Enjoyed this tour of the estate guided by Kathy, a knowledgeable guide who made it come alive for us. Thanks too for a chair provided for those who wanted one, since the tour involves a lot of standing in place.

This review is specifically for the production of Clueless that was offered this summer at the Emlen Physick estate. I tried without success to find out more about this event before I attended it, so I'm writing this in the hope it will help others like myself in the future.
Clueless turned out to be a 45 minute performance of a murder mystery set in the 1920s put on by five actors of varying levels of skill/professionalism. I attended the 8:30 pm show with my family on a Wednesday night in August. We were ushered into the house with about 20 guests and proceeded as a full group from the hallway to the dining room, where we watched as the actors arrived at a dinner party and set the scene for what was about to take place. Then it was announced that one of the characters had suddenly died from poisoning (while out of sight in another room). The spectators were divided into two groups and each group spent time in different rooms on the first floor with each of the three suspects. Our assignment was to "question" the suspects and work together with our group members to try to figure out who was guilty of the poisoning. However, the questioning wasn't spontaneous, instead it involved reading prewritten questions that were given to us by one of the actors and listening as the suspects recited monologues with their answers. Then all the guests and the actors gathered again in the dining room, where the groups deliberated and made their predictions about who committed the crime. This was the only truly immersive part of the production, prior to that we were really just watching as the characters acted out their parts.
First, I want to say that my family and I had fun at Clueless - overall, it was an entertaining evening! We had no idea what to expect, but the guests all got into the spirit of things and we enjoyed working together and trying to solve the crime. The actors clearly had different amounts of training and experience, but they all were enthusiastic and they earned our good will.
I also have some critical comments. I think it would be good to have more detail up front about how this event works so that people who expect a more immersive experience based on the advertising aren't disappointed. I'd also like to see more information about the house and its contents, either incorporated as part of the show or afterward. We spent time in several of the rooms on the first floor, but it was really just atmosphere - the performance could have taken place anywhere. Finally, I think that the pricing for Clueless this summer at $25 adults/$20 children was too high for this show, though it does seem to be in sync with the other tours and events offered at the estate.

This was recommended by the volunteer at the Cape May Lighthouse. We opted not to take the trolley ride/tour combo and just walk there. It is about 2 miles from the Washington Street shops and an easy walk. You can see all the historic buildings on the way. The Mansion house is a great story and the estate is beautiful. It was worth the walk! May not be for small children - you literary can not touch anything.

We visited over MLK weekend and tacked the visit to the house onto our history trolley tour and we are so glad that we did. The history contained within the walls of this home is fascinating. The docent provided a wealth of interesting information and so much of the house remains original. Everyone should take the time to visit and appreciate this piece of history and beautiful home.

I had the best tour for the holidays at the Physick estate. The mansion was so beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays and the tour guide was especially nice and took her time to explain the stories about the family and the people who lived here.
All the rooms were decorated for the Christmas holiday season and there was garland and bows all over the house. The Christmas trees were in several rooms so you got the see the Victorian version, the table top version and the smaller tree version in the bedrooms. The woodwork was decorated with strands of garland and the house itself was decorated with lights, candles, and all sorts of homemade decorations. It looked like the family was preparing for the holidays in each room.
The Kitchen and Dining Rooms looked like everything was being prepared for the Christmas meal. There was all sorts of food items out and the menus and recipes were all out so that we could see what the cooks were making for the holidays.
The clothes were lined out in the bedrooms so that people knew what to wear and there were all sorts of presents that needed to be wrapped in the bedroom as if the family had just left for a moment.
Even the tour guide said that the house was haunted but did not elaborate on it. It is an excellent tour and should not be missed when visiting Cape May.

The performance was very enjoyable but there was WAY too many people in attendance. There had to be 30 people there, and we were "herded" from room to room.

This is a beautiful, well-preserved mansion designed by architect Frank Heyling Furness. He also designed the woodwork in the home and a lot of the furniture. Our tour took about 45 minutes to an hour and visited the first and second floors. Our docent was very good. The problem I had was the group size. There were almost forty people. They split us into two groups, but that still left 18 in our group. In addition, two parties in our group talked loudly continually throughout the tour, making it difficult to hear the docent. Really, for the cost of visiting the mansion, group size should really be limited to ten or fewer.

We had a great tour of this house. Our tour guide was Harry who was wonderful. He was very informative of the family and staff who lived in the house. Many very interesting pieces from the time around the house.

I have wanted to tour this estate for quite a while and never had the opportunity. This year I made it a point to see it and was not disappointed. It is a beautiful estate and really takes you back in time. The architecture is amazing and the guides were very knowledgeable about the history of the estate. We combined it with the trolley tour which takes you through town and all the victorian houses. Very informative.

Reworked and embellished by Philadelphia architect Frank Furness, the guides really know the history of the house and give a great tour. It is walkable from the main area and is well worth while.

Are you allowed to take photos

Yes, you're more than welcome to take photos, with two provisions. First, if you're a part of a group touring the estate, keep in mind other visitors and the guide and try not to hold up the tour as you're shooting. Second, you cannot use flash. Other than that, feel free to collect some memories to take home!

There is the Carriage House and Tea Room on the grounds we didn't eat there personally as the day we were at the Estate to Tea Room was very crowded, check out the TripAdvisor reviews for the Tea Room and decide. One thing with Cape May there are plenty of dining choices.

It's about four and a half miles. The Ferry offers Cape May Ferry and Tour packages, some of which include a shuttle stop at the estate. A ride via Uber might be another option.

Photography is not allowed in the Physick Estate for several reasons: to insure that all tour goers have a good experience on the tour, to eliminate disruptions to the tour and to insure the safety of the objects in MAC's collection. We appreciate our visitors understanding the necessity.
