The person we spoke to in the visitor centre was really helpful. We were given a guide - A Town Walk in Historic Castlemaine - which had a map and a very interesting self guided walk around some of the historic buildings. Well worth visiting.

Self guided walk around tour around the town was amazing. Very informative and so interesting. Really engaging and easy to follow.

This is located in the gorgeous old Market building in central Castlemaine. There is street parking. When I visited here there was an Art exhibit and it appears that this might be normal for the centre.
The Art exhibit is worth taking some time to look around... the visitor information centre is in one of the 'wings' and it's beautifully laid out It offers a host of information and locally made produce and products.
I received outstanding service here and left with several brochures to help me explore the area.

Decided to check it out while going for a walk around the town. I only had 10 minutes to spend before closing; however, from what I saw I was quite impressed.
Unlike other visitor and information centres, which can be small and pokey, this one is quite bright and spacious which I found made it seem more inviting. The other thing I like about it: it showcases local artists and stocks things from local businesses. Eg. I picked up some locally made honey from nearby Maldon plus I saw some boiled sweets I’d seen sold in The Maldon Lolly Shop.

Interesting art display during visit. Staff helpful and lots of information available. Centrally located to town.

The Castlemaine Visitor Centre is in the historic Market Building. They can tell you all you need to know about Castlemaine, an historic gold town. By the way, check with them before you go somewhere, as the attraction may be temporarily closed, especially in wwinter.

The old market building and gallery are interesting for themselves, but the Visitor Information Centre inside has all the local, district and national brochures and maps, souvenirs, local produce, and even more. The people are knowledgeable and ever ready to help.
