What an great coastal area. The water is so blue and lovely. The facilities are excellent in the region with clean toilets, barbecues and seating areas and you can even do a lovely coastal walk in the area. The park is great also!

Dampier is a large and mixed port with a large ore loading jetty, a salt berth and two LNG berths. You can't get into the port proper but you can see quite a lot from the outside and along the Esplanade. The landscape is pretty rugged- Martian in appearance and you are advised not to drive at night, dusk or dawn because of the kangaroos. There are some nice spots to swim as have been commented on by other reviewers.

busy port,great walking and tremendous views...amazing place. verey busy with new construction. Esplanade had interesting shopping.

Drove down to Dampier from Karratha what a lovely spot beside the sea. Just right for a swim and a place to chill.

Because Dampier is an iron ore export port, many visitors believe that it will be highly industrialised. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's a little town (about 2,000 people) 16kms away from Karratha.
It is also the gateway to the islands of the Dampier Archipelago - where there are great boating, diving and fishing experiences to have.
In Dampier, there is "The Palms" where locals take down drinks and nibbles for the sunset - great fro everyone, including families.
If you take a drive along the foreshore, you might be lucky enough to see one of the massive iron ore ships being put alongside the wharf by the local Marine Pilot's.
There's the iconic Mermaid Pub and Hotel, made famous by the Red Dog Movie. The Hampton Harbour Yacht and Boat Club is for members only - but another member can sign you in. Or, if you are a member of another yacht club in Australia, you can gain access to the best view in Dampier.
You can have your picture taken with the famous Red Dog statue and the entrance to Dampier and also head up to the Lookout - which looks out over to East Intercourse Island where the salt piles look like white mountains.
Salt is also exported from Dampier.
There is a small caravan park located on the foreshore for the road travellers.
A really lovely and interesting little town.

Travelling from Exmouth to Broome we overnighted in Karratha and took the opportunity to drive out to Dampier to have a look. Well worth the side trip to see this port.
Welcomed at the outset with a statue honouring Red Dor ("The Pilbara Wanderer") there is a loop around town to highlight views or specific aspects.
The lookout is interesting with its view over the harbour to the terminals and information plaques.

We couldn't actually get to the port but could see everything that was happening and what a sight to see. Definitely worth a visit.

Dampier Port is a lovely area and this is where my nephew launches his boat from. There were lots of birds to look at out at sea, the weather being hot and breezy when we visited.
On entering Dampier don’t forget to stop at the Red Dog statue, it’s a great story.

Great place to put the Boat in on an all weather Boat ramp. after to have a nice lunch and a coldie with a great view of the bay and Islands.

We stopped at Dampier Port just over a week ago while doing a day in the peninsula. Nice working port, you can watch the ships and smaller boats coming in all day and look across the bay to the Intercourse Islands which we still find hilariously named because we are mature. I don’t believe those are rampant for that activity but as we didn’t get to the islands we can’t say for sure. Definitely a nice port to walk around, there is the yacht club that you can go to for a meal too that has excellent views as well.
