This smallish museum is full of beautiful sculptures of mostly stone. Works are arranged in several galleries on two floors and in an outdoor garden area. The outdoor garden is especially wonderful. There is a paved path but also benches. Take a bit of time to sit to listen and look. The garden does an amazing job of muting the city noise.
Inside there is an elevator, bathrooms and a gift shop. The shop has some beautiful, interesting and unique items. I just bought postcards. Photography is allowed within the museum. Don't touch the sculptures!
We made reservations online before our visit as recommended. Masks were required inside (thank you). There were several people there when we were, but it was not crowded at all. We drove and were able to park on the street just a block away.
Artwork is primarily by Isamu Noguchi but works by others are there too. As noted in another review read about the museum before you go for mare impact.
Highly recommend.

The positioning of this Zen jewelbox in a warehouse district in LIC makes it all the more special. Each area has its own unique energy. Noguchi has been a force in the fine and applied arts since the 1930s. Suggest you do a little browsing online about the artist prior to coming, as there is no written or video history compilation on site. Also no beverage or food on site. This place calls out for a Japanese food truck, just sayin'.
Well worth the trip. So chill, even on a 95F afternoon.

I am from CA and my folks in NY told me about this museum. It is very unique. Rock curving arts exhibition. There was a nice garden outside with Rock exhibit as well. The museum store (inside) was fun to explore (pricey though). You can experience something you can NOT from other regular "art" (say...painting....) museums. Great place. At this time, FRIDAYS admissions are free. Yes, I went on Friday (7/1/22).

I can't express how much I am impressed with the museum. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of abstract, but the way the sculptures and other art have been curated it breathtaking. So much natural light that highlights the subtle textures. You can walk a 360 around every piece.
Make time to sit in the garden. There are plenty of benches to sit and look and listen. You can hear the birds and relax. I would love to go back and see the gallery earlier on the day. The main floor is amazing and an indoor outdoor space that connects with nature.
The staff is so friendly. A MUST see for any NYC visit. This is a hidden Gem!

My third visit. Extremely pleasant outdoor space. $5 admission for seniors and students. Photography encouraged. If you like contemporary sculpture, run.

Noguchi is iconic and now, for me, so is his museum. Really worth a trip. The open air parts coupled with the sculpture garden and gift shop make it truly unique. Then walk out the door to the Socrates Sculpture park and you're good to go.

not friendly for people of color. if you don’t want people to pose with the exhibits, then don’t allow photography all together - not sure why me and my friend were met with such hostility. i was really looking forward to visiting this museum but my experience was so uncomfortable i doubt i’ll be visiting any museum anytime soon.

I have wanted to visit the Noguchi Museum for several years. I finally did, when the museum reopened during the covid-19 pandemic. I purchased tickets online, two weeks in advance, for a Friday morning time slot.
At the entrance, I forgot to ask if there was a guided tour of the museum; most likely tours were not available due to the pandemic. The gift shop and café were closed. Social distancing and wearing masks were required.
The museum has a superb collection of Noguchi’s vast work. For me, the highlight was the serene sculpture garden. The perfect place to sit, while watching the sunlight and shadows on the sculptures.
If driving: I parked in Costco’s parking lot because I planned to shop after the museum. Although parking is difficult in Long Island City, I noticed two parking spaces when I arrived. Read the street signs to avoid getting a ticket.
If you haven’t already: Watch the (2010) film Leonie. The story of Leonie Gilmour, Isamu Noguchi’s mother. The movie may not be 100% accurate, but it offers insight into Isamu Noguchi’s childhood, and the relationship between his American mother, Leonie Gilmour and his Japanese father, Yone Noguchi.

I am glad I visited this place. It is a very arty and at an off beaten path location. It takes about one hour to take in everything. This is a place worth checking out but not on the same tier as MOMA. It's one of those I have already checked everything else, so lets check this place out kind of a deal. Worthwhile nonetheless.

I realise that these things are subjective, but how long do you think one should allow to visit this museum and is it close to the Socrates sculpture garden?

I would spend about one hour, plus or minus, in the Noguchi Museum. Well worth the visit! The Socrates Sculpture Garden is a short two block walk from the Noguchi. You could spend another 30-45 minutes there exploring and feasting on the view of the skyline of Manhattan. Two hours to visit both should work.
