I love lighthouses and visit many. I didn't know what to expect here. I didn't realize it's a state park so the grounds are quite large. The lighthouse is definitely inland - so not necessarily the most picturesque. There are a couple boardwalk (?) viewing areas - one has an overview of a pond with swans and the other leads directly to the beach. There are restrooms, and a very small visitor center. The lighthouse also has a small gift shop. I believe you can buy tickets to go up the lighthouse, but we didn't do that. Ice cream truck vendor - but nearly no garbage cans around the grounds! Odd.

Very nice area. The lighthouse is very well maintained and you are able to go to the very top. Ample parking.

Over the years, I have visited the Cape May lighthouse many times. The view is stunning and it never gets old. The climb is 199 steps but there are six landings so if someone in your party gets tired, it’s easy to step onto a landing and rest while you take in the view as you make your way up to the top of the lighthouse. There is a lovely guide who greets you at the top and answers all the questions you have about the lighthouse and it’s history. Great to know the lighthouse is still working after all these years. This was a wonderful activity for our last day in Cape May.

My family and I really enjoyed our time at the light house. It was super fun climbing all 199 steps to the top. Gift shop is on the small side, but we still managed to purchase a few things. Grounds are kept pretty clean. Really liked the fact it’s so close to the beach, which was free to enjoy. I believe they also have a museum, but we did not partake.

Not real close to the water but could see quite a bit. The bunker was neat on the beach. It does cost to go in the light house.

We visited twice, and enjoyed the museum (with some small animals) and visitor center. Trailheads start at the parking lot, and my husband ran on the wetland trails, and we also took some walks. Saw plenty of wildlife- egrets, swans, ducks, rabbits, dragonflies, and various birds. There is beach access (no swimming) and you can see the WWII bunker on the beach. One of the staff members showed my young daughter and me how they lower the purple martin birdhouses and count the eggs. There is a little concession stand with drinks and ice cream, and a few big pavilions in case you bring a lunch. We did not pay to go up into the lighthouse; I don't think it would have been worth the fee. But we enjoyed seeing it.

This is a must do visit while in Cape May. Lots of parking and areas to walk around. There is a fee to climb to top of lighthouse, but all else is free. There is a boardwalk up over dunes to get a good view of the area as well.

Beautiful historic lighthouse. It costs $12 per person to climb the 199 steps to the top. Amazing views from the top. Has a nature center on the same property; and access to the beach. Parking was convenient. The rangers in the nature center were putting on a talk showcasing their live animals. I don't mind paying the fee to climb because the money goes to maintaining this landmark.

Cape May Lighthouse was not too difficult to climb and provides amazing views for miles around. Cost is $12pp. Stairs have a railing and a place to stop every 30 stairs or so. Climbing things is something we like to do when we travel, so lighthouses, buildings etc.. are always a draw for us. Parking was free and easily accessible. Great picture opportunities from the beach side. Take the time to check out some of the trails and the WW2 bunker that is on the beach. The history of the area is also interesting and each of the landings going up has pictures and information. Saw all ages climbing!! Employees in the gift shop and the lighthouse were pleasant and helpful. You can buy a pin in the gift shop that says "I climbed Cape May Lighthouse". Its only $1 and probably something the kids would love.

Are there any limitations (age or height) on climbing up the stairs to the top of the lighthouse? (Some other lighthouses limit access for small children....)

Our kids are 8,7 and 5 and saw families with younger kids than ours. There are A LOT of steps and stair well if very tight so I wouldn't recommend bringing kids younger than 5, it will be very hard on them and you since you'll be carrying them, also younger kids were afraid of height (the ones we saw that day)
