The theater itself and the production company have been a 9 out out ten in many respects giving platforms to many a variety of performances that would otherwise never be seen elsewhere. Last night though I wish I had missed this production of Salsa Cabaret Cali Salsa Pal' Mundo.
To begin none of the performers were at fault for this embarrassing travesty. The first number should have been my clue where this was going.
"Be Italian" from "9" the movie with a lip-sync that would have been a sashay away. But honestly Salsa Cabaret with a starting point of Italian is just wrong.
There were several trips to inappropriate material when Ms. Christina Aguilera from Burlesque the movie was used. Again I don't see what that had to do with Salsa Cabaret. Now the director should be called out because the production needed much more rehearsal since it looked clunky and clumsy.
Some of the performers looked dazed and confused. Some in their own little world of "look at me, LOOK AT ME! ". That lies squarely at the director's foot, pun intended.
Several of of the ladies were dropped to almost amusement of what could go wrong in a live performance. There were several dancers who were trying to some degree of success of transcending this schlock of a script. I fault not one of the dancers or the good singer that was there. If this if it were to proceed anywhere, it would have to be majorly overhauled. If you put this performance on Free Cable access, you will get LETTERS of an inappropriate kind.
Again Thalia Spanish theater is a great production company that should be noticed by the Tony's committee for excellence in local theater production. Let's just not mention this hiccup.

The Flamenco adaptation of Euripides with a star cast is extremely entertaining. The theatre, known for starring a wide range of entertainment, is the perfect venue. This show will end on March 31, 2019 and worth checking out.

What a delightful evening of dance. The dancers were all ages and all were superb. You are close up to the performers wherever you choose to sit. The venue is small and personal and cozy. You are greeted by the manager. We're told the theater has been here for 4 years, and it is a wonderful new experience. Do try to make it there soon.

While the show is thoroughly enjoyable, the choreography (by Harold Puente and Armando Moreno) is not up to the caliber we've come to expect in the Latin-themed dance revues the Thalia presents each season. Puente and Moreno use a generic movement vocabulary to craft numerous numbers purportedly representative of dances from Colombia's indigenous traditions and various geographical regions. There are lots of basic folksy steps, ballet positions, ballroom-style partnering, and some tasteless gyrating—all performed in presentational formations by dancers who grin throughout and "sell it" with sexy pizzazz. In many cases, the choreography seems merely an excuse for the dancers to parade about in magnificent costumes—one more glittering and glitzy than the next—designed by Puente and Moreno, who also serve as the production's artistic directors

I just recently visited this theater with my partner and family. We went to see Colombian musical with Meztizo Dance company and Harold Gutierrez and his band, it was a great experience. Very colorful dresses , nice professional dancer and affordable . Next year they have Tango. I strongly recommend it

We've been attending their dance productions for years, even though we don't speak Spanish. You don't need to, because the music and dance say it all. And we're talking live music, not recordings! Try finding that on Broadway! We've never paid more than $30, and there are only 8 rows in the theater, so there's not a bad seat in the house. Their tango musicals are especially good; be sure to book tickets in advance because they sell out quickly. We've also seen shows with Colombian, Mexican and Flamenco music and dance. The Colombian shows are really fun and the live band really tears the place up! The theater is located on a commercial strip in a mostly residential neighborhood. There are lots of great places to eat on nearby Queens Blvd. and even across the street.
