The ship is beautiful and the cruise offered fantastic views. We took the sunset cruise and it was truly breathtaking. We have 2 18 year olds and they both gave the experience an enthusiastic thumbs up. The Captain and crew went out of their way to make the trip fun and comfortable. They also pointed out the sights and wildlife; we spotted dolphins swimming by the ship. This was one of our favorite St. Augustine experiences; we highly recommend it.

So I have done these types of cruises for years and this one was by far the best! Captain Evan, Daisy, and Mackenzie had the best hospitality ever. They were cheerful, dutiful, personable…all the things. They were engaged in the passengers, taught us about sailing, and seemed to really enjoy what
They are doing. This was the highlight of our trip to St. Augustine! Would recommend this short trip on the Schooner Freedom sailing to everyone.

We booked a sunset sail during the Night of Lights festival. This was an amazing, true five star experience. The crew was fantastic. Super friendly, very attentive (even though they were also very busy sailing the boat). The sunset and lights were beautiful! It was a perfect evening. They also provide complimentary beverages while onboard which was a nice touch. This was probably the best vacation boating experience I’ve ever had.

This sail was the highlight of our trip. Downtown St Augustine is so crowded, it can feel like Times Square or Disney. This sail takes you away from the hustle and bustle, to explore historic St Augustine, Castillo and Night of lights from the magic of the water. The sail boat was surprisingly stable and dry! They offer refreshments and blankets and amazing views! We saw dolphin and experienced the sunset followed by the beautifully lit up sights of downtown St Augustine. This is a great sail for all ages. Captain Jack and crew were knowledgeable, hardworking, friendly and happy! A positive experience for all 6 of us! Thank you!!!

We went out on a sunset cruise and it was a perfect ending to a beautiful day. We appreciated the complimentary beverages that graciously served throughout the entire cruise. The crew was incredibly attentive and Captain Jack ran a “tight ship”! This was a last minute decision and worth every cent.

We simply love cruising the harbor, and out to sea if lucky, on this schooner. We love being under sail without the noise of an engine and only the wind to power us. This trip we decided to take the full moon cruise and unfortunately the clouds covered it up about 15 minutes after moonrise. Regardless, the soft live music and the sights of the city make for a magical moment. We spent time talking with the crew, especially Jack who is a part of the family that owns the boat. Captain Steve was engaging, and Mckenzie was also very nice and attentive. We were lucky enough to run into the owner, Captain John and his wife(probably the real captain) :) afterwards and that was nice. Taking a cruise on the Schooner Freedom is something we do every annual trip to St. Augustine, and this year was just as nice as usual! We will be back!

Had a FANTASTIC time on the Freedom Schooner the other night! We took the two hour 6:45 sail and it flew by. Was concerned it would be hot but the breeze on the water was perfect. The captain and crew couldn't have been nice and more informative. It's a great deal as the price includes soft and alcoholic beverages and water. Thanks to Captain Steve, Mikayla (sp?), Daisy and Landon. Much appreciated!

I always have the best time on the Schooner! Such a beautiful boat with an even better crew. Definitely the best way to see St. Augustine from the water!

A sail on the Schooner Freedom is always on our family’s list when visiting St Augustine. There’s truly no better way to appreciate the beauty and history of this magical city from the water. Freedom’s crew is friendly and attentive, but not overbearing…welcoming you with complimentary drinks and suggestions of what to see/do if you’re visiting, or allowing you space to simply breathe in the salt air and “just be” if you prefer. While day sails are often entertaining with playful dolphins and beautiful scenery for our kids, us “grown ups” find evening sails to be the most relaxing, watching vibrant colors of the sunset fade as the lights of the city start to glow. It is truly an enjoyable, yet peaceful, experience you should check out if ever visiting St Augustine!

Does the cruise go on rain or shine?

I am not certain, but believe that they would go out in light rain with ponchos. However, a thunderstorm or hard rain would likely = cancel and re-book. You would probably have to call them to me certain of the official policy.

Do people ever get seasick on these sails? We are considering a family day sail the end of June.

It would depend on if you have ever been affected by motion sickness and also the conditions while sailing ... we experienced a very smooth lovely sunset sail but I imagine in rougher waters it could be quite rocky . If prone to motion sickness I would suggest taking some sort of motion sickness medication prior to sailing .

Are there restrooms on this boat? Also, would a six year old girl enjoy it?

Yes, there is a "head" below deck and I think a 6 year old would love it. She would probably get to help unfurl the sails. We say dolphins so that would be cool for her as well. It was one of the highlights of my trip.

Is the schooner accessible to someone who travels by wheelchair primarily but can walk a bit with assistance.
Sydney
St. Augustine, FL
Hello!
Yes, we are accessible for that situation. I would recommend bringing the wheelchair to use to get down to the boat, as we are at the end of the dock. Once you reach the boat, there are 4 wide, household sized steps up to the boat with a short 1 inch gap over to the deck. We have 2 crew members there to help you on board. We can then store the wheelchair either in the office or below decks on board.
Thanks and we hope to set sail with you soon!

How good is this cruise for a couple with bad knees? We cant stand for a long period of time or do too many stairs!
Sydney
St. Augustine, FL
Hi Terri!
We have cushioned bench seating for everyone on board, so you do not need to stand on board. To get up to the boat, there are four stairs - they are wide stairs with handrails on either side, so I think that you should be fine!
Thank you so much for your interest in the Schooner Freedom and we hope to set sail with you soon.

Where does the trip take us during the two hours?
Sydney
St. Augustine, FL
Hi Kim B! Whether you chose a Day Sail, Sunset Sail, or a Full Moon Sail, we can promise you one thing – we will sail our pants off! The Freedom is a traditionally rigged schooner and we take extreme pride in sailing her and sailing her well. We hate the hum of the engine and we won’t use it if it’s humanly possible. We burn a gallon of diesel an hour and we average less than 3/4 of a tank per trip = we are lean, green sailing machines! Since our objective is sailing, we don’t have a set path – it depends entirely on the wind, weather, and current at the time of the sail. Our options for sailing are north or south along the Matanzas River, offshore in the Atlantic Ocean, or north on the Tolomato River - each trip is different. I hope this answers your questions!
