Hidden gem! Near the blue ridge parkway and Stone Mountain state park. Fantastic golf course and dining room! The Cottage we stayed at was very clean and huge! Will be back!

This place is the epitomy of incompetence. They sent no arrival information, they're the only place that has no front desk or any other contact after 5pm. They're internet didn't work which be minor but wait no no front desk to call to inquire about. Paint is peeling off the walls and no linens provided for the food out bed. The facilities are very worn and sad. I would choose a nice motel over this place.

I liked visiting Olde Beau so much I bought a vacation home here.

Located on top of a mountain at around 3200 ft, Olde Beau is a beautiful, tranquil retreat. The residents and staff are all very friendly - not stuffy and pretentious like you find at other country club resorts. The food at the Club is very good, and the chef changes the menu frequently so dining never gets old. A pretty casual, laid-back atmosphere with great, challenging golf, tennis courts, an indoor pool and spa and an outdoor pool. There are also hiking trails around the resort.

Outside of the resort you can find canoeing and kayaking on the New River, and wonderful hiking at Stone Mountain State Park, a short drive away. Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Olde Beau is a beautiful, scenic option in the North Carolina mountains.

For my birthday, my husband decided to surprise me with a last-minute trip to this lovely mountain getaway. With a chronic illness in the home, we have to be really cautious due to COVID, so renting a mountain home on this beautiful property with a world-class golf course was ideal. Initially, we reserved another cottage on the property that was overlooking the course. En route, management called to explain there was an issue with that one, but they could relocate us to another. Although initially a little concerned about a change in plans into our trip, they were so courteous and reassuring of equivalent accommodations. We ended up staying in The Mills House, and it was excellent! Spacious, cozy, and spotless! 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, two sitting areas, a spacious kitchen, and two porches in a wooded setting. What a tranquil retreat! The resort also offers smaller villas that have beautiful views and are walking distance to the Clubhouse. When staying on the property, there is an indoor pool and hot tub, which we didn't use but was available. There is also a fitness center that wasn't open due to Governor's orders during the pandemic, but that should be temporary. The Clubhouse dining offered takeout (again due to pandemic). They had a delicious menu with fresh cuisine, and we enjoyed great burgers and fries from the Grille on the patio overlooking the course on our golf days. My sons and husband loved the challenging course; the fairways and greens are in excellent condition. I enjoyed all of the spectacular views while riding with them. Every single staff member we encountered was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The manager Joe West was so gracious about the relocation as well. This was our first trip to Old Beau and the Roaring Gap area as a whole. It will NOT be our last. If we could carve out time to go again this summer, we would! I think we have definitely found a new Blue Ridge favorite!

We had an outing here the last weekend in September. We golfed, rented one of their cottages, and dined at their restaurant.

Golf
=======================
The course was in very nice condition and the elevation changes were quite beautiful. Some of the holes you could say it was even breathtaking. The par 5 17th hole is quite intimidating. The signs say to stay on the cart path at all times. I got about 250 yards down the fairway and forgot the sign. It started raining out and the cart becomes un-steerable when the grass is wet. Couple this with steep drops in the fairway and you get a dangerous situation. Be careful.

Cottages
==================================
Our cottage had 3 bathrooms, 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, and 2 single beds. Also, they brought in a rollaway single as well. The rooms and showers were all very nice and clean. Everyone in our group enjoyed the stay here.

Dining
==================================
We ate about 8:00 PM and the food was excellent. I had the huge breaded pork copy served with spied apples, green beans, and polenta cakes. It was all very good with reasonable prices. Mine was about $16.00 I think. Another popular entree in our group was the grilled scallops over spinach fettucine with alfredo sauce. Three people got this and all raved about it.

We would like to go back sometime as a couples outing, as this was a men only thing. Stone Mountain State Park is only 10 or so miles away and I think it is about 50-60 miles to Boone.

I’ve played OB for more than 15 years. Better bring lots of golf balls if playing OB if you are not use to a mountain course. Its challenging and fun. Makes one a better golfer because of the challenges. You have to use your head and figure out each shot. Once you get to the greens, they are not that difficult. Actually, the 7th green is extremely difficult. Land approach shot on front part of green. Hope to play OB again soon.

Have been reading the not so recent reviews of Olde Beau and wanted to comment. We have been coming here for six years. Always enjoyed it-no longer golfers but must say that the golfing here has changed. We now have a par three course that can be played if you don’t want to tackle the beautiful but challenging back nine. The cart paths have been redone and we have a new golf pro. The Clubhouse and dining room has had an uplift and is excellent. The Club is catering many special events-weddings, wine dinners. The fitness center has been totally redone and the indoor and outdoor swimming pools offer great fun for families. There are lovely rentals available for families that can be seen on the website. Don’t be put off by some of the older reviews as things are looking great at Olde Beau! We come up often and love it. Always welcome visitors.

Where to start? A group of 4 of us were planning a trip to this area and I booked a single night at the Mills House for us. There were several reasons for this. I needed a place with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, we wanted a stop in this area, and wanted to stay close to the Blue Ridge.

First problem. I booked online and thought it was odd that there was no option to input a credit card to hold the reservation. I received a phone call from someone telling me that I didn't put in a credit card. I explained that there was no option for that and gladly offered a card over the phone. She implied heavily that it was my fault, and asked if I was really only staying for one night. Yes, I would be. She was obviously annoyed by that. I had another call asking if it was only one night, and letting me know that we absolutely had to arrive by 4pm. I said that would be a challenge since we'd be traveling and sightseeing all day. I was basically told I didn't have a choice. And I almost canceled the reservation then, but it fit all the criteria, so I (stupidly) kept it.

Fast forward to our day before our arrival. I was contacted by email to ask if I would be arriving by the time the gates close. I said possibly, though somewhat unlikely and asked what the alternative is. After many emails telling me that I would probably not find the house on my own, but finally offering the gate code, we had things straightened out. The keys would be left on the kitchen counter, the door would be unlocked, and we had the gate code. All good.

We arrived to find the code unnecessary since the gates were wide open, then found the house with no problem (though the house does not have a number or a house name plaque, so we had to match it to the photo in its description to make sure it was the right place).

The best part though.....we tried to open the door, only to find it was locked. We tried the other doors, thinking maybe they left a back door open instead, and found all LOCKED. The keys were, indeed, left on the kitchen counter. But all doors were locked, so we had no way in. I started making phone calls. Now, I was told the gates close at 5 (it had changed from the original 4), and we arrived at 5:10. I left messages for the person who made the reservation, the general manager and the general mailbox. Then we drove the entire complex - restaurant was closed, offices were closed, one person using a treadmill in the gym, NO ONE around.

Now we're trying to figure out what to do. Should we leave and find somewhere else? Should be pick the door lock? Call the police so they can call a contact person? We took one more pass at driving around, looking for anyone at all, thinking we could get an emergency, after hours number to call. Luck smiled on us and we found a very nice man getting into his car to go home. No idea who he was (we suspected he was the general manager) but he had my husband go into the locked building with him and gave him the extra keys to the house. Also, our paperwork was sitting on the rental agent's desk, which was handy.

As you can imagine, tensions were running high after a full day of driving and just wanting to relax and go find food, then fall into bed. An hour of wasted time and energy later, we were in the house. Only to find.....there are actually 3 bedrooms and TWO bathrooms, not 3 as advertised. A third bathroom does exist, but is in the basement. And the basement is locked both from inside and outside the house. Had I known this, I would not have booked this place from the beginning, saving us a ton of headaches.

About the actual property - clean, fine overall. There's a water leak inside the master bathroom wall. We were trying to find the source of a constant drip while trying to fall asleep and ended up finding an area of the bathroom wall completely bubbled and wet. Source found.

We left the next morning and I left an email for the rental person, letting her know that we were leaving and all keys were on the counter. I also mentioned that I would be open to any refund she would like to offer after such a debacle of a visit. After all of this and all of the left messages, I have never received a single call or email from anyone. No apology, no 'just checking in', nothing.

What I did receive was an envelope in the mail. I lifted a little, thinking that maybe they were sending me a letter of apology or understanding. Instead, I had a BLANK sheet of computer paper with a tiny credit card receipt inside. Full price. No note.

Absolutely classless and crass. I would never stay here again and will warn anyone traveling to the area to stay clear of the attitude and careless, unprofessional demeanor of the place. We travel very often and rent homes on a regular basis. This was, by far, my absolute worst experience.

Although many of us enjoy the expansive vistas and cool breezes of the Carolina mountains, it's rare to enjoy undulating fairways, with many blind drives.
We experienced Old Beau on a Carolina Golf Assoc. package offer. The weather and conditions were perfect. The entire Carolina Blue Ridge and Lower Appalachians have had a lot of rain this summer. Overall, that's a good thing. Old Beau, set in Wilkes County, Roaring Gap area is well maintained and manicured. 5 tee sets allow any handicap golfer to pick a distance. Blues- 6089,slope-129; Red 4315, slope=118; For experienced women- Green is 5319, slope 134. The mountainous terrain means driving, (don't try walking), up to the landing areas to see what lies ahead. Water often and steep rough are on all holes. So, placement golf is key. As first time players, it was a challenge. (12 & 16 handicaps), Greens are in excellent shape, fairways also, with low spots and standing water. The clubhouse and grill are usual, this is actually a private course; but with the number of players out (few) I imagine a round can be arranged.

Played there on 8/8/2018, Called to make a tee time, and told person taking the call we were coming from a location about 1 1/2 hours away.
We were given a tee time, and upon arrival, determined the course had received about 18 inches of rain in the past two weeks, was still extremely wet, had washouts in several places on the cart path, and the 17th hole was closed. We played since we had come so far, and while the course is certainly nice, it was in less than satisfactory shape to play, and I felt we had been mislead by a less than honest disclosure about course conditions by the person taking our tee time. Be sure to ask about course conditions, because there is considerable damage to be repaired to put the course back in tip-top shape.
