We were staying in Congress Plaza hotel so we walked several times there as it located between the hotel and Lake Michigan waterfront. For a city where every piece of land is gold for the developers it's fantastic that they keep it. In the middle is famous Buckingham Fountain where people can sit on many benches watching the water shooting in the high or it's illumination and music in the evenings. There is beautiful rose garden with a few statues. I loved "Art on the farm" section which point to the importance of urban gardens. You can spend the whole day there relaxing, walking, watching people, buying snacks and drink in the kiosks, there are also restrooms, simple it's ideal urban green space in the busy city.

This is one huge park . Highlights in its borders are a planetarium and an aquarium. Of course there is an amphitheater and an art museum. Finally there is that wonderful Lake Michigan and that lovely Buckingham fountain. Some gardens are nearby as well . Be ready and be prepared to walk , particularly in that searing heat .

South of Millennium Park is a vast park on Lake Michigan. It is on the way from the museum to the aquarium and planetarium, so there are many tourists in the summer. Buckingham Fountain in the park is a photo spot. However, it is only cold during winter, so no one goes there.

Grant Park isn't the largest urban park in Chicago but it is the most popular, daily attracting thousands of locals and tourists who crave to see some of the city's most spectacular attractions. Located within Chicago's central business district, it is bordered by on the north by Randolph Street, on the south by Roosevelt Road, on the west by Michigan Avenue and on the east by Lake Michigan. It contains performance venues, gardens, art work and sporting and harbor facilities, including Millennium Park, Lurie Garden, The Bean, Maggie Daley Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, Buckingham Fountain, Petrillo Band Shell, Congress Plaza, Children's Museum, Hutchinson Field, Court of the Presidents and the Museum Campus. Often referred to as "Chicago's front yard," It was designated Lake Park when opened in 1844 but was renamed Grant Park in honor of the Civil War hero and U.S. President in 1901. it covers 319 acres and features a great deal of sculpture and other public art, including statues of Abraham Lincoln and General John A. Logan and Agora, the most puzzling of all with 106 headless, armless figures, each standing nine feet tall and weighing 1,800 pounds and made from a hollow, seamless piece of steel. A section of the 18-mile-long Chicago Lakefront Trail runs through the park's eastern edge. Monroe Harbor, home to the Chicago Yacht Club and the Columbia Yacht Club, provides mooring space for 1,000 boats. And Queen's Landing, at the center of the harbor and park's shoreline, is named for a 1959 visit by Queen Elizabeth II aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, in conjunction with the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Grant Park in downtown Chicago is a huge green space that offers so much. It is a great place to just stroll, jog, bike or just relax. In the center of the park is the beautiful Buckingham Fountain which is a Chicago Landmark. Illuminated at night with the Chicago skyline behind is a stunning sight. Grant Park is also home to the world-famous Art Institute of Chicago and nearby is the Museum Campus which includes the Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium. Millennium Park with the much-photographed Bean (Cloud Gate) is adjacent. You can also cross Lakeshore Drive for a great walk along Lake Michigan and the views of the Chicago Skyline throughout the Park are amazing. Grant Park is also the home of Lollapalooza which happens every summer on the first weekend of August. It's an amazing music festival with 4 days of bands playing on 8 different stages.

Grant Park is Chicago’s front yard. It’s where the city goes to play, relax, enjoy the fresh air, and escape from the concrete jungle. Grant Park is an approximately 313-acre swath of green space that starts at the eastern edge of the Loop and stretches down to the South Side. Not sure if the Museum campus comes under Grant Park or not, but it's only a 10-minute walk from here. At the heart of Grant Park is Buckingham Fountain. One of the largest fountains in the world,
in fact, every attraction in Chicago comes under the loop. we were there for 2 days and walked 42 KM in days and covered every attraction Chicago offers.
it is a nice green space for a stroll. you can admire superb views of downtown Chicago from here. Grant Park is open to visitors every day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission to the park and Buckingham Fountain is free,
Millennium Park also rubs elbows with the northwest corner of Grant Park).

A large city park, planned in 1839, designed, built and dedicated by 1844, Grant Park spreads over 319 acres (1.29 sq. km) of land between the downtown area of Chicago Loop and Lake Michigan. Originally, the park was named Lake Park, and in 1901 it was renamed to honor Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the US (1869 -- 1877).
The vast grounds of the park include Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain, Art Institute of Chicago, and Museum Campus -- Field Museum of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium.
The park grounds look beautiful. The landscape design by architect Edward H. Bennett was done in a beaux arts style of French landscaping principles: the symmetrical space in the park was well defined by paths and plantings. Over time, the park became decorated with various sculptures and installations.
Nowadays, the park is crossed by wide boulevards between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive, there's an underpass to Lake Shore and Lakefront Trail. To get to different parts of the park, pedestrians need to use traffic crossing. For us, the easiest way to explore the park was walking south from Millennium Park on pathways parallel to Michigan Avenue. By the way, the whole circuit of the walking paths in the park is estimated as 4 mi (6.4 km). One can easily spend half the day in this huge urban park!
An interesting feature in Grant Park are commuter trains, that were placed to run through the park under street level, thus making the access to the park easier for public.
Grant Park hosts many annual cultural events -- music festivals, Chicago Jazz Festival, Lollapalooza, and also serves as a neighborhood park for baseball games, tennis, walking, jogging. Currently, the grounds of the Grant Park are going through restoration, but the park is open to pubic. Our visit to Grant Park was very enjoyable, it is a nice place to be on a warm summer day in a large, busy city!

What are the closest hotels to the park and river/lake in reasonable walking distance?
Đã viết vào 15 tháng 6, 2019
There are many great hotels within a walking distance to the park, lake, and river. Raddison Blu is a famous building itself and is about 5 minutes walk to the park and river, 10-15 minutes walk to the lake. Hyatt Regency Chicago on Wacker Dr. is also nearby. Other nearby hotels include London House (newly renovated in a historic building), Fairmont Chicago, Embassy Suites in River North, Sheraton in River North, Homewood Suites. If you search any travel reservation website, try zip code 60601 - an area within a walking distance to the park, lake, and river. Enjoy your visit!

No problem walking dogs on a leash. It was common to see them and their owners enjoying the walkways. You will notice certain areas of the park seem to attract more visitors, in fact, lots of them. Avoid those areas and use the paths in the southern area of the park.

We will be staying at the Wyndham Grand resort in Chicago and I see that Millennium Park appears to be in walking distance. We will be there when the weather is 40-50 degrees, but I know that it is colder by the lake. How far is it to walk to the other end of the park to see Buckingham Fountain? On the Chicago Parks website, it shows that the fountain is open now, so we'd like to see the water or water/light display. Walk? Drive? Where to park the car? Any suggestions?
Đã viết vào 17 tháng 3, 2016
I would definitely suggest walking. You seem to be close enough and if not, as stated there are buses. be careful with the number 10 bus however as it only runs express to the science and industry museum after a certain stop. If you are within walking distance to the bean, you can be at the fountain in another ten to fifteen minutes.
