Had a lovely time walking round Pendleton Hill, we only did a little walk, maybe 30 minutes because we were short on time but there were sheep roaming about and a lovely view. Would definitely recommend a proper hike.

Went from the pretty village of Barley up the stone staircase. Had to have a few stops on the way as it's pretty steep so would recommend good walking footwear. Would imagine it would be slippy and quite hazardous in damp/ wet weather. The views from the top are worth the hike as it's stunning, you can see for miles( although we didn't see Blackpool tower!) The track down is a little easier as it's more winding than going up but lovely views all the way down.Glorious day.

Went up from the Sabden side starting at the NOP point. It was a much nicer experience than the Barley side. It took about 2 hours to summit with moors and a surprise river walk before reaching the steps for the final part. ( cross point at the river was quite high, feet got wet) . The weather can be very changeable so even though it’s not very challenging physically you still need to come dressed for all eventuality. Sabden village is a much nicer post summit village with two nice pubs and not as busy as Barley

Great walk which I've done many times. I prefer to start it at the Nick of Pendle and walk it that way all the way over the top to the trig point. It's a bit challenging to walk up from the steep side up the stone staircases at my age now. I prefer the longer gentler approach. Make sure you wear suitable boots and a warm jacket as the weather can change on a sixpence up there from nice to high winds or whiteout fog. Do not attempt it in a pair of Crocs like someone has then moan :)

A good walk, muddy along the route before you get to the bottom of the steps. There is a little hut at the bottom that you can buy drinks and sweets from for the hike up.
Beautiful views along the route and a slower route downwards where their are no steps. Walking shoes or boots recommended.

The paths were quite steep (especially when going down) otherwise all good. Dog friendly. Though the is a slight risk that your dog may pull you down the side of the hill.

Not suitable for Crocs. Well, what can I say. It was too steep, and very hilly throughout. The walk was long, longer than I expected from what is inaccurately described as "a hill"! When I got to the top, there was nothing to do, or see as it was foggy. There was no sign anywhere near the bottom of the "hill" to suggest it would be foggy? We couldn't find a cafe anywhere, or anywhere we could buy a drink. I was lucky I had brought some mint cake, otherwise we could have starved up there. As previously stated, the view was poor. When the fog did eventually lift, all we could see for miles was grass and other hills in the distance. Not sure where the "so called witches" lived up there, but there were no signs of anything. Really disappointed tbh, we couldn't find anything to do up there at all. People with cameras were taking photos of grass for goodness sake!! Don't waste your time, it's just a big lump on the floor, takes ages to get up, then ages to get down again, and my feet got wet.

We walked up from The Nick of Pendle, it's a longer walk to the top but it is a much steadier climb. The other benefit is you get views on the way up and down you don't get from just blasting up the short steep path.

We are two not particularly fit middle-aged parents with teens but this walk was fantastic. We walked from the car park in Barley up the steps and down the slope (route clearly marked), which took about 2 hours. We were lucky enough to visit in glorious Spring sunshine on Good Friday. The area was very busy but we arrived mid/late morning and found a space in the car park (which is very cheap at £3 for the whole day*). Other cars had parked on the street - some of them very inconsiderately.
*We would recommend that the parish council increase the price, leaving them with more funds to operate/clean the toilets.
The walk up the steps is quite steep and required some pauses. The route down is a little slippy on occasion (I fell over). Walking boots are definitely recommended. A whole cross section of people were making the walk, from young to old. It was a lovely vibe. The view from the top is stunning - a complete panorama. We were able to see Blackpool Tower.
There are at least a couple of pubs in which to eat in the village; a lovely little cafe in the car park and a couple of places to grab a bite/drink on the way up.
Would definitely return if in the area.

If you are going up the hill via the sharp end which is a very steep climb many park on the side of the road just out of the village of Barley and walk along the track before heading up the path to the top. But if you are going to take the longer, much less steep route you can park off the road heading past the Wellsprings Restaurant.

Hi, We are here on 18 August for less than a day. We are wondering how long of a walk/hike it is up Pendle Hill. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy, and we have a few hours til sunset today, which is dry. Would love to know how long of a hike (however steep it is) up Pendle Hill.

Hi Ellen T! It would take up to about 2 hours to get up pendle and another 2 hours to get down but it would take longer if you love great scenery
