The guide treated us like children. 1 ) Tour guide told one participant questions were not encouraged due to time limitations. It was the first and only question. 2.) Another participant was told the guide couldn't continue the tour unless the participant joined the rest of us. The participant was 8 feet away from us and had paused for seconds to take 2 photos.

You can tour this old historic home, which we did do many years ago, but that wasn't what we were there for on this day. They have an annual Scarecrow competition where local businesses and residents compete for the best scarecrows. We really enjoy this, however, the grounds are small, but there are enough of them to enjoy. You can also eat at the restaurant in the gift shop. Restrooms are located in the back in another building. To our surprise on this day, they had a Fall Festival and a local blues band that we were following for years was playing. It was very crowded. Parking is limited in the parking lot so it was difficult to find a spot today, but we did. I would recommend visiting the home when you visit.

First let me say 15 people on a tour with rooms this size is too many. Rooms are not big and you really can’t see the room as people are in front of everything. The house is ok, but nothing special. We took this tour on 7/29.
I like to take photos to share with friends, for my keepsakes & for reviews. To be scolded for taking photos was uncalled for. To be told you have to take photos while you are in the room.. How with it full of people!! I Do Not like others in my photos nor do I want to be in theirs. I tend to try to be first to take a quick full room photo or almost last for the same reason. Harry didn’t have a note card In hand, but he might as well have for the lack of story telling skills. A few minutes extra needs to be added on so those taking the tour can have a few mins to enjoy & see the room before moving on. It takes literally seconds to take a photo.
At one point with my back to him I took a quick photo of a room I was just in & now empty and he is having a fit because “I’m not in the room with him” I’m At the threshold between rooms.. 15 feet away from him & standing next to my husband who’s “in” the room because he was facing forward. I was not the only one who wanted to take photos. I just wasn’t scared off so easily. I have great hearing and heard all he said. Many of us were looking at each other in disbelief on how rude he was. Why pay to take a tour you are hustled into a room & out of without really being able to see it. Harry has to be the worst tour guide I’ve come across & we have done a ton of tours !!
He’s a grumpy older man who needs to find a better way to occupy his time. Working with people isn’t it!! Being a tour guide is not for him.
I can’t recommend this tour.

Wonderful Victorian house with nice furnishings. Our energetic tour guide Carol was excellent. I loved some of the old kitchen tools, the old hand lawn mower, the old record player. Lots of interesting old things. The number of people for each tour is limited, so go online and book ahead to make sure you get your spot.

I have been to the physick estate multiple times and I love it each and everytime we go. If I lived close to cape may I would love to be a guide to this gorgeous estate. I love touring the second floor but during the candle light tour we wasnt permitted to go to the secong floor. Its just amazing absolutely beautiful

Enjoyed this tour of the estate guided by Kathy, a knowledgeable guide who made it come alive for us. Thanks too for a chair provided for those who wanted one, since the tour involves a lot of standing in place.

This review is specifically for the production of Clueless that was offered this summer at the Emlen Physick estate. I tried without success to find out more about this event before I attended it, so I'm writing this in the hope it will help others like myself in the future.
Clueless turned out to be a 45 minute performance of a murder mystery set in the 1920s put on by five actors of varying levels of skill/professionalism. I attended the 8:30 pm show with my family on a Wednesday night in August. We were ushered into the house with about 20 guests and proceeded as a full group from the hallway to the dining room, where we watched as the actors arrived at a dinner party and set the scene for what was about to take place. Then it was announced that one of the characters had suddenly died from poisoning (while out of sight in another room). The spectators were divided into two groups and each group spent time in different rooms on the first floor with each of the three suspects. Our assignment was to "question" the suspects and work together with our group members to try to figure out who was guilty of the poisoning. However, the questioning wasn't spontaneous, instead it involved reading prewritten questions that were given to us by one of the actors and listening as the suspects recited monologues with their answers. Then all the guests and the actors gathered again in the dining room, where the groups deliberated and made their predictions about who committed the crime. This was the only truly immersive part of the production, prior to that we were really just watching as the characters acted out their parts.
First, I want to say that my family and I had fun at Clueless - overall, it was an entertaining evening! We had no idea what to expect, but the guests all got into the spirit of things and we enjoyed working together and trying to solve the crime. The actors clearly had different amounts of training and experience, but they all were enthusiastic and they earned our good will.
I also have some critical comments. I think it would be good to have more detail up front about how this event works so that people who expect a more immersive experience based on the advertising aren't disappointed. I'd also like to see more information about the house and its contents, either incorporated as part of the show or afterward. We spent time in several of the rooms on the first floor, but it was really just atmosphere - the performance could have taken place anywhere. Finally, I think that the pricing for Clueless this summer at $25 adults/$20 children was too high for this show, though it does seem to be in sync with the other tours and events offered at the estate.

This was recommended by the volunteer at the Cape May Lighthouse. We opted not to take the trolley ride/tour combo and just walk there. It is about 2 miles from the Washington Street shops and an easy walk. You can see all the historic buildings on the way. The Mansion house is a great story and the estate is beautiful. It was worth the walk! May not be for small children - you literary can not touch anything.

We visited over MLK weekend and tacked the visit to the house onto our history trolley tour and we are so glad that we did. The history contained within the walls of this home is fascinating. The docent provided a wealth of interesting information and so much of the house remains original. Everyone should take the time to visit and appreciate this piece of history and beautiful home.

I had the best tour for the holidays at the Physick estate. The mansion was so beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays and the tour guide was especially nice and took her time to explain the stories about the family and the people who lived here.
All the rooms were decorated for the Christmas holiday season and there was garland and bows all over the house. The Christmas trees were in several rooms so you got the see the Victorian version, the table top version and the smaller tree version in the bedrooms. The woodwork was decorated with strands of garland and the house itself was decorated with lights, candles, and all sorts of homemade decorations. It looked like the family was preparing for the holidays in each room.
The Kitchen and Dining Rooms looked like everything was being prepared for the Christmas meal. There was all sorts of food items out and the menus and recipes were all out so that we could see what the cooks were making for the holidays.
The clothes were lined out in the bedrooms so that people knew what to wear and there were all sorts of presents that needed to be wrapped in the bedroom as if the family had just left for a moment.
Even the tour guide said that the house was haunted but did not elaborate on it. It is an excellent tour and should not be missed when visiting Cape May.

Is it open Christmas weekend 2023? Can we walk from the ferry?

Yes, it's open during Christmas and has special holiday displays and programs. And no, you really can't walk anywhere from the ferry. You would definitely need a car.

Yes, you're more than welcome to take photos, with two provisions. First, if you're a part of a group touring the estate, keep in mind other visitors and the guide and try not to hold up the tour as you're shooting. Second, you cannot use flash. Other than that, feel free to collect some memories to take home!

There is the Carriage House and Tea Room on the grounds we didn't eat there personally as the day we were at the Estate to Tea Room was very crowded, check out the TripAdvisor reviews for the Tea Room and decide. One thing with Cape May there are plenty of dining choices.

How far is this from the Cape May-Lewes Ferry? Are there any transportation options for ferry foot passengers?
Đã viết vào 27 tháng 8, 2016
It's about four and a half miles. The Ferry offers Cape May Ferry and Tour packages, some of which include a shuttle stop at the estate. A ride via Uber might be another option.
