We have been to the exhibition, the gallery is in Castlemaine
The artworks are delightful
Throughout the extensive, beautifully maintained gardens, artworks are displayed, there are flowers of all descriptions, all beautifully handcrafted
In the indoor galleries, are more unique art works. Our favourites are the bird houses and the butterflies
There is so much to see at the exhibition and it is certainly a delightful experience

My husband and I visited Shades of Gray Studio while we were in the region for the Creswick Garden Lovers weekend. It was well worth the trip over from Creswick. The garden and sculpture are absolutely stunning! They have done an amazing job transforming the garden and filling it with their amazing work. The museum was awesome too, just loved it! I’ll definitely be back!

Always a delight to visit and take note of the changes that have gone on since our last visit. The garden is super with intriguing museum and gallery

My husband and I took of for a weekend away. Castlemaine Victoria was our destination. Researched where to go and came across this Studio’Shades if Gray’
These artists are extremely talented. Yes the items are a bit pricey but BEAUTIFUL.
I loved the way they have incorporated their work into the surrounding landscape. I could have walked the paths for another hr and still more. Peaceful, beautiful and Tranquil are the words that pop into my mind. No cost to enter and wow what I could do to my garden if I had the funds. Worth a browse and if you want a special piece that is eye catching this Studio is sure to have what you need.

How lovely with all the metal flowers in the garden . Some great sculptures and I loved that room with the collection of old wire things

I decided to visit Shades Of Gray Studio and Gallery in Castlemaine while they are show casing their annual Spring Exhibition this November. The day was sunny and the sky was blue and the magnificence that I encountered upon entering this enchanting place took my breath away with its beauty and charm. The garden is wonderful and nurturing and supports the beautifully created wire work which sits amongst the shrubs and trees There are swathes of coloured hand made flowers in various shapes and sizes all for sale and galleries full of the most stunning flowers, mirrors, birdcages, chandeliers, birds and more of everything. David Austen roses mingle amongst the trees and shrubs and provide a charming backdrop for the work. I had a wonderful time and enjoyed talking to Peter and Chelley about their work and meeting their great Dane Co Co who sits proudly watching all who come and go. I can recommend a visit to this magical place to see something truly wonderful and uplifting and the best part is that the things are for sale so the beautiful things can come home with you.

Love this gallery and gardens, such creativity and all from wire and tin and old stuff, there is a small museum and several small galleries where you can purchase made items, couldn’t boho e without shopping,

Having seen work by Peter & Chelly Gray at our local art show, and having remembered that their gallery is in Castlemaine, we decided to call past on the off-chance that they would be open on a chilly, wintery Sunday afternoon. After parking next to an amazing oversized metallic collection of flowers we noticed the sign that stated that if the gate was unlocked to call them on the phone and they would most likely be around and able to give you access to the gallery.....which is really a series of small galleries, a courtyard and a fabulous succulent garden and outdoor room that all showcase the incredibly diverse, stunning, clever and whimsical works made from tin, other metals and barbed wire by these impressive artists. Items range in price from tiny bunches of flowers in glass bottles and small butterflies and dragonflies ($20-30) to beautiful flowered wire wreaths, fantastically floral teapots, realistic chickens, extraordinary egg baskets and magnificent garden tripods ($35-350) and on to superbly sculpted vine decorated mirrors, candelabra, modern shapes on pedestals and giant sunflower wall hangings ($2900....). The workmanship and creativity is amazing. Sadly no credit cards are accepted but they do take cheques. The entire area is really tiny but packed with surprises and works that make you smile. Fantastic!

Shades of Gray is recommended by a friend of mine who lives in Castlemaine. She's hankering after a certain mirror that would enhance her garden's grotto, but it's expensive. SofG is not in the main shopping precinct, it's over the way and up the hill and around the bend, so you're best to be taken there by a local with a car. Also, it's a working studio, not an all-hours shopping space, so you cannot just arrive and expect to be let in. You'll need to plan ahead. Visit the Grays' website for days/dates of opening and forthcoming exhibitions. Expect to see a lot of curvy artworks (some usable, some solely for display) created out of rusty old wire and other metals: light fittings, nests/baskets, frames ...
