Plenty to see - if you know what you're looking at. Without the signs it's just some old buildings and bits of machinery, around a muddy lake.
There is a sign saying that "signage for the Forest Creek walk is currently being updated". It would have made more sense if the new signs were made before removing the old ones.

This was the White and Red Hills sites that were mined for 150 years. Here there was a self-guided 400m circuit tour with rusty, old machinery, an ancient river bed, mine shafts, the engine shed, and hydraulic sluicing site. It was quite a scenic walk redolent of Adelong in NSW but not as dramatic scenery.

Forest Creek is the remains of what was White Hill and Red Hill alluvial gold mining that commenced around 1852 and continued to this day. There is a 400 meter walking track and old equipment scattered around. Recognising that it may be maintained by volunteers with little funding, this important piece of Castlemaine history could be better preserved amd maintained.

I was driving to another site and I saw a sign to indicate that there was something noteworthy to look at, so I pulled in. I wasn't sure what to expect , there was plenty of parking but there was no formal carparking. I pulled over and headed towards the Entry sign, but was surprised to see no-one there. The site is completely free to walk around.
It's an old mining area, with incredible information signs to read as you wander around and it explains what you are seeing before you and how everything worked back then. It's a really incredible self- tour. I would recommend this to anyone. As for mobility issues, well there is a bit of a climb to the hill, but even if you struggle with that, there are other areas you will be able to get to.
There are no amenities at the area, but then what are you expecting... it's free. There was an odd moment walking in when I thought there were faulty speakers there, but then realised there are frogs in the water and obviously a very healthy colony of them there. They reverberate off the small cliff and are rather unusual to hear.

This area gives a real insight as to how the gold was claimed during the gold rush. The walk is relatively easy and there is a lot to see.

This was a historic site and interesting and covered one part of Castlemaine's gold mining history. It is well signed and laid out but perhaps it is all done with volunteers will limited funds it could have been done better

The tours and gold panning was closed but we still had a nice family walk around the diggings. Good descriptive information boards and some great old machinery

Castlemaine's gold mining history makes more sense following a visit to this site. Looks inauspicious from the road, but is well laid out, well sign posted, provides very good explanations, and relevant relics. Informative and educational-an excellent 1-1.5 hr visit location.

Une petite demi-heure sur un sentier qui nous fait faire le tour de ce lieu où on a recherché de l'or.
On voit un puits mais pas de chevalet, du matériel pour arracher la terre au karcher, d'autres matériels abandonnés, une bâtisse. Des panneaux explicatifs vous renseignent tout au long du chemin.
Intéressant car on remonte ainsi dans l'histoire de cette région.
