Highly disappointed that this place is closed on a Saturday. We couldn't go inside or climb the lighthouse

As we were driving along the scenic Lakeshore Drive, we came across this lighthouse. The beautiful setting lured us to stop for a visit. The structure you see today was built in 1870. The tower has only 72 steps. Museum has information about past lightkeepers and artifacts. Along the boardwalk, there are informative signs describing the history of the area and the lighthouse. It's named for the Iroquois warriors massacred there by the Ojibway in 1662.

Very nice stop. Beautiful area. View from lighthouse is amazing. Gift shop and bathrooms available. Other nice stops on the area, making it a nice day road trip.

I did two road trips around Michigan in 2021 and photographed at least 50 lighthouses, all around the lower and upper peninsula coastlines. Some lighthouses were excellent and some were just ok. Some you could climb to the top and some you could only see from the distance as they were offshore.
Point Iroquois was one of the first we visited. We could not go inside at the time (covid closed), but walked all around it, along the boardwalk area and along the beach. It's a really nice light and worth a visit if such things interest you.

My friends took me out to the Point Iroquois Lighthouse as the sun was starting to set. It was a peaceful, quiet setting with beautiful views. The area is beautifully kept up and the stone walls added to the lighthouse.

Stopped at the lighthouse while on the Scenic Byway. The building did not appear open. Still was lovely to look at. I hadn't known the byway existed so this was not my planned route. As such, I didn't realize until later that the beach could be accessed from the property. Should have explored some more.

This is just a cute little stop along the scenic route. The lighthouse has a very charming feel, and the grounds are beautiful. There is also a trail leading down to the beach which is very nice!

Lovely stopping place, nice walkway to beach, short short beach walk to water, bench with lovely view and nice breeze. Buildings closed but it is still a nice stop.

When we visited, the light house buildings were closed. That did not disappoint. The grounds are enjoyable with a variety of boardwalks in a natural setting. Steps lead down to the shore where visitors can enjoy the sand and rocky beach. The paths are generally handicapped accessible which is an added bonus. A large and well maintained parking lot is a welcoming sight. The bracing air, the chill of the lake and the aromatic forest make for a restorative visit.

I wish Covid didn't have everything closed, but sadly, the inside were closed off. The people there were outside and giving us information and answered a lot of questions. I really liked how they found a way to still interact and make it a good experience without being able to be fully open the place up.
The stone around the grounds is beautiful. The views are lovely. The path around the grounds and the overlooks were an added bonus. It's not a long path but it really did you a chance to see all the views. I could have spent hours here. It really is a beautiful and peaceful out of the way place. The drive here from Paradise is worth it. Take the extra hour, go explore.

As someone else has said, it seems to be closed during late fall and winter. Further questions might be addressed to the Sault Ste. Marie visitors bureau or chamber of commerce or the State of Michigan travelers' service. Tom Zelinski

The parking lot and boardwalk to Lake Superior are pretty much always open, even in winter if you have a vehicle that can get you in. Bathrooms and lighthouse itself will vary...usually open until at least 5:00 and summer it can be 7:00. I've climbed up to the light at dusk when the gift shop was closed but they left that open till 9:00pm. you should have no trouble.

This writer states the lighthouse is closed on Mondays, however, the website for the lighthouse states it is open seven days a week. Which is correct ?

You can visit the grounds at any time, so in that respect, it is open 7 days a week. To actually visit the museum or climb the spiral staircase up to the top of the lighthouse, the times vary. If I wanted to know for sure, I'd call: 906-428-5800 ~The website shows: Summer Hours
May 15 - October 15 Open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm 7 days a week Winter Hours
October 16 - May 14 Open 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Saturday and Sunday
