There are 3 ladies whomaintain order for distributing food every Thursday. One young Asian ladyand the senior lady are professional, courteous and respectful. Buta middle aged lady who is originally from Tianjin, Mainland China does theopposite way. She has a store opposite your church. She always let her storepatrons jump in line at the last minute. When people wait for over 4, 5 hours,they make some complaints about the issue, she just says just oneperson, it will not make any difference. She will let at least 10 of her patronsjump in line every Thursday. Some people follow her suit to jump in line. Abovementioned young Asian lady listened to people complain about the issue.She decided to distribute tickets at AM10:30 every Thursday for people in line at that time inorder to resolve the issue. At AM10:30 Feb.03,2023, the tickets were ready butthe Tianjin lady did not want to distribute the ticket since lots of her storepatrons did not show up. Until AM 11:00 the majority of her store patronsshowed up. The Tianjin lady started distributing tickets, she gave some ticketsto people in line and other tickets to her store patrons. For example she distributedticket no. 13 to one of her store patrons then distributed ticket no. 14 to the personwho is in line. Her store patron who got ticket no. 13 wants to jump inline. The person who has ticket no. 14 did not want to let her store patronjump in line, they had a physical fight. This kind of incident happened severaltimes, the young Asian lady admitted she failed and will not distribute ticketsin the future. People in line complain and boo Tianjin lady for causing theissue. She responded to them, "wait, I will kick all of you out ofthe line. Later she retaliated against the person who made the complaintand asked him out of the line and threatened him that she will make sure hewill not get the food in the future. Several people testified that the guy wasin the line, She yelled “you say he is in the line, thenyou are out of the line now and you can not get food today. I don’t thinkit is appropriate like the Tianjin lady does for treat senior citizens and people who desperately need food. I believe the purpose of your pantry is to servesenior citizens and other people who are suffering from economic insecurity and social crisis in our community. I don’tbelieve the purpose of the pantry is for the benefit of her storepatrons.

This is place of worship for Jewish community and very old at this place since long. They welcome anyone walking in.

May be the oldest Synagogue in the area. It was old in the 50's when I worked in Flushing. It's now 2019. Do the math. I have to look on the building to see if there's date and will update.

I grew up going to this temple in the 80's. Beautiful building with the famous stair out front. Lots of memories!

This was the temple I went to as a child, way back when - 1980s. The sanctuary is beautiful. I remember the Torah was kept in a separate room. This temple makes anyone who walks in feel welcome no matter your religion. I will never forget all of the stairs to the front doors. In 1989, we moved to Long Island and the temple was not as good as this one.

The central place of worship isn't open to the public so plan ahead by emailing or calling the main office phone number. I toured this as part an annual tour organized by the New York Landmarks Conservancy called "Sacred Sites NY." The Free Synagogue of Flushing is a landmarked building. The ornamental elements inside the synagogue are classically ornate, very European-feeling in the materials and grandeur. The pews are modern wood. There's a beautiful stained glass window at the peak of the ceiling dome. The tour guide explained they don't know if it's Tiffany glass though it looks like it might be. It's unlikely for a synagogue to have stained glass, he explained, which is a feature that makes the architecture unique.

Flushing, one of the oldest villages in NYC, was a Jewish neighborhood 100 years ago when this huge Shul was built in the Sephardic Style. Now Flushing is Chinese & Korean - there are less than a Minyan of Jews left - but Jews love Chinese food so commute in for services. The building is beautiful and worth a visit, but take public transportation as parking is impossible.

Six or seven years ago our son discovered this synagogue while driving by on the bus. He visited and was immediately impressed with the thoughtfulness and eloquence of Rabbi Michael Weisser. He joined and we soon followed. At the time, the synagogue was coming off of a low ebb, but as of 2015, they are resurgent with a room full of young scholars coming in every weekend and an ambitious slate of programs.
