What a keen selection of musical performers choose to play at Iron Horse. The Horse is its appropriate nickname for how comfortable and familiar with its offerings you quickly feel... and the musicians who appear here have often become famous soon after but continue to return. Amazing to have THE IRON HORSE MUSIC HALL here in Northampton for four exciting decades to date...and counting.

The Iron Horse Music Hall is among the multiple concert venues in Northampton and has legendary bands that were big back in the 70's & 80's for a reasonably priced general admission ticket. Small old multi level bar with as many tables and chairs as can fit so it's tight but your part of an intermate concert experience. Been there a few times and each time was enjoyable & memorable. The more popular artist typically sell out which means you'll want to get there an hour early if you want a seat closer to the stage. Just saw Nektar and they were awesome there, even for being on a tiny stage, somehow they managed to fit all their equipment. In the past enjoyed Rickie Lee Jones and Jorma Kaukonen - excellent experience. Looking forward to going again.
There's also other nice venues in the town: The Calvin Theater, Academy of Music, Smiths College and others.

great venue. enjoyed the concert. clean, nice amenities. easy to park. easy to find. close to restaurants and bars.

Been going to Iron Horse maybe 8 years now. I hour drive. I've sat up front, off to the side, way in back and standing near the bar (that was Dougie McClean years ago). I once tried to strategize seating so I could figure out some licks of Albert Lee, sat right up front but he put his music stand in front of him and it blocked my view except for one he jumped up a bit. I've met some good folks sitting next to me or near me and we've all enjoyed the shows. One even now a FB friend. The food is ok by me, the beer is cold and the service has never been a problem for me that I recall. I'm from NYC and have been in far worse bathrooms. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go and I'm never put off in any way by the downstairs facilites. Maybe I just like funky. And, love the town. Check out Turn it Up for CD's, but carefull on their stairs.

While the Iron Horse has the ability to provide a venue for fabulous live performances, that's where the positive things end. The food and drinks are overpriced and not that great. The service is painfully slow. My friends' meals were finished before their beverages arrived! All I ordered was a drink and it took me over an HOUR to get one bottled beverage and when it did arrive was past its "best by" date and not even cold. I tried to order directly at the bar and was told I couldn't. We all wanted to buy the server a shirt that said "I'm sorry" because that was her most used expression. The food was awful; the seats are uncomfortable if you have to sit on the high tops under the upstairs tables. They seats are so uncomfortable, we stood up behind the table for 90% of the performance. And unfortunately the crowd was disrespectful and noisy. I could barely hear the performer's intros over the crowd's chatter. When Jordi Herold owned it, he kept the tables quiet because it was about the MUSIC. It's not a bar! And to cap it off, it was another hour+ to pay the tab and leave. She tried to deliver our checks at 8:30 and found they were wrong... reprinted and returned them... and then a 40 minute wait to get our credit cards back. Awful. I won't return and I've been a patron for more than 35 years.

Okay, so you have to REALLY want to see who’s playing to bother with this place. You have to show up when the doors open in order to get a decent table...which means you eat there. The place is a dump and in serious need of upgrading. Everything is shabby. The food is meh and overpriced. Drinks are overpriced. Tables and chairs shabby and tippy. Bathrooms condemnable.

We went to see Farewell Angelina - with local star Ashley Gearing. Great concert!
Price fair for the show with easy viewing from most seats. Only thing is to get decent seats you have to get there at 5:30 for a 7 pm show. We chose to eat dinner - I got the falafel pita and hubby got the burger. Nothing to brag about.
Gave a 4 star for music - 3 at most for food and venue upkeep!

Looking over the calendar of events from the Iron Horse you are sure to find some old favorites, as well as some fine local talent. Most of the acts were bigger names in the past, but still have a good following. Drinks are served and people generally seem to have a great time there, but it is a little loud and crowded for my taste. If you like loud and crowded, you'll love this place. Some of the names are worth it.

The incredible range of music options offered at this venue in a small city makes this place unique. The sound quality and layout make this a great place for music. The food is okay, the reason to go is for the music, but you can get an acceptable meal.
All the seating is good, but I like to go early to pick a spot where I can stand up and more while the music is on without blocking anyone. Have dinner while waiting

I've seen solo acoustic to Dick Dale and The Yardbirds at this club. The sound has always been excellent. They have high quality speakers and it seems they always have the same sound guy. He really knows what he's doing. I hope the owners pay him enough to keep him there!
The various staff members have always been nice too from the people at the door, to the bartenders to the wait staff.
The food is typically good bar fare.
The venue is in a great location with lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. We've always found a parking space nearby as long as we got there before 6pm.
