Joey and crew were amazing. Put us on big tunas and they worked their ass off. All around a standup crew. Can’t thank these boys enough. Highly recommend!

We booked a Tuna fishing trip with Captain Joey of Relentless sport fishing only because our original charter backed out at the last minute so we took what we could get, big mistake. We arrived at the boat on time. Joey did not. He was 15 minutes late. While the other boats were leaving Joey showed up not only late but on a hang over !! If I spent $1800 on you I expect you to be alert and at your best not fresh off a bender. Other reviewers have said the exact same thing so he has a history of doing this. We went out about 2 hours to catch our bait. 3 other boats were already there because we left late. After a while the other boats pulled off. It turns out their weren't enough bait there. We traveled about 30 more minutes to the 2nd bait site. The other boats had their bait and were pulling off to fish when we arrived . We saw them catching fish while we were still catching bait. When we finally started fishing we caught 2 good tuna and the bite was over. We moved. The whole time Joey was on the radio talking to his buddies instead of paying attention to trying to find us fish, which other reviewers have stated he did with them too. The whole day he looked terrible from his hangover. He was not prepared for this trip. He brought no food that I saw or drinks for himself. We met another boat who threw him a sandwich and he drank our drinks. I didn't mind him drinking my drinks at all but it shows how unprepared he was. We traveled a while to a 2nd spot , no fish. While traveling to a 3rd spot he saw the boat of one of his buddies who was fishing. Joey headed his boat right towards the other boat at a high rate of speed. He got so close it was scary. He veered off at the last minute swamping the other boat , he laughed. It was not funny at all. If I'd been a fisherman on the other boat I'd have reported him to the coast guard or marine police when I returned. While traveling , again, he turned this filthy disgusting F- bomb Mother F bombed laced rap music on the loudspeaker. One of our guys ask him to turn it off. 3rd spot no fish. Joey decided to go for sword fish. One problem , He didn't bring squid bait. Again not prepared. So he meets up with another buddy and he throws us a squid. Joey then starts complaining that the squid was too big and we wouldn't catch a sword fish on it. Well, If He'd came prepared and not stayed out all night on a bender we'd have the right bait. We traveled for a long time. When we finally did fish we got no bites. The other boats were catching sword fish. Joey then told us to bring in the lines and we headed in. To be honest some of our men drank heavily all day and really didn't care about fishing at this point so I imagine Joey knew this and really didn't care to stay out for us that hadn't been drinking and wanted to fish. I bet we fished perhaps maybe 2-3 hours at the most the entire trip. Our original Captain had told us to expect fuel to be $800- $1200 but to count on $1000. When Joey fueled up the cost was a whopping $1475 !! Why the extra almost 1/3 in fuel ? You tell me. I'm not accusing anyone of anything but perhaps it's a good idea to check the fuel gauge before you leave on any charter that your paying the gas on before you leave. Joeys boat has no way to use the bathroom. He told us to just pee off the back of the boat which is where your bean bag chairs that you ride on are stored. So your sitting on bean bags that have had pee splatted on them for who knows how long. Shouldn't your boat have at least a small camping toilet or at least have a pee bucket? Our Trip to Venice was good just to get away with friends but the fishing on Relentless sport fishing and with Capt Joey was terrible and a waste of our hard earned money.

We originally booked through Home Run Charters but they had a business interruption and rebooked us through Relentless. The week leading up to our fishing day (Saturday October 8th), we began to get calls from our captain describing the "high winds" expected for Saturday which contradicted most weather and fishing report sites. Our group is comprised of seasoned deep sea fishing enthusiasts who have been through a wide variety of boats, weather conditions, and swells.
The calls / texts kept the same tone through the week up to the day of our arrival (Friday) indicating a high probability we would not be in the hunt for yellowfin - the advertised jewel of Venice. The morning of the trip, the captain was late and clearly had no desire to be there at all. He waited to tell us that his boat had a mechanical issue until we were in the marsh heading out - a problem that would rectify itself after some tweaking but a problem nonetheless. Not a big deal at all honestly.
He caught bait pretty quick which was excellent and then we headed out. He continued to mention we would not be attempting to catch yellowfin as they were a bit further out and he was worried about us "getting stuck" due to a 15 mph North wind (in a 36' foot yellowfin with 3X Mercury engines). We are a pretty rational group and had the options been presented to us maybe we could have discussed things like adults and came to a compromise (more on this later). My favorite comment of the day was "Yeah for what y'all are going to do with it, blackfin is just as good as yellowfin - you can't tell the difference."
We got into some blackfin here and there but finally got into a good school. Soon after this, he called a couple other boats over - no problem with this as we understand they all have relationships to maintain. We stopped catching as the other boats arrived and I guess that was when he decided we were done (this was about 3.5 hours of fishing / 5 total hours for an advertised 12 hour day). He indicated we would try to hit a shrimp boat on the way in as we began heading back to fight Hurricane Katrina force winds. I have certainly been further out, in a smaller boat, in way worse seas - it was fine.
As we came upon a shrimp boat, the captain announced that we were just going to head in because a bunch of other boats are there. It was obvious we had no say in the matter and at this point, we were honestly just fed up with the negativity and lack of passion.
We returned the marina only to see those additional boats come in with fully stocked coolers of blackfin (most of which they caught at that final shrimp boat) and one boat that came back with 2X ~110lb yellowfin that they caught 60ish miles out. Interesting.
After the trip, the captain only addressed us one final time to ensure we paid the gas bill.
So to the owner of this company and to the captain, we paid the full price for certainly about 20% effort. While we were fine to do this having caught 10 blackfin for 6 people, you should appreciate we only get to do this once per year and have to plan it very far in advance. While it may not seem a lot to you, we spent our hard earned money and time to drive over there and enjoy a nice weekend. I'm sure that when we aren't a last minute obligation, the service and passion are a lot higher. I can tell the captain was knowledgeable but we unfortunately didn't get to experience it.
The deckhand was excellent and worked his rear off but I could tell he was irritated at our frustration - we get it, man but see above.

*****This is not the same Relentless Sportfishing, it's under new ownership since 2017****
This trip was a bucket list item for all six fisherman who came with. We had folks from Wisconsin, Florida, Seattle, and Louisiana. We've all been fishing for most of our lives, but never for yellow fin tuna. The captain arrived 1.5 hours late. Asked us to be ready to leave at 6:15am and didn't pick us up until 7:45 am. When he finally arrived he never even introduced himself to us. He told us that he had motor troubles and in the process of trying to resolve the issue that he'd gotten sick. He proceeded to sleep on a bean bag chair until 2pm in the afternoon, relying on the skipper to captain the boat. To all those involved it was clear that he showed up drunk and was unable to do his job. He even admitted to drinking a bunch of Tito's the night before, but blamed it on bad chicken in his gumbo!
We did about two drops on each spot and headed to a new spot, which seemed to be a ploy at making it seem like he was working for his money. Instead he ended up driving us all of the gulf and racking up a $1300 gas bill (160 gallons). I had word of mouth that Relentless was good from a colleague but they went 10 years ago prior to the business being sold to Captain Joey. Do not use this service. Do your research and go with a different captain. Voodoo has a great reputation and about the same price.

Captain Joey gave my family and I an unforgettable fishing experience that we will never forget! We caught a limit of tuna and even a bonus swordfish towards the end of the day. I highly recommend this carter for a great time and will definitely be coming back with more friends and family.

Choose a different charter! The captain showed up over an hour late, told us that there were boat problems when he was just drunk/hungover, he was puking the entire trip and laying down while the deck hand drove. He took us all over the gulf and racked up a $1,300 gas bill. He was just driving platform to platform so he could sleep on the deck. We were supposed to have a 12 h trip and in addition to be late, he came back in early. Our total trip ended up being 9.5 h and we spent ~9 h of that time on a boat ride. We had people come in from Seattle, Wisconsin, and Florida for this trip as a bucket list item. It was so disappointing. Any positive review you see for this charter was pre-2017 before this captain owned the charter. Book with someone else, even if it's a couple hundred dollars more expensive.

What a awesome trip. Captain Joey took us out for tuna. None of the boats were catching any tuna at all. Everyone was struggling. While everyone was trying to catch tuna Capt Joey said we need to run to the next ship and get a different kind of live bait. I told him you the captain do what u do. So we fired off to a drill ship in the distance. Pulled up and everyone had a bait pole in hand and started cast for bait fish. We sat there try to get as much live bait as we could. When your on a charter trip you keep watching the time and time was running out. Captain Joey kept telling us to get more bait. Everyone on the boat was wide open. My son and the deck hand was running back and forth to the live well with bait. I kept looking at my watch and on every charter trip we ever went on at 3 pm you are heading back in so I’m starting to panic to my self. The captain said we got enough bait so we put the poles up and shot back to the platform where we was marking all the yellowfin tuna. We got back and started fishing and it was almost 3 pm with no fish. One by one all the other charter boats would head in with no fish. 3 pm got there and it’s just us with captain Joey and we had no tuna at all. In fact every other boat went in with no tuna at all. So I’m telling my self well any minute he will say we have to go in. It would of been ok cuss we still had a blast. He had us laughing all day and they took really good care of my son. Well 3:30 pm comes around and we are still there and the tuna would not come up. I’m standby captain Joey and I tell him well that’s y they call it fishing. He looked me right in the eyes and said no we will get your son his first yellowfin tuna. I’m like ok man I new that every other character I had been in we would be gone by then with no fish. 3:45 hits and we make a set and put out a bunch of free live bait and 2 with hooks and all of a sudden big yellowfin we’re blowing out the water bam we hooked up. Gave the pole to my son and got his first big yellowfin. It went crazy Capt Joey spun the boat around and made another set bam tuna busting everywhere hooked up on 2 grabs another pole hooked a bait an put it out bam hooked up on 3 at one time. Got all 3 in the boat. He turned the boat around again put the bait out in 3 seconds the big yellowfin were flying out the water hooked one hook 2 hooked 3 I grabbed a tac 50 and put a live bait and put it out bam I’m hooked up on the 50 4 yellowfin tuna hooked ant one time. Got them in and set again it was crazy and it was getting late net then u no we have 12 yellowfin tuna on the boat. My son was freaking out every one screaming high 5 cutting up I told captain Joey let’s go home. He said that’s enough I said look at the smile on my son face let’s go home. Quickly was the blood off the boat and we was on our way back in. Kicked back on my beanbag on the way in thinking if captain Joey would of done like every other captain that day and would not of given us that extra 1.5 hr we would of had nothing at all. It was truly a trip of a lifetime and it was all because captain Joey new what to do and he went way beyond what he had to fir us to catch all them big yellowfin tuna. He could of told us times u let’s go but the man told me we getting your sons first yellowfin tuna. We roll up at the dock and it’s getting dark. We pull all the fush out and get pictures. He grabbed a nice to start clothes I said on no you have done way to much already we can clean or own fush and he would not let me clean the fish he did it all. Next morning I see some people leaving that was on the boats next to us that had left at 3 with no fish. So I asked him how did y’all trip go and he said we had 2 boats to bring our whole group out and we did not get one tuna at all. He asked me if I seen the boat that came in just before dark they had a load if big tuna lol I said yes that was us. I told him what captain Joey had done for us he said not our captain he said time to go home

From booking the trip, to slamming the dock with MONSTER Tuna the afternoon of our trip, the folks at Relentless Sportfishing couldn't have done anything more to make our experience any better. Capt. Joey and Neil are incredibly personable, patient, and know good and well how to produce the fish!! Our group of friends varied greatly in experience offshore fishing, and the crew knew exactly how to assist and teach when needed, while also allowing the more experienced anglers the ability to kind of do our own thing. We went home with coolers full of tuna (per our request of species and time of year), and some of the greatest memories this group of guys have ever made. Can't wait to do it all again next year!!

Capt. Joey Davis and his mate Travis made our charter one my family and I will never forget! Capt. Joey was very helpful when my kids needed help and some tips on with reeling in the fish. (We caught multiple tunas this day) Capt. Joey was a very skilled and insightful when I asked questions about his gear and different pelagic species. Overall, I can’t wait to go back to Venice, LA and experience another fun trip with these guys!

A few weeks ago, my family along with some friends booked a yellowfin fishing charter with captain Joey and Relentless Sportfishing. We arrived to the marina where we had agreed to meet at a certain time and Joey had shown up several minutes late, not a very good first impression. We then hopped on the boat, met the crew with very little information on anything and set out To try to do some fishing
All together it seemed as if Joey did not have a solid game plan, was very unintelligent, and was lacking concern for his guests on his boat. He seemed more concerned with his cell phone, his buddies on the radio, and the cleanliness and care of his equipment than he was doing a thorough job of putting us on fish.
Once we were docked, the deckhand began cleaning the 3 small fish we luckily had caught and we had to interrupt Joey several times from his circle of fishing buddies to see how much we owed on gas and to pay the final tab.
Unprofessional, unintelligent, and an overall robery.
