and put in by the gravel pond or the swim beach. You can paddle around, there are some coves to explore (not too deep but good). You have a nice view of the hogback (large foothills) and you can find areas that are pretty quiet. Bear Lake State Park is another option, although the lake is MUCH smaller and would not be as quiet. I have not tried Cherry Creek State Park so I cannot speak to that area.
When's a good time to fish for walleye offshore at Chatfield Reservoir

Walleye feed at night typically, so early morning or late in the evening they would be in shallow waters. Daytime they tend to go deep.
Is alcohol allowed

Alcoholic beverages may not exceed 3.2% by volume at this park. It is not uncommon to see rules like this in the rules and regulations of state parks. IMHO be discrete and quiet and you should not have any problems.
Can you park a camper right by the water
Mike F
Denver, CO727 đóng góp
You can park by the east marina or west marina and be at the lakeside. There is also limited parking by the no wave lake for paddle boards and kayaks on the south side of Chatfield Reservoir. Overnight camping spots aren't far from the east marina.
