Even if you a not a wine lover, this is a must stop just to take in the history of the vineyard, building and surrounds.
There are a number of things to read and view without drinking, so it’s definitely worth the stop, even if you have kids with you.
There is a fantastic range of wines on offer so take your time and enjoy your flight.

A privilege to experience the special areas of this grand chateau with a dedicated and enthusiastic guide, Alex. Master Winemaker Jeremy was so informative and helpful, providing tastings that are rare and exquisite. Taking time for my first game of crochet after the tastings finished a great morning!

The grounds and buildings were beautiful which prompted us to visit however when we arrived we were told that we were too late to do a tasting which was fair as it was late in the day.
We decided to grab a glass of wine instead and sit outside which was fine except just after we sat down another couple came in and were allowed to do a tasting. Not sure why there was one rule for us and one for them?
We also got the sense the staff wanted us to leave as they were glaring at us and huffing and puffing while we were trying to enjoy our glass outside. Wouldn’t recommend Chateau Tanunda for this experience and we felt the wine was average and overpriced.

That is unfortunate to hear that you didn't enjoy the visit. We are open 10am-5pm daily to ensure we offer a complete experience. A late tasting close to closing time would only be to accommodate a pre-booked tasting that was possibly running late. We do encourage visitors to check the website and book in advance to avoid disappointment.
We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the experience and still hope to have the chance to welcome you back again another time to enjoy the wine-tasting experience that the others are raving about on here.

Caoimin did a wonderful wine tasting for us. He was excellent! The sparkling red wine was spectacular! A good choice for red drinkers.

Jackie was an amazing host to our tasting. The gardens and surrounds are so stunning. It was too rainy for croquet-next time.
The members club is great value-check it out!
Sit down tasting was a nice touch. The history and facilities are impressive. So glad we stopped by.

We did a wine tasting with Alex who had excellent knowledge of the wines and the area. The building itself is amazing with lots of history. We only chose to do a few tastings in the Barossa area due to time restraints, and we were very glad we chose Chateau Tanunda. Shipping wine home was easy & only $15 to Sydney. Most of the wines in the set tasting selection were spot on with our likes, with Alex an extra 1 or 2 as he discovered what we were looking for. Lovely relaxing hour!

Please include Chateau Tanunda on your visit to the Barossa! We popped in and were fortunate to be seated for a tasting, after a wander through the cellar door. Larry was a wonderful host, informative and professional, very friendly.
The wines were incredible, we could have purchased most of them but the Grenache in particular was gorgeous. Make time for a wander through the grounds, it’s very special.

A marvellous building and complex with a very luxe tasting room. Our hostess Sharon was totally engaging and while wine preferences are personal their shiraz hit our mark with solid bulls eyes. The basic tasting fee was more than just value for money. Parking can be confusing - there is a cellar door lot with stairs down to the entry on each end, and also space behind the building on the 'cellar door floor level'. I would call it one of if not the best of the barossa cellar doors. Ticked every box for this wine junky who normally prefers McLaren Vale.

If you’re only going to go to one winery in Barrosa, this is the one! They don’t call it Icon of the Barrosa for nothing. I’ve been to wineries throughout Napa and the central coast in California and in other states. I’d rank Chateau Tanunda right alongside the best of those. The grounds are beautiful and the wines were all very enjoyable. Larry took care of us during our tasting and did an exceptional job. He was personable and full of relevant information. Don’t miss this one!

Wow! An absolute gem of an impromptu visit. We were doing a self guided Barossa Valley tour and saw Chateau Tanunda sign posted. A bit of research told us about their tours and tastings. We couldn’t book on line so took a chance at cellar door and asked for a tour. They could fit us in a couple of hours later so, we explored elsewhere and came back for a thoroughly enjoyable tour, some history and a delicious wine tasting. They could not have been friendlier or more accomodating. Needless to say we left with a couple of bottles purchased at cellar door. A great experience in everyway. 😊

Do you charge more for large groups? If there are 15-20 persons, how much would you charge per person for such a group?

Hi. When we went it was a set price but there was only 3 of us. I am sure you could get a better price if you contacted them. The wine tasting was free for a few wines but the winery is beautiful if you just wanted to wander

I didn't go there then, but most of the wineries in that area were open on Good Friday.
