Wonderful vibrant building. We visited when a summer fete was on and they had really gone to town. The stalls were all through the building, grounds and of such a varied selection there was something for everyone. Music was laid on too.
There is a real sense that this is the beating heart of an adhesive community. It was great to witness what can be done when people pull together.
The building is architecturally magnificent and well worth a visit in its own right.
A trip to Wymondham wouldn't be complete without it.

Very glad we detoured when on the way home from Norwich to visit this one, it really is a wonderful building. The church building dominates the landscape and the most impressive views are had if you take the river walk behind the church.
Inside there are some very impressive features such as the two organs by James Davis and the splendid gilded altar scree.
Also impressive is the memorial to Elisha Ferrers, the last Abbot and later Vicar of Wymondham, the carved medieval font with modern gilded font cover, and I particularly liked the angels, musicians and figures that are carved onto the roof timbers and corbels. One of these is displayed on the ground by the entrance so that you can get a good look at it.
It’s also very peaceful here and you do feel the serenity, something that I thought had been lost at Norwich Cathedral in their quest to make money.

Very impressive place. Warm welcome by the lady on the desk. I just sat and enjoyed the ambience having been here many times.

Beautiful interior, warm and welcoming, with displays, shop, toilets and coffee making facilities. The Abbey is now open every day from 10 - 3 (winter opening)

We went to visit on the Wednesday, but it was closed. For a local landmark I would have thought that it would be open. Then as a Christian Church of the Anglican persuasion I feel that it is an important witness!

Once an abbey belonging to monks, this building also traditionally housed the parish church for Wymondham. Monks and congregation were always trying to best each other. When Henry VIII dissolved the abbeys the townspeople won. The abbey part of this church is mostly a ruin now. Inside it has been transformed into a spiritual space for people of all faiths as well as for Christians. There is a fabulous and enormous gilded altar and reredos by Ninian Comper, the king of 20th century modern baroque altars. Lovely volunteers are on hand several mornings a week to let you in look after you and point out and explain everything. It has the air of a cathedral, but in fact is only a parish church despite the gigantic NOrman pillars, clerestory and great height of the place. Fascinating, wish I had known about it before but glad I have found it now!

If you are visiting Wymondham and have half an hour to spare a walk to the abbey from the effort. The story is intriguing, the architecture is fascinating and the walk is invigorating. Well worth the visit for history buff with interesting information boards for those who like details

Having checked on the website that the Abbey would be open and believed the 11.00 to 1.00 Monday open for private prayer and visitors, we drove 1.5 hours to visit. The main door advised the entrance was round the side. On arrival there was a hand written note saying closed for rehearsal. We were not the only ones staring in disbelief.

Beautiful location, and perfect place for a walk and a pint. It has a nice pub round the corner, and at the lower of the hill a beautiful bridge, with a newly improved section to the river, with a perfect park with many seating and picnic areas with a lovely view of the abbey from them. Makes a perfect walk out, do it often, and the abbey at night looks as spectacular lit up as it does during the day.
