This was our first experience with genie + and lightning lane. It went pretty smoothly at Magic Kingdom. We were able to get on everything we wanted, except Jungle Cruise. However, I much preferred making my reservations ahead of time when staying at the resorts. It’s no fun to be tied to your phone during vacation. I also prefer Universals system of just getting in the line whenever you want and paying a higher price. Our Hollywood Studios experience was another story.

I must preface this by saying that we’ve done Disney (3 parks in a single day) 9 months ago.
I know…3 parks in a single day might sound insane, but we work efficiently and don’t wander aimlessly. We go straight for the things we want to do and leave. We’re also 2 solo people in our early 30s, so we’re not dragging around any kids who slow us down.
9 months ago (still in Covid era), we stood in very long lines (45-75 mins) and still had fun. Back at that point there was no lightning lane or “Genies” so everyone just lined up together in a single long line. Genies and LL were only re-introduced 2 months after.
This time around we wondered if she should get the VIP tour pass (which is about $10k) or if we should just try to go for regular Genies passes with lightning lane instead. We “cheaped out”, went for lightning lane/Genie and boy oh boy what a mistake!!!
Let me break down why:
1) Disney, at least in my opinion, is not doable in its current state
2) Whoever decided to do this lightning/genie+ setup is not great at creating good experiences
1. The rewards system is one of the most unnecessarily complicated systems ever and frankly sort of scammy. In order to get into lightning lanes you must be up at 7am on the Disney app. Then you must buy the genie service. Then you must be one of the lucky ones to grab a spot.
What they don’t tell you anywhere is that for pretty much all of the good rides’ lightning lanes you must also be staying at a Disney hotel. So if you’re staying at the four seasons or JW Marriot you’re apparently out of luck. You’ll find that out at 7am after you spent $$$ for the genies+ pass. The next crazy thing is that a lot of rides don’t even offer regular lines anymore. It’s lightning lane or nothing. So if you didn’t wake up, didn’t buy genies, didn’t get lightning lane, and didn’t stay at a particular hotel, you are dead on arrival. Even if you wanted to wait 60 mins in a sweaty line with 1000 annoyed and desperate parents, screaming kids and body odors...you actually can’t for many of the A+ rides across all parks. We got turned away from Guardians of the Galaxy and were told we can’t even wait at all unless we were approved on the app.
2. To whoever designed this system I simply ask…but why sir/ma’am? Why not just let me buy a lightning lane pass for $250 to go on any ride and call it a day? I would pay $500…$1000. I don’t care, just stop with the nonsense of downloading an app, buying genies and staying at a hotel full of screaming kids just to maybe qualify at 7am and if not then 9:30am and if not then 11:44am and booking rides hours in advance like I know where I’m going to be in 5 hours from now. At 9:30am we were told we need to wait until 11:44am to book spots for a 5PM ride. It’s taking a straightforward user experience and convoluting it beyond measure. I understand that someone just had a simple idea and then corporate got involved and it ended up being a sh*tshow but damn. To whoever pushed for this, you need a new job.
Basically, unless you do the private VIP tour I don’t get why you should go here at all and we will never go back again without paying the $10K for VIP

It should have been a fantastic, once in a lifetime experience for us. Rather than memories of rides and funs, we remember standing in queues. The time that you queue seems completely disproportionate to the time you get to spend on the rides. We left the park feeling like we had been ripped off and changed our planned second day there, doing something which involved more fun and less queues.

Lugar soñado para ir con los chicos.
En todo el día no se alcanza a recorrer todos los juegos y atracciones.
Conviene ver que se puede hacer con niños: Dumbo, Carrousel, Peter pan, Piratas del caribe, Small World.
Llevar agua y protector solar.
No perderse los fuegos artificales del final, a las 21hs

We had a great time! We went with a total of 9 people (2 families)—5 kids (ages 13-20) and 4 of us adults. My sister’s family were 1st timers.
Tips: Arrive at rope drop and pick which ride is most important. 2 areas are early entry areas (if you are staying at a Disney resort)—Fantasy Land and Tomorrow Land.
One tip I got was— Fantasy Land has the Mine Train ride and Peter Pan right there— we were able to do both rides within opening. If you prefer Space Mountain (also worth the wait—we went back and did that at night)—then go to Tomorrow Land first.
Another tip (from a cast member at the park) — Pecos Bill’s in Adventure Land—was great for lunch. Go in a get a table first—then order on the Mobile App and you get a text when food is ready and you go to the counter and pick it up. Place was air conditioned, food took 10 min. (and it’s usually an hour)— and it was delicious.
Another Tip—Genie + was a total waste. Every standard line we waited on said 50 minutes or more ( especially Pirates of the Caribbean) and it was never that long. 15 minutes!
One more tip— Do your research, plan ahead and bring your patience. We had so much fun!
For Disney reservations (especially with big parties)— mark your 60- days to make reservations on your calendar. Get 2 people to wake up early. 3am is when midnight hits in California on our 60 day mark and then online reservations are open to everyone. We had one person make a reservation for 5 and my sister made a reservation for 4 at the same time (making 9 of us). Then the week we arrived—we asked the restaurants to seat us together and they all accommodated. (Read that tip online for people with big parties). We got into all the hard ones—Ohana, California Grille and Morimoto Asia (Disney Springs)—All FANTASTIC!!!
Fun had by all—paying it forward by the tips I got, so I hope this helps another family. Have fun and Enjoy.

This was the first park we visited during our son's first trip to Disney and bc of that we were not very organized with our Lightening Lane picks. Missed some of the marquis rides (Peter Pan/Winnie the Pooh/Speedway) but did pick up some good ones (Small World/Buzz Lightyear/etc).
We were told later that it was the hottest day of the year to date for Orlando and we definitely felt it. Should have packed more water but luckily we were able to easily grab some in the park. Dont come to Disney without a portable fan, cooling towels, and plenty of water. A few people had purchased misting fans on amazon that seemed to work better than the version sold in the parks.

I need to begin this review by saying we are a Disney family! We have been here six times. The most recent was with my husband and adult children. The good news is that the place is still magical. But unlike our previous trips I felt like this trip had some glaring shortcomings. I thought that because of the new reservation system that parks would be less crowded than in previous trips. This was definitely not the case, We have visited at peak times in the past and didn't experience wait times like we did on this trip. We got to the parks for early entry and still found many of the rides had ridiculous wait times soon after the park opened. I couldn't imagine being there with small children and enduring the lines. The new Genie and Lightening Lane system had me longing for the old Fast Pass System. This new system is an additional cost on top of your paid park ticket and it is far less effective than the old system that was free. And don't get me started on why there are so few character greetings. Since we were there with adults it didn't effect us to any great extent. But please don't say you don't have character greetings and characters at meals due to covid concerns. Disney is not concerned about covid. There are no protocols in place so why have they not brought back characters greetings in the parks? I know that Disney is not an inexpensive vacation choice, but we found that to be even more the case on our last visit. The price of everything seemed over the top even by Disney standards. I still feel like the Magic Kingdom is the happiest place on earth , but be warned it seemed to be more crowded and more expensive than it was on any of our previous visits.

It was our second visit with family . What a fantastic place for young and old , with sunshine to be enjoyed . Our grandchildren aged nine and five could take it all in this time , daily parades and firework display were superb . Plenty of walking to be done but we’ll worth it and some amazing rides for all of us .The Falky family Leeds

Post pandemic 2022 is it still possible to buy a 1 day/2 day Park Hopper ticket for Disneyworld or Universal Studios? So much else to see & do in Orlando don't want to tie up our time and money on 7 day get 14 day ticket. Have been many times before the kiddies came along but really only want to go to MK & AK. Thank you.

Honestly, i’m not sure. I certainly seen ‘day passes’ at the ticket offices and i’m sure there must be something in place. One thing I do know is that for Disney, you have to book your theme parks in advance (Covid numbers etc). You need to download the Disney app and it is essentially your diary. I think you can park hop eventually, but not until after 2pm. With Covid restrictions getting lighter this again could change.

Hi,
It's our first time visiting Disney and we are wondering if the options to get around the parks (bus, monorail etc) are all free? We are not staying on site.
Thanks

Atlanta, GA129 đóng góp
Hi, if you are not staying on site, you will either need to use your own car or your hotel shuttle (assuming they have one) to get to the park on the day that you already have a reservation. I was just there in December and saw where some people actually used Uber service to the park. Once you arrive, you may use the Disney transportation system (bus, monorail, ferry boat); it is free but some transports can't be used to get you directly to each park. For example, you can use the monorail to take you to the following stops: Magic Kingdom park and about 4 different resorts. If you desire to go to any other parks you will need to get off at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) stop and transfer; e.g., you will need to transfer to the Epcot Monorail to get to Epcot.
The water transportation system (boat and ferryboat service) works similarly by providing service to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Disney Springs and select WDW resorts. Certain destinations are not direct and you’ll need to take a connecting mode of transportation to reach your final destination.
Whichever mode you choose to use, please check the times of service and plan accordingly. Most are available about 30 minutes prior to park opening and stop operating about one hour after park closing. Enjoy your visit!

Hi , does anyone know if restrictions are still in place for meet and greets ??? Also are character's signing autographs ??
And are face masks required in the parks ??
Thank you in advance

Face masks only required on transportation but not in the parks.
No autographs! Meet and greets are only allowed with 6 foot distance . Characters are behind ropes or too far away. Not all characters are visible either. Only a select few.

Hi, what is the average wait-time to rent a stroller at Magic Kingdom? Do you have to stand in a long line to rent one? Or is it a quick and easy process?
Ang B

I would expect a pretty long line. Magic Kingdom is 20% walkers and 80% riders in strollers lol. If you are flying and don’t want to bring your own there are other options besides renting at the park. There are services (not run by WDW) where you can rent a stroller, wheelchair or scooter for your length of stay and they deliver it and pick it up at your hotel.

It’s a bit hard to know what 2022 offerings will be, but in 2021 they had an “after hours” party that required special tickets to attend. They had a Halloween-themed cavalcade during the day, mixed in with the other parades.
