Great tour. Took the snow coach tour with Darren. Darren was a great tour guide, with lots of knowledge about the park and the wildlife in the park. Ordered the box lunch, which was well worth the additional $15.

Excellent day! We did the snow coach tour. Our driver and guide Zac is amazing. He was energetic and very accommodating. He showed us a number of great geysers and a waterfall. The park is simply amazing in the winter- completely uncrowded- I totally recommend it and I think Backcountry Adventures is a reputable and top notch outfit.

I had recently (2-21-22) planned a trip to W. Yellowstone to include snowmobiling for 5. We had 2 join the party a little late and used a competitor. I will just say, hands down Back Country had superior customer service and provided us novice snowmobilers with everything we needed to have an enjoyable trip. Extremely nice sleds, appropriate clothing, boots, helmet, gloves, snowmobile suit and their expertise on trail selection (thanks Julie and others). They will provide you with a map of the trails and based on weather conditions, will discuss several possible routes. There are numbered markers at the intersections, may want to pull off to the side (for safety) and ensure the correct direction. What to wear: our temps were COLD, -20/2 degrees. Consider toe or insole/hand/body warmers, non-cotton socks (heavy merino wool type), ensure your boots are not tight after you've put your socks on, your feet will be cold, I wore a thin top/bottom base layer, lined fleece pants, Nike type dri-fit turtleneck, down-type vest then my rented snowmobile suit, balaclava ski mask (the smaller eye window the better), small goggles are fine, sunglasses okay, if you cover your nose the glasses/goggles may fog, try a Zerdocean winter windproof fleece thermal full face balaclava, type (seems to push the exhaled air from your nose down and away from your glasses/goggles), add a neck warmer over the balaclava, warm insulated gloves with hand-warmers (snowmobiles have heated grips). Cell phones, gopros place in an inside pocket to keep warm. They do have helmets in which you can attach a gopro. If the weather permits, try two-top loop trail. Don't forget to stop and enjoy the beauty and be back by 5pm. So, there are numerous combinations of items to wear, this just worked for us.
Snowcoach tour - also with Backcountry. Pierre, you were exceptional. Your background expertise on Yellowstone and animals was very interesting and enjoyable. I found that you were very patient with all parties: questions, stopped to allow us to get out and take pics, walked with us to Fountain geyser (etc.) to provide details and actually found it to be active (I understand very uncommon), just a fulfilling day. Well worth the cost and tips we left.
To all at Backcountry, much appreciation. We hope to be back next year and for sure will rent from you. Loved your customer service!! ...even warmed up our snowmobiles and went over every detail until we were comfortable enough to soar. Thanks again.

Had two fantastic days with these folks and it was really wonderful! Nice vans (although the second day they sent a suv rather than two vans and it - the suv- was not nearly as good or as roomy or as easy to get in and out of - probably would’ve dropped a star if we had rode in it!) for the tour - but we were in the van both days! So;wasn’t a problem for us!
Very nice, friendly knowledgeable guides. Daughter first day - her Dad the second! Covered just amazingly beautiful sites - especially the water falls - one the first day - three the second! Geysers everywhere maybe exceeded only by the number of bison! (Note - bison NOT buffalo!). Were a lot around Old Faithful!
Covered a LOT of territory and we enjoyed every inch of it!
Would’ve loved more wildlife although we did “see” a coyote and a wolf at very long distances. Couple of eagles. (Got a great picture of one in top of a tree - one in flight. Huge nest way up on top of a ridge. Several duck/swans,on beautiful rivers. No elk but not time of year per guides. But the snow was so beautiful on the trees and mountains and just everywhere and more than off set seeing fewer animals. Grand Canyon of Yellowstone another highlight!
Highly recommend (but ask for the van versus the suv!)

We recently booked a guided snowmobile trip with Back Country Adventures. We visited with another retired couple. The advance booking was easy and so was the check in process. Our guide for the day was Zach who did an unbelievable job. He was friendly, knowledgeable, funny and made a point to include everyone in the group. We were given detailed safety instructions what to do when encountered wildlife (which happened multiple times) and even helpful advice about the ravens which will actually unzip backpacks and steal food. We saw various sights on the way to Old Faithful for lunch and back out of the park. Zach made a perfect day even better and we had a fantastic experience.

We've been to West Yellowstone several times, but used Back Country for the first time this year. Our experience was top notch. We had some in our group that did the snowcoach tour to Old Faithful and others that rented snowmobiles for several days of outside the park trail riding. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and accommodating. The snowcoach tour was excellent and the snowmobiles were in great condition. There is no doubt that we'll return to Jerry and team at Back Country Adventures on our next trip! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend this coach tour! VERY informative...This was our seventh visit to the park and our guide took us to four spots we had never been! We were very impressed 🙂 Our guides name was Brock maybe you can request him? Thank you for a great tour!

Back Country Adventures MADE our vacation. We did the Old Faithful snowmobile ride, the forest ride and the snow coach tour. The guides were exceptional. Zach was fun and very knowledgeable. Pierre was our snow coach tour guide. We started calling him Pierre Google because there was not one question we asked that he did not know the answer to....super knowledgeable.
If you are planning a trip to Yellowstone, you must book a tour or tours with this outfit. The best. They totally outfit you too with gloves, boots, snow suit and helmet.

Fantastic snowmobile tour to Old Faithful. 6 hours or so. Beautiful scenery, fantastic wildlife. Lots of photo ops. Lindsey is a superb knowledgeable guide.

What a great snow coach tour. Our guide Mike Swan was very informative about Yellowstone NP. Even though the weather was iffy it was a very rewarding experience. The van was clean and modern. Would definitely do this tour again.

I'm going snowmobiling in West Yellowstone at the end of the month. They provide snowsuits hoodies helmets gloves and boots and I know to layer underneath starting with thermals but what should I wear on top of that? I know not to wear cotton but any other suggestions and how many layers exactly?

I wore leggings for exercise, dri-fit shirt and down vest. It was perfect.
My son had glove liners too but your hands stay pretty warm because of the heated handle bars.

Old Faithful Snowmobile, we live in deep south, snow and cold temps are not our norm, I know snow suits are provided however what are your suggestions about what to wear underneath, with us not being used to extreme cold I want to make sure everyone is wearing what they need

We arrived to BackCountry Adventures building around 8:00 am, left with Snowmobiles around 9 am, travelled to Old Faithful and returned by around 4:00 pm.

Does Back Country have a way to strap a standard backpack to the snowmobile? We will be riding the double machines and we are thinking of bring a standard backpack(20" by 12" or so, like school kids) with coffee, snacks, and camera.

Are you able to take a DSLR camera on this trip? I wasn't sure if there is room for a camera bag or not. I could use a cell phone but would like to get better shots with a regular camera.

Yes. Space is limited but we each took a backpack which fit under seat, on lap or at feet. Enjoy!

Hi - My wife and I will be in town Monday evening March 13 until Thursday afternoon March 16. We want to do a snowcoach/guided snow machine tour to Old Faithful, plus a day unguided rental. Need a double machine since she is not comfortable driving. Can you recommend days/price/etc? We already have motel booked. Thanks!

Karst Stage runs a shuttle from Bozeman to West Yellowstone. You can book it online. You might contact them to see if they would pick up in Big Sky.
